  1. so rad. thanks for sharing.
  2. why do you say that? pretty sure this is the first instance of a racing company liquidating from other business arms
  3. um ok. I didn't say it was a foolproof plan. When there is "bureaucracy" loopholes will be pushed. Want to smoke weed legally which you're not allowed to buy, you join a cannabis "club" where your membership shares give you ownership to the club grown ganja (or something like that). but ja, all speculation. definitely not, but don't give him ideas.
  4. Don't mind me jumping into a handbag flinging contest, but it's pretty well known that counting the last gram on tyres means actually weighing the specific one you have in hand, and NOT going to the spec sheet. The variation between claimed weight and actual is up to 5% at times (and normally heavier).
  5. @Fabian46 send him a DM here
  6. 5000 people paid their bucks, optimistic (in hindsight). Here is the story from Big Steve himself. https://www.facebook.com/Steve.Hofmeyr/posts/pfbid02EZcLZiLt2Z1v2xYTvviwbejAZmu6sRqK4pxcwpJMHJF6qyaPykAiE46kp4X4J6W4l
  7. bizarrely I'm doing the Voet van Afrika marathon in a dorpie south west on the same day. I've actually ridden my gravel bike from a bredasdorp breakfast to a greyton pub lunch before.
  8. Well you could still get some cents in the rand as part of the liquidation process! Sometimes you enter and see that extra checkbox with event insurance, I always ignore it but will think twice again in future if it's not that hefty. Would be interesting to see how much the creditors are in cycling entry fees alone. Clearly these were profitable events, so have been dragged down by the issues in the musiekbedryf. Why these two weren't separated is a bit ridiculous, but hey this is someone operating a multimillion rand business with a gmail account so let's not be too surprised.
  9. one way, no entry, cul de sac, yield, 40km/h. they're all relevant!
  10. between writing the Joshua Tree album, recording the JoshuaTree album and the tour and now the new songs? ja it's a stuff up. you need to look around to find things. https://racepass.com/za/cycling-events/mountain-bike https://www.entryninja.com/events?activities=cycling&provinces=kzn
  11. https://bikepacking.com/bikes/2025-silk-road-mountain-race-rigs-part-one/ @dave303e you owe us some stories!
  12. I see @Gravalist hasn't popped in since march, but figured this is the last post. The subscription thing is a way to get around the event=liability issue, not sure if it actually works though. I'm keeping an eye out here to see what happens next. I don't think the actual tracking is even an issue since they don't seem to even publicly post the link to the tracking page (try find the burra500 tracking link!). so @Gert van Wyk7 what's your next move?
  13. @dave303e how to tell people you did #Silkroad without telling people you did #Silkroad(please tell us more on another thread)! I don't think gravalist was trying to recreate this, if anything more like Tour divide - (but that doesn't even have an entry fee).
  14. @mynameisluka do you live on the 2nd floor? how do you still have your christmas bonus? how old are you? I'm leaning towards a decent HT. buy 2nd hand, sell 2nd hand as you are exploring here.
  15. https://sedgefield500-2023.maprogress.com/ 18 people at this one. sort of high point for this series, maybe too many events on. Costs? well it depends on how much "support" there was, and the tracking doesn't come for free. Unsupported races are a complicated grey area. You can charge a packet and load in hype accordingly, but you're not getting road permission so it's a shaky ground if something goes wrong. My guess is that this became an issue, otherwise this event would have been held and the rest cancelled. maybe I'm shooting in the dark. I don't blame them for trying
  16. I'm on the mailing list. always thought there was a secret whatsapp group I would only get access to after doing an event. oh well, still keen to go exploring sometime - they might well still fit the bill
  17. damn. That is really swak. no posts on the IG either, so would be a *** way to find out. https://www.instagram.com/gravalist/ I was looking at doing one of these in the near future. My own fault for sitting on the fence (well putting time into another sport). The business model was always quite odd to me (it's not really a business, is it?).
  18. The road running scene is bursting, (from my view in the Wcape). There's a mix of club run events with volunteers and events companies with paid staff and profit motives (and some hybrid). Many races are getting sold out in advance, as they hit capacity on permitting. For instance the gun run next weekend has 8000 people just for the 21km @R300 and 6500 for the 10km @R220. Both sold out. This is managed by a pro events company for years, and has solid sponsors. Road cycling is just not that easy to pull off, otherwise we'd see more players here. Clubs organising their own events/charity organisations seem to have mostly disappeared.
  19. I did puffer trail run on saturday, apparently first people allowed that part of silvermine. The road near noordhoek peak/fire lookout has taken some serious shots. I would be very surprised to see them allowing mtbs on that. Wapad is also quite rof near the bottom. Nothing a mtb can't handle but dongas are growing.
  20. Fair enough, this is actually a separate company to the cycling one. Registered in feb this year. I'm going to guess it was built/licensed by this company https://www.kaarkies.co.za/ as they look identical. It's registered to an address in 3 Anchor bay, (but that may still be the previous owner). there are actually two cycling companies, both registered in 2011. one with an address in val de vie, the other across the road in another estate This is all public information from the company register (cipc) database. Gives me the impression that maybe the concert company could go bust and the cycling events keep going unhindered.
  21. firstly - Secondly, you might be right but using anecdote to prove your own point. People will say you shouldn't cycle on the peninsula because there are so many incidents there. BUT, it's one of the most popular cycling routes so obviously the numbers will be higher. I wish this could be updated better, and then we'd have some real data to work with. https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/viewer?mid=10tzB6FghNBHk7dK1SJSG53q6lYk&ll=-29.97090038368146%2C24.93709679999995&z=6
  22. Juan, Why are you so unpredictable? (if you know, you know). The rumours will start flying, but Ineos should jump on this one if they really want a GC winner here is a potential on a platter.
  23. You're honestly scared of the southern suburbs because of the incredible rate of bike jackings? Would love to hear the other reasons (there are places stocking Joey's so you can tick that one of your list).
  24. is this you then? https://www.takealot.com/seller/just-elevate?sellers=29876077 framebags - where to start? https://www.cycletouring.co.za/product-category/touring-bikepacking/frame/
  25. According to who? From what I could see on bizportal, there is only one company. common business practice to split out your various businesses so one lemon doesn't take them all down together.
