  1. With only two slots available to top nations powerhouses like SUI and FRA really do have their chances reduced. It's definitely easier to win an olympic medal than the world champs as there are solid athletes watching from home. Suisse have 5 riders in the top13, and the two going are more likely to switch each other out of contention than work together. In the ladies, Tiffany Keep has been selected along with Candice. I'm not sure how controversial that is, as she doesn't seem to have any UCI ranking points currently. edit: DnD pointed out she is on the road team. my bad! not olympic talk!
  2. In 20 years' time Jonas might look back at this second place(assuming that's where it ends) as a greatest ever performance. I've also had a big accident and the return to normal stuff like walking properly was unreal. It's an incredible comeback, and the level he can be it despite the training deficit is scary exciting for the 2025 rematch.
  3. Really? I wasn't able to watch it. The entire thing seemed like an advert. Maybe he can get a decent gig from this.
  4. The brutish press are wild, he was the superstar when the British cycling became a thing. Yt algorithm put me onto the Move podcast with Lance and George, it looks like they have flown Wiggo out to Colorado for the tour to help him out. That's quite a decent .... move. (Still unwatchable)
  5. He stopped ski jumping as a junior and has been a pro rider since 2013. As in riding bikes is his job. https://www.procyclingstats.com/rider/primoz-roglic/statistics/overview 661 race days.
  6. um. ja you are not wrong. I could be making it up but I remember someone saying that insurance companies are starting to check social media/strava/race results etc. and putting two and two together when people tell porkies to get a claim. methinks biketheft/chopshops is a much bigger issue for insurance premiums.
  7. pretty sure these have come out while the thread was hibernating https://www.on-lynecomponents.com/collections/grips
  8. it's all relative!!!
  9. Agreed. Also the brakes are totally useless on them for tiny hands so I wouldn't make that a criteria when deciding between options.
  10. These things were not "free". Despite not having a direct transaction, you paid money in order to get them. The free market will decide if they have value. I have been on clicktochat for a few years now, if they have adverts I haven't noticed them. I think it's a WA thing but you can't add random people to groups, if the other one enables this then i'll switch.
  11. looking at my fantasy picks, I don't really think anyone higher than 20th will be allowed rope to go more than 3min up the road. UAE + JV+ QS have the firepower to reel anyone in, it's one thing pg protecting yellow but the other teams like their podium slots too. That goes down to Ben Healy at 7:15. some heavy hitters (if not just recently) further down the GC rankings, all 15mins plus out SYates, Pid, Maincheese, Carapaz, Kelderman, Bardet, Barguil, Gaudu, even someone like Lutsenko was TDF GC top10 a few years agois an hour back. if EF+Jayco+Astana+DSM get smart they could put thse guys far enough up the road to take it from the break.
  12. Never seen it before, but the green tyre is clearly much bigger. sorry if stating the obvious. Just to allay my potential confusion, there are three main dimensions here. *tyre width (normally in inches, but gravel tyres mostly be in mm) *internal rim widths section (the width of the metal where the tyre fits in) *rim profile. the distance from the tyre to the spokes, bigger = "more aero" because spokes cut the wind. You could have say 35mm for all of these three dimensions. do I have this correct? is that correct?
  13. Maincheese is down in 29th, 18mins back. https://www.procyclingstats.com/rider/louis-meintjes Looking at his season he hasn't really pushed top10 GC in the one week races either. Bini in green must take a lot of heat off him, but as the GC guy they surely expect more from him. Maybe he has been riding conservatively and today is the day.
  14. That's exactly what he did*, which is why I queried the validity of it when it was brought in here. but hey, it's all about clicks and here we all talking about it. *I haven't actually listened to uniballer's podcast, just quoting what i read online.
  15. Close the thread!! People complaining should go play on gumtree or marketplace for a week as detention. I remember you basically giving stuff away by the time the plane was coming.
  16. DL method came from a paper published in 1998. They claimed to have got the idea from the 22 off 1 cricket final in 1992*. plagiarist lying twats! A Rondebosch schoolboy did a maths project on the issue in 1992, his teacher escalated it to the higher powers. Dr. Ali Bacher got it used for the B&H night cricket in the next season. It had it's limitations (he was std8, not a p.hd in statistics!) but he never got the full credit for the idea. I must go alter their wikipedia page in revenge now. ps. according to DLS we still would have lost that game by 2 runs!
