  1. I can imagine the wankers in the horse riding scene make the fully kitted sp3s fan boys look like teenagers at their first disco!
  2. I'm pretty sure those Virginia tech ratings will show very little correlation between price and helmet safety. Obviously don't go for the R200 Raleigh from Makro, but I think the R1.5k range is probably the sweetspot. Anything more and you're paying for advertising and not safety
  3. there are loads of people on the mountain everyday. platteklip and lionshead are thronging with people. So they will be 'safe'. But that depends on your definition of safe though, if they have been following kneejerk news, they will just not enjoy their hike. An experienced guide will not kung-fu chicken wrap any muggers, they will hopefully have an idea on recent hotspots and not send their guests into any areas deemed more dangerous than normal.
  4. https://www.rookiesports.co.za/ I have bought some stuff from these guys. seems to fit the quality:price sweetspot quite well. @RookieSports.co.za chip in with your experience!
  5. dual control = walk away walk away
  6. I know you've done the maths, but 196km new to used, R12k-R5k5 = R6k5 ~R33/km. Smiles: priceless this is a bargain
  7. this looks quite cool. wish you all the best
  8. Early bird pricing until 31 May: R1250 - 100 Miler Late pricing 15 November to 30 November: R1850 - 100 Miler I approve of this level of slacker tax.
  9. I see no reason why TP can't win as much as the other TP, it just won't all be on the road. His road palmares are not bad for a 25yr old. He is a unique rider that needs unique handling, whether he will get that at Q36.5 time will tell. Obviously he will not be a 3week GC stage racer, that question has been truly answered on the Ineos dime so Q36.5 better not waste anything further on it. Another quite pertinent aspect as that he has been at Ineos in a time of turmoil for the team, moving to a smaller outfit with an upward trajectory was probably the break he needed.
  10. Awesome. Azub look the business!
  11. I suppose it depends on how you value your own time. Is it worth 10 emails back and forth over a fortnight to save R500 on a R3k item? If you're a student, Hell YEAH!
  12. speaking of half-wheelers. this is one is ready to go to its next home! https://bikehub.co.za/classifieds/item/kids-bikes/768915/giant-half-wheeler
  13. you misunderstand what the L in LBS stands for!
  14. when this place started, I thought it a weird location for a shop with a large focus on their online offering. Through work a while back I spent an extended time in Malmesbury, I even did that lekker 60km+ mtb ride that went all the way up the Paardeberg whilst there. BUT I never thought this place was lacking a big bike shop. A lot of their big suppliers are in CT, and others even further afield. How will they compete with the extra logistic hurdle baked into their offering? It will either have to be more expensive or less convenient (or both). but further down the line, it appears to be part of the business strategy. They have long outlived my expectations, so well done to them. They must be doing something right to retain frustrated customers.
  15. So. Clearly lots of people think this is the next big thing. Leverage the MTB stage race market which is full of people who have done it all. Throw in some provincial roads which does away with a lot of the pesky stuff like land permission and single track to build/maintain, (but keep it pricey so the riff raff don't get in the way). Skepticism aside https://bikehub.co.za/news/garden-route-giro-announced-a-six-day-gravel-stage-race/ https://themunga.com/munga-tkg/ what next, will the OG https://www.instagram.com/dirtysouthgravelrace/?hl=en pay for their webhosting before announcing their reply? so is this a fad like um, Fatbikes, or a thing like, uhm Gravel bikes?

I don't think so. This is what it says in the latest edition of "the Rules" (posted jan 2023). Tough timing for Drikus, but that is life but going back to the BTC comment, how did that one work out? Doing some quick sums on what the internet says about it after the fact. The 2019 winners (all three categories) got 0.25BTC. (I think because they get a 50% share of a 3rd of a 1.5BTC, weird maths description). SO, if they kept this then their 2019 prize is now worth R1.7m Assuming it was actual BTC. it was "held in an account", so not sure if anyone still has their money in that account.

If you think F1 is not an actual sport, then move on to WWE for the real fun. penalty should be "double the time he gained" by using the shortcut. if that is the outcome then fair by me.
  18. It seems like they have got this wrong again. You can't build another Strava easily, they should do everything to keep themselves as the only game in town for fitness data. So what is 3rd party apps are leaning on their systems and making decent money, start offering their functionality and do it better.
  19. cool idea. but I'm not sure how accurate you could be with it? I would consider loading the bottle as a big ass pepper spray/smoke bomb delivery device.
  20. I have one of these, i got it for the same reasons this guy mentioned too. I also had the issue of valve core coming out sometimes after inflating. To prevent this, i put a bit of spit on the core before pumping, the hose doesn;t grip it then when unscrewing. simple.
  21. The only way this makes sense if as reported earlier it is a group of 4x memberships, (which can't be bought individually). Which also doesn't make sense. The other factor is they are hosting 2.5 stages of the Cape Epic 2025 including the finish. Keep the riff raff out before the C suite come in end of march
  22. https://clayad.co.za/products/mtb-voucher-day-pass?pr_prod_strat=e5_desc&pr_rec_id=a4c141a87&pr_rec_pid=8652779913431&pr_ref_pid=8457544368343&pr_seq=uniform R250 a pop. but more than 6 times then you need to sign up for membership. Is this some tax fiddle or a BEE tender type thing where it's basically money laundering?
  23. not sure if this has been celebrated much but pretty sure interals.icu was beta tested here by @davidtinker edit: yes here it is
  24. It's well above inflation, but there are other drivers behind what goes into it. https://www.inflationtool.com/south-african-rand/2015-to-present-value As I always say, it is a charity event after all.
  25. for those looking at the cost of the event, I found this list I posted 2 years ago and updated it 2025 895 5% 2024 850 13% 2023 750 15% 2022 650 9% 2021 595 8% 2020 550 2% 2019 540 6% 2018 510 9% 2017 470 0% 2016 470 9% 2015 430 plus one. my kids loved that.
