  1. my bad. That's the carbon one, the DUST is the alu GB from Avalanche.
  2. Awesome. The napkin math is 500*R50k = R25m. Obviously not everyone pays, but that is way off R4m (so there must be some funny talk in the village). I'm not sure how much of a market there is for this. It's not too hard to see a budget version with minimal accom/food and provincial roads - and some one will fill that gap if they believe there is a bigger market for this. The pricing for Garden Route Giro seems too high as mentioned higher in this thread. While they obviously got big support from landowners who hosted evenings, I would like to think the route would move each year. Shamwari could be used as final stage again without duplicating much.
  3. I thought so too, reading higher through this thread permission was obtained from the family. But seemingly not from the city. not pointing fingers, just looking at how this happened.
  4. saw that. R30k carbon rims on a R33k bike. kind of defeats the purpose of the run it on a budget bike vaaib, which is what he did at epic with the Signal hardtail in 2019 (I looked it up). BUUUUUUUUUUUUUUT the marketing people will buff that out, and it will sell bikes so all good in the end
  5. https://www.instagram.com/p/DP3I2M_jIvu/?hl=en in unrelated news, I was not aware that Ollie is doing it on this Avalanche Dust. probably a whole bunch of Titans that also cost less than the weeks' entry fee.
  6. ja. agreed. i was wrong above, their event is April 2026 so this is peak selling window for them. The base price seems too much to really get the numbers. will see what transpires. I think you can comment on GRG here. Because this is the Dryland logo, remind you of anything?
  7. @Andreas_187 are you double triple sure you were at the right intersection?? It's bare concrete and high up, can't just wipe that out by mistake.
  8. the business case for this event is enhanced by what appears to be a successful GB, I'm sure they are (both) looking at their spreadsheets for entry numbers and pricing - https://dryland.co.za/garden-route-giro-dryland-introduce-6-stage-gravel-race/ (but maybe a bit of a date overlap in 2026) and if you have to compare to any events that have come before - it builds on what works. From my perspective the original bells and whistles gravel stage race would be this one that was not even on the list - and again I see the market looking at this through new eyes https://dirtysouthevents.co.za/
  9. wow, there was a whole lotta tar today, and a then a p#$%*lap to finish
  10. that's the beergods reacting to them putting on that castle lite piss
  11. the orange windmill finishline is a bit comical. The closest human to the line appears to be the drone operator!
  12. So it was a sponsored entry, nogal? You are a much better dad than me, I would have sent such a heartfelt postcard from Willowmore and then told her that the reception was scatchy.
  13. Bikehub inc has been a little bit quiet here. No media ride for the big cheeses?! What did you guys do to Kev?! This guy with the media pass has been tjopestil, maybe he is kakking off? https://www.instagram.com/aaron.borrill/ speaking of Kev, with DG there, expected to see KevEv too. ok enough stirring now.
  14. Thanks! kind of proves my point if you had to work it into excel though? What is my point? I guess it's that they've deliberately chosen to do it this, splitting everyone into 5yr age gaps means there are races within races. there's another stage race that you just click "all" and you see the whole field.
  15. can't believe I'm still on this! If I click all participants like you mention - I only get all participants in a single category. I want to see the listing where Benky is there in the pros. Show me a screenshot of that and I send you a beer. ok see that now. Challenger cat is not really the race. this is the dice against pidcock section, right? So it's not really the race, and Beers is 60% down in 232nd place. This happened last night anyway, so it's done?
  16. Maybe I'm just being simple, but I can't find a way to see anything but categories. Working in chrome but tried edge too. If I select the "show all" from the drop down I just get the top 5 in each cat. Does every single cat get their own start?
  17. is it just me or is there no way to just list the entire field in the results. everything seems to be in categories. https://racebase.pro/events/gravelburn/?page=results#0_B366FF
  18. is it any good? worthwhile for a SA local to listen to or more overseas focussed? See he had the frenchies on stagfe 1
  19. ja that's kind of why I flagged it. Lots of people buying tik and getting away with it doesn't make it legal. Seeing these things all around now. Fun toy for a kid, accidents waiting to happen. that didn't look like a hydraulic brake at first, but ad does say Shimano 4 piston, which is probably going to be needed to stop this beast. 70cc, surely that requires licence and registration to be on our roads? 10hp - that's like 7500w ebike.
  20. Thank you. I watched this last night and it was well done
  21. AWESOME! love it that we are being seen as a destination for gravel. I don't think Stellenbosch is the best base for gravel riding, but it has some obvious other bonuses! The betty's bay ride is tar (and incredible on Clarence drive). Groenlandberg is hardcore MTB only, but I think you're referring to the viljoen's pass - the "4 passes route" is s tellenbosch classic road ride, about 150km. beyond that, paarl is a much better gravel base, get clicking here but if you're really looking for some fun, I'd be inclined to suggest Greyton as a base. @guidodg will point you in the right directions and then you might not have found this. needs updates but a great resource https://bicyclesouth.co.za/bikepacking-routes/
  22. @sucramuk what happened? where did you go?
  23. That's not a busy road, but the okes travel like diesel is R5/km and the cattle they are about to feed haven't eaten since last week. On a roadbike it's possible, but there's limited shoulder. I'd have some super lumo clothing, maybe a flag that waves and the brightest red flasher you can find. but it would be a lot more fun on the alternative gravel routes of which there are many like this https://bicyclesouth.co.za/2022/01/beerpacking-the-overberg/
  24. Seems like a good enough topic here. with this hillclimb event on saturday, anyone planning on riding the trails and skeef watching from above like so?
  25. wow, buy it here. love the way @dcal put some kiff cable disk brakes to stop this beast https://www.summitbikes.co.za/index.php?id_category=102&controller=category I know it's illegal to use one of these on a public road, but what about selling them? Can the cops just go to this summitbikes shop and confiscate everything?
