  1. Was a cool morning! Trails are top class, fun to have a group ride with all the banter along the way. For those from far away, you can actually stay on the farm - test drove this one weekend and felt like we owned the place! https://www.muratie.co.za/visit/accommodation/
  2. He has not confirmed participation at the Argus 2026 yet - you have your chance still!
  3. https://www.facebook.com/dirtopia/posts/pfbid02HFgq8GAea1UiaeddCuJNYuFeUY3Ma2yKcnY8EfpneG547hTFqogYVtxU8ZyodT5el A TRAIL DAY OF REMEMBRANCE – HONOURING MEURANT & JP Following the heartbreaking loss of Meurant Botha and his close friend JP van Zyl, the Muratie Trails Marathon scheduled for 5 October will not take place. Instead, we’re opening the weekend of 4–5 October at the Dirtopia Trail Centre as a Trail Celebration Weekend, and we invite all mountain bikers, runners, and hikers to join us for a chance to enjoy the outdoors and remember two passionate trail lovers who shaped the sport and the places we love. Permits as usual: R100 MTBers R75 for hikers / trail runners Donations welcome toward trail maintenance & building Entrants of the original event have been contacted regarding refunds or the option to donate. Donations will go towards permanently opening the last piece of singletrack Meurant built, with signage in his honour. At the same time, we want people to know that their support will keep our trail team – Clinton and the rest of the maintenance crew – going strong. **MTB guided ride will depart 8.30am. More on this later! #RideForMeurant #RideForJP #TrailLegacy #Run4trails #TrailDay #hiking
  4. Hail mary here. my free hub went over the weekend, opened up to find a broken pawl, (found a new one). BUT, the axle thread on the drive side is cracked. Have gone to LBS to find if they can order a spare from SRAM, but then whilst I wait on that wondered now if someone has something similar from a busted wheelset. Hub is SRAM MTH 746 - wheelset is sun ringle inferno23. Off a RM vertex 2013. (non boost) TA12x148 only the axle is moertoe (although i do wonder how long it's been like this!!)
  5. https://rushsports.co.za/blogs/news/sram-appoints-rush-sports-as-an-authorized-distribution-partner i might have missed this. doesn;t say exclusive so is CCS still a distributer? https://www.capecycles.co.za/sram-chain-links-cables-housing-amp-small-parts/ (i have a hard to find hub part to find)
  6. But pidcock is there. That will bring eyeballs. Wonder if he's sa linked team sponsor has anything with this?
  7. @Jaco Steyn I think we've gone far enough down this road already - if it would be a dealbreaker you can come stay with me in Fish hoek for a few days - payment would be in biltong.
  8. Happy to engage since I put it out there. Love the way you tell me to not assume other people's perspectives and then proceed to do the same for my own wants and desires! The point of affordability comes up every frikken year - (even when they didn't increase the entry fee), and the response might seem like total mansplaining, but it's the same every year. Apologies for the repetition, but Jaco finally got it - it's not the entry fee that's expensive - it's the entire experience (and how you do it). There were years (mid 2000s/early 10s) when the Gauteng contingent at a sold out Argus was equal to WC - that's buying power, the want to travel to do this race AND - kulula/1time/mango somehow offering return flights cheap cheap if you were smart. Those days are gone and people are voting with their wallets (and telling us about it here). anywhooo, I have flown to do that fun run from pmb<=>durbs for the past two years. Once with the wife as supporter, this year solo. You can do that on the ridiculous cheap or 5star (even get a travel company to do everything for you). When it is a red date calendar event lined up months in advance it becomes an item of the whole experience, but hey maybe you know more than me anyway. ps. all this talk and I actually haven't entered yet!
  9. SO.. any hubbers on the starting line? fess up!
  10. He just turned 23. Anything can happen from here.
  11. fair enough he got caught with 10km to go here and lost in a photo finish. https://www.procyclingstats.com/race/amstel-gold-race/2025/result/result

  13. wow this is incredible!
