  1. I see my unit is on its way. Reception has been notified to contact me as soon as it comes. Bonus for me, my window looks out on the parking lot so I may just see the truck coming in if I am not in a meeting..... My guess is it will be here by 2pm.
  2. Ok, I also just confirmed with the courier: I should have mine tomorrow. Dome to Dome is gonna be so much more fun with this toy.
  3. I also got my tracking number. So hope we get it tomorrow as I am not in the office on Friday. Yippeeeeeee...............
  4. Is this that really cool store in Morningside Shopping Centre? I love the bikes in there but have never been inside. Think that needs to change next week. Maybe they can give me ideas (and sell me one or 2 things) for a very unusual project I am busy with.

Slowbee... in town there are plenty animals. Just dont get a flat there cause they may eat you. They are family of the rat but are MUCH bigger.
  6. Me too! Would be brilliant to have it for Dome2Dome. So missed it on Saturday on my ride.
  7. This waiting is killing me!! I was hoping to have it before my 1st race in over a year but alas, hopefully before Dome2Dome.....
  8. Johan from Yellow Saddle. Wouldnt trust anyone else with a wheel - its his specialist. Its kinda like taking a broken arm to a GP to get fixed if you go to a store or taking your arm to an orthopaedic if you take it to Johan. Imho, avoid Linden - check the linden thread and you will understand.
  9. Joe: just sign up to Groupon. Then you will get the emails. Otherwise visit Groupon every day until it comes on again.
  10. I heard the same thing.... cant wait. Already told reception to call me as soon as anything comes for me.
  11. The one advertised is the Bryton Rider 35T. According to Bryton's online store, this is the one that is " Bundled with Candence Sensor and Heart Rate Monitor". Cant wait to get mine! Had a fight with my current one on Saturday.
  12. Thanks Getting the bryton package but still want my bossy suunto m5 to scream at me when I am not training. And I like their interface. so basically, I will be using the suunto to track total training (gym, idt, running, cycling) and the bryton to analyse my roadie and mtb rides. Just debating if I am going to add the cadence monitor to the roadie bike (already have a cateye one on for idt) of if I am going to pick one of the mtbs and put it on there.
  13. All the best to all of you riding!! (I am very jealous - had to pull out for medical reasons a few months ago. What grates me now is that I am at possibly my fittest ever now (just need a bit of base though).) Have fun and ride safe.
  14. Think they ship it to you so you dont have to worry.
  15. I also orded one. Despite having an awesome Suunto M5, Endomondo on my bb, and an i-gotU, I justified getting this based on all the features and the price. Plus, I am on a mega training spree and the extra data will help me analyse my weaknesses and strengths and of course my progression. Does anyone know if the Bryton will work with my Suunto HR strap (think its Ant + cause it works at the gym)? Be nice to have my watch + bryton recording hr. Yes, I like to analyse things to death.
  16. Dumb question: is there a map with all the trails? I have ridden there a few times but would love a map of the trails.
  17. Until they have Road Rangers or TB marshalling, I will sit it out. Year before last I had a scary incident with a kid trying to push me off my bike so unless there are marshalls doing route patrols like at Fast One etc, I am not coming near that race.
  18. +1 on JB - he is the only person for wheel builds. If you have any doubts, bash your head against a wheel / wall and rethink.
  19. How does this compare to the Tacx Fortius System?
  20. Always a pleasure to help a fellow tourer. I hadnt heard of them but their products look quite good. Just contact them and ask how the bags attach because that is going to be your enemy. I do not see an issue with using day packs provided you work a way to connect everything easily (I used toe clips). My biggest gripe was adding the stuff on the top (sleeping bags etc) but got it right eventually. It was the cheapest way and it was cool cause I could pick bags I liked (just ensure it has seriously strong straps and a top handle. Maybe get a mechanically inclined person to create a rigging system for you. And, look at a duffel bag for the top stuff (so for your sleeping bag and tent etc) but just make sure you strap it down WELL! Oh and make a plan to waterproof your stuff if you are going this route. Cape Union Mart have good bags. So basically: yes, you can ride with day packs, but is more admin. Oh, an invaluable tool is this book: http://www.kalahari.com/books/The-Essential-Touring-Cyclist/632/9519474.aspx will teach you how to pack your stuff and explain the essentials like what happens if you load certain ways.
  21. Sorry for only responding now. The stuff he sells is amazing! Its the best of the best and are the brands that global tourers use. Regards prices, from what I saw, his prices are great. Its seriously worth spending the money. I found Grant very helpful as well and I found his advice spot on. Looking at his site, he has some well priced sets. (The Ortlieb set looks wow but doesnt include rain covers. The Arkel is also wow but doesnt include a rack pack.) (A rack pack is a bag that fits on the top of the rack.) Another little tip: a kickstand is worth it!! This is where i would el cheapo if you are going for a side stand (Checkers / Game) but a double kickstand is better with a full load. Look at the links on his site - will give a good idea as to what you are in for. Also look at my blog (i did pm this to you): http://goingsomewhereslowly.blogspot.com I have included product reviews in there too. Sadly in SA there is so little info on touring and not nearly enough cyclists who tour. I am so hooked on touring its not even funny - I am already trying to work out my next adventure! SA is so stunning so its a great pity. Shout if you need any more advice.
  22. Wish they would make a multi visit pass
  23. Hi, www.cycletouring.co.za They sell everything you need and are clued up and they have stuff that would last. I wouldnt buy 2nd hand - touring stuff goes through hell on the road. Just a tip: check your bike to make sure if it has eyelets above the dropouts. If it does, phew. If it doesnt, then you still ok cause cycletouring sells a pannier for that. I have recently just completed a tour, so shout if you need help or advice. Regards Di
