  1. I would love a group in the arvies - can be on the bike by 4:30
  2. So this patch would have to be done really early then and maybe with a vehicle behind us (know some dudes on motorbikes).
  3. Thanks Robo. Will look this route up.
  4. Haha Joe thanks but thats extra weight. Gonna do this on the roadie bike not the tourer this time.
  5. Hi all, I have my next crazy idea that I want to do. I want to cycle from JHB to Hoedspruit in 3 days. My only problem is that I need a route from JHB to Belfast / Dullstroom that doesnt go on the highway. Any ideas? From Belfast on its rolling pain to Origstad then a pass then flat from the bottom of Strydom Pass. From Hoedspruit, I am hoping to have a change of bike (road to mtb) and ride into the conservancy I want to visit. My theory: been going to the reserve since a kid and well, would be cool to cycle there. Thanks
  6. The dating thread was classic!! Those were good times. Was a good bunch.
  7. The timing system sucked. I dropped down to the 40km at registration and the results said I did a 70km. So I queried it, and they adjusted it. Only to have my time now 30mins off my heartrate monitor (which I started 1min before the start). Major fail thats making me doubt if I want to rather just go back to being a fulltime roadie cause they at least have proper timing systems.
  8. I rode an Oakland for a few years and know a few others who started with this bike. Great starter bike and is bomb proof.
  9. That is cool! Unlike mr pea shooter. I think his actions for his first win was uncool but I am sure there were words in the peleton the next day and I am sure he will be sorted out for that. Yesterday's win was cool and his antics crossing the line add a bit of humour. Think this youngster will add some comedy if he isnt doping.
  10. Thanks Scotty
  11. Does anyone know if the track is open this sunday? I didnt get the mail this week
  12. Did they send a mail last week? I didnt get it. Riding there with a newbie cyclist tomorrow. (Is gonna be entertaining.)
  13. So, I had coxsakkie 12 or 13 years ago and since then I have suffered chronic fatigue. This year it got really bad and the doc checked my adrenals - turns out theyre a bit messed. Feeling so frustrated cause I am eating properly, taking all my vitamins and stuff and more vitamin b and immune boosters than the average human yet I keep getting sick and tired. I did a tour in April, landed up with pneumonia, then got slammed with the usual exhaustion, then just get right and start training again and yesterday get slammed with a throat infection. This is my dilemma - go to doc and get more vit b jabs and maybe another round of antibiotics or stick it out, get slammed by this thing and hope my immune system kicks in. Or do I give up on this stupid thing and see a homeopath or another doc? Feeling tired of getting sick. I want to train!!! I want to ride my bicycle. Rant over.
  14. I have 2 pairs of velotex red and LOVE them. I also have Assos and find them fairly similar. I love mine and the next pair of shorts I get will also be Velotex red.
  15. I used the sport every night before going to bed on a recent tour I did and kept a bottle next to my bed in case I woke up. I was like a machine for the trip despite being unfit. I now use 1 sachet of sport or normal (whichever is around) a week. And will keep using it post hard ride. Honestly, like th sport as it doesnt taste as gross and is actually designed (I would think) for sports people like us and not just for jippo guts.
  16. I am so there! Will be fun.
  17. Look at the Saris Bones - have seen them and they look cool
  18. Thanks Pusher. I am lusting the Thelma 3. Its a stunning looking rack and is serious value for money. Just got to see what is avail on the budget section of my cc. As far as I know the Bosal ones you need the base plate as it has an attachment that fits behind - but I stand to be corrected as this is what my research yesterday showed. Just wish there was one of the hubbers who had one who could gimme an opinion.
  19. Thanks Kevin. My towbar doesnt have a base plate (its one of those ones you can remove), so Bosal ones are not an option
  20. I am looking at getting a new towbar mounted bike rack and have seen these 2 makes are affordable. Any experience with either brand? Any recommendations?
  21. A popcorn topic. We are never gonna agree. How about this: dont walk your dog. Rather take your bike and ride with your dog. My opinion (and I ride the delta/spruit area a lot more than I walk K there) is that dogs have the right of way.
  22. If its anything like last year, we clocked just short of 100km on day 2 and a mother load of climbing. Was a fun day.
  23. Thanks for the read. So glad my bike is being freighted to the Cape and back. Flying Kulula to George and Mango back. Flown Kulula loads and never had a problem with service or anything. Kinda like flying with them. If you want full of nonsense, the Shosholoza Meyl but thats a different topic for another day. I so agree on fattys - was once on a flight with my boet and his wife. She needed an extra seat. I am not saying I was a think chicky then (I was 5kg over racing weight) but um.... ja... the lard was overflowing. Then because she needed tents she needed a bigger case. I am pro fatties paying extra after that.
  24. Hey fellow tourers. My tour sets off on 2 April from George. We will be heading up Montagu Pass, and to Cape Town via Route 62. If there are any hubbers along that route, we would love to meet you - feel free to join us for a pedal. Otherwise, follow us on twitter: @GSSTourers