  14. um Nils has been quite busy purging! @Woodstock Cycleworks
  15. One could say Pog won so tactics were spot on. But still blows my mind that attacking the peleton at 104km is not even questioned anymore. Surely there are higher percentage places to go off the front? He still had plenty of teammates around too. Sure it was the main hill, and the subsequent Mur he dropped the one coleader too. with the ease he seemingly dropped Remco, he could have done the same 30km out too on one of those nasty ramps. Seems like one of these long range attacks by Pog is eventually going to come a cropper when a well paced chase mows him down, but maybe I am just a couch warrior who doesn't know his place?
  16. This why this line of thinking is so much fun to pick apart! So because of your inflexible no self-catering rule, holidays are too expensive. Therefore you don't go on many holidays. Therefore you stay at home more and your hardworking wife does more cooking anyway. She can't win! Look I get your point, but your thinking is so obviously flawed. This is not to jump on your specifically, but you're the one juggling this chestnut so it's you in the cross-hairs currently, don't take it personally! The Argus is not too expensive! It's less than R1000, and a lot of that money goes to charities! What you spend beyond that is up to you, not the Argus cycle people. You can do it on the cheap, you can splash out and bells and whistle the crap out of it - that's your call. If it's Cape Town or local travel that has got unaffordable then don't blame the race for it - that's a universal thing. I've done 30ish Argus and last year the costs basically doubled for me, but will enter again to do it on tandem with laaitie for sure!
  17. I love these type of comments. You don't spend money on food when you're at home?! I can save you the expo expenses with a hot tip - the guy who has a gun to your head making you buy stuff is not there on the first morning.
  18. You missing a decimal point there captain, but point is solid. We're ranked 31st on the UCI log, between Kazakstan and Russia (sure there is a cold war joke there!). If South Africa was an individual, we'd be ranked 55th in the world, between Jan Christen and Tim Wellens. UAE actually has 7 individuals with more UCI points than our entire country. We're 2nd on the continent, but Bini has more than us on his own too. Our highest ranking rider is currently Stefan de Bod, who is 324th in the world with 273 points.
  19. PPA actually used to have a 90km road race start/finish from Philadelphia, but this is the 90s we're talking about! The R27 has got a LOT better since they put the average speed trap cameras up, but you see very few cyclists. I probably ride it once a year and I suggest very bright clothing as there is a lot of yellow lane driving. You could hook through Darling but the R307/Mamre rd has very limited shoulder in places.
  20. I went the ombud route for a claim on a vibrocrete wall that was leaning over. An independant guy cleared them with info that I disputed (he did mention that my best move would be to push the wall over, and then it becomes an incident!!!). but it was a decent process, you seem to have some decent ammo and they might cave very quickly
  21. Well offering a product you can't deliver when you know you're on the verge of being liquidated.... there's experts on where this lies between trying to rescue the business and simple fraud The accountability transfers to the liquidators. stand in line.
  22. What race did he do? I did the Voet last weekend - really does live up to the tagline of "toughest race with the warmest heart". I remember it as a buckelist type race in the 90s when my dad did a bit of road running, so stoked it is still around. 360 odd starters and country feel. Tried to hold back and have some gas for the final stretch on the tar but probably just didn't have miles in the legs. finished in 4:32 - this race has a 6hr cut-off! photog (she was from oakpics) got some impressive shots https://www.facebook.com/media/set?vanity=voetvanafrika&set=a.1584153536363410
  23. just going to download this and repost it here incase it disappears Request for credentials 24 April 2025.pdf so there's no event company yet. project lead would have been appointed 2 months ago 3years is still plenty of time, BUT no mention of specifically of TMNP or Sanparks in that document.
  24. Patience is the name of a Brit drama series! Little birdie told me that Sanparks were blissfully unaware when this was announced. Can't confirm or deny but this is very suspicious. edit: press release says details in 6 months. It has now been 25 months! edit edit: i see this was posted in April, things are seemingly happening - the long term stuff for TMNP must be behind the scenes - https://www.cyclingsa.com/request-for-credentials-rfc