  17. Because people like you can't read and/or have a very short memory.
  18. My adventure started with an Avalanche Sirocco from Olympic Cycles, circa 1995. They must have been a very new brand then, chro-mo all the way baby. hope the b@stard that stole it 4 years later got some fun out of it.
  19. Saw that. is this an actual thing you can make such a definitive scientific call on? I've never looked at calories but figured it's a thumbsuck at best, happy to be schooled here by those in the know https://www.msn.com/en-gb/cars/news/pogacar-s-calorie-consumption-compared-to-the-competition-raises-eyebrows-if-you-can-ride-so-economically/ar-BB1psuVY#:~:text=Bruyneel%3A "Pogacar is still riding,he moves through the peloton.
  20. Agreed, but they race very differently. Pog actually lost over a minute to Jonas on Stage 5 2023, after racing balls to the wall since day 1 picking up sprint bonus seconds. This tour is better poised on the rest day than when Pog blew all away up the Galibier. Pog races flatbar all out to the max. He has the Giro in his legs, Let's not forget that winning these two together is supposed to be even more unlikely than when this was written. https://velo.outsideonline.com/road/road-racing/the-giro-tour-double-cyclings-elusive-feat/ Pog has pushed where he can, but only has a 33sec gap to Remco so I suspect he will continue to race fullgas in week2. Roglic has been quite subdued, but there he sits just 1:36 behind. Jonas has been on the defensive the whole time, letting others burn their matches. Maybe it's strategy maybe it's the level he is at. If Pog can keep this up from 3 weeks then he will walk to yellow. But one has to wonder whether the juice is worth the squeeze and the ones chasing him seem to be a lot more calculating in their efforts.
  21. [this thread is about the olympic MTB and only that, other Olympic talk elsewhere please] Team SA came away with just 3 medals in Tokyo. 2 for Tatjana Schoenmaker (now Smith if you've looked through the teamsheet and wonder where she has gone) and fluke in the surfing in lumpy japan swell. We might have a few fluke performances, but have very few athletes ranked in the top5 of their sports to have realistic medal chances. EXCEPT. Cycling. No disrespect to the other cyclists there, but it is all about our two MTB athletes who are currently on HOT streaks. (AMP is there, but it's a bit of a classics looking course). Ladies. Sunday 28th of July - 14:10pm. Candice Lill went to London 2012 as a promising youngster, but this season her results have been phenomenal. 2nd in Epic seems to have followed on the same result in Marathon worlds last year. Privateer status at XCO and she has cracked into the top tier somehow. She did the test event last september and came 26th. I find this post pinned on her Instagram from the beginning of the year quite incredible in retrospectively looking at where her rise has come from. https://www.instagram.com/p/C240S27qtzJ/ Men. Monday 29th of July - 14:10pm Alan Hatherley has been at the pointy end for a few years without really consistently being on the podium. Until this year, he just won his first XCO this past weekend in france. MvDP is not there, Pidcock is at the TdF as a GC/stage hunter. Nino is a ballie. The french armada are all good but all of the place. He has a solid shot at a podium if not overall gold if everything falls into place. he did the test event last september and came 12th. wonder if maybe it's the ridiculous 'tache? https://www.instagram.com/p/C9IROdetSU0/?img_index=1 Here's the course preview from last year False hope? What say you all?
  22. a quiet valley in the southern cederberg
  23. I know it's all pog vs rog vs remco vs jonas vs juan (the PRRJJ show), but surely one of the two Stefans should take this? They are both well down on GC so I am guessing have been keeping powder dry this week in anticipation for today.
  24. Looks like a good price, you might get more from someone who has gone cheap before. Decent upgrades on that.
  25. If you feel strongly enough about this, then email him directly about what was offered and what has been delivered. I expected the discount to be larger, you might get some joy and it's win win for both parties. I know it seems a bit redundant to mention this again, but the decision to postpone came from Disaster management. Cancelling the sunday seemed a bit soft from my side, we still rode the 100km route on the sunday. That was totally fine weather wise but on the bigger roads. I'm not going this year, mainly because I forgot I had already entered a trail run on the saturday!
