  1. There is this little hot sauce company in Auckland that does truly amazing things with peppers. I have been on a waiting list for a small batch hot sauce that was delivered today. I am pleased to say it exceeded every expectation and is truly good.
  2. I am sitting at CHC airport about to head home. Spent a long weekend here with the family. I am absolutely in love with Hanmer Springs. If my AKL job transferred me to CHC and I retained AKL wages, it would be a really compelling proposition. We took the Kaikōura to Hanmer road on Saturday just as the snow hit and despite getting a little stuck, it was amazing. Here are some pics.
  3. its not pretty. They mostly give up halfway. They can call me what they like, as long as they let us stay.
  4. Technically you can swing citizenship in 4.5 years. You need to be in the country for 183 days out of that final year and then you are allowed to submit.
  5. I never thought I would ever look at tyres and think "those are hot" What is becoming of my life???
  6. Yes. Premium versions in the next 3-4 months. Base models before the end of the year. Orders are opening is Australia in a couple of weeks. Thats what the 15 year old salesman told me.
  7. delivery to take place within next 6 months. I am reasonably back in the queue due to late registration. But I am ok with that. The deposit is totally refundable if you change your mind. So we have placed the deposit but not yet ordered. We are still waiting for pricing to be confirmed so if it is too expensive I will back out. Also, I am taking the rear wheel drive with slightly extended battery so that’s the last variant to be delivered. We have heaps of Evs here already. Here is a screenshot of all of the points in the north and South Island.
  8. no thanks. We have been driving an electric car for almost two years. It makes a lot of sense in Nz as the charging infrastructure is huge and expansive
  9. Not Cycling related and certainly not yet purchased. But we placed our deposit today and secured our spot in the queue. Tesla Model 3. Here we are at the Auckland dealership playing around with the demo. This is a left hand drive from the states. Obviously our one will have the steering wheel on the correct side.
  10. Short answer. No. Long answer... it would be disrespectful of a Pakeha (non Māori) to have it done the traditional way and also disrespectful to call it Ta Moko. The respectful term to use is Kirituhi which means “skin art” and is a celebration of an art form. My artist is Māori and the process is the same in that you have a consultation around what is important to you and then that is translated into meaningful drawings that are freehanded onto you. I really enjoyed the process of this tattoo.
  11. My most recent piece. Done on the front of the left leg.
  12. Today marks 3 years of residency for us. 2 years temporary and 1 year permanent. In 18 months, we wll be able to apply for citizenship (assuming no international travel in the last 6 months) Im pretty stoked about that.
  13. Agreed. I work in Newmarket and stay out East. On a good day, its 45 minutes. On a bad dy its over an hour. Luckily I can work from home fairly often - those are the good days.
  14. Hey Patches (and any other South Island fans) We are planning a quick highlights trip to Canterbury for the family end of May. We will be doing a bit of a road trip. Christchurch>Kaikoura>Hanmer Springs> Greymouth >Christchurch Via Arthurs Pass I dont have much annual leave so i am doing this over 5 days. Its going to be busy. I am looking for any suggestions of cool things to do/see along the way. Any suggestions?
  15. This thread is turning out to be a lot of rubbish
  16. I am guessing this https://www.priceme.co.nz/TCL-55P6US-55in/p-901625857.aspx
  17. Its not being bought for its looks. Did you read the part about not needing a license?
  18. thats not very nice.
  19. I am thinking of getting this for the wife as a commuter. In NZ you dont need a bike license to drive this, a car license will do. All other scoots require a bike license.
  20. I highly recommend the book. It highlights his personal life and offers a new perspective on the man
