  1. wow. That’s a special gift. I still have a watch gifted to me by my dad many years ago. It’s particularly special. Good on you.
  2. our wives must know each other.
  3. technically speaking he asked for advice on the right direction for financing a bike. Not “can you recommend a bike finance company”. So in my opinion, the right direction is to self finance a second hand bike while saving for your dream bike. No moralising. Just answering the question.
  4. Dont finance the bike. Costs are too high, they depreciate too rapidly and at the end of the day, it's a luxury item, not a need. Rather ride something a little less flash for a while while you save and buy something second hand - great deals to be had. You can still get on the saddle of your dream bike, just be a little more patient and frugal. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but its the smartest financial move.
  5. Just a little gem I found while exploring a local trail.
  6. I ended up letting my guy (11 - but short) use a second hand 24 inch Giant XTC Junior. He is a little big for it to be honest. But for around the hood thrashing and riding to school, it's perfectly fine and I don't really care what happens to it. When we hit trails, he takes my wife's Small Giant Trance 2 27.5. It's a good fit but it's a lot of bike (hence why we don't let him take it to school). If you are toying with sizing, you are welcome to take the 27.5 Trance and see how he rides it. I don't mind at all if you borrow it for a weekend and go for a few rides. It will probably give you a good understanding of the fit before buying something. Sometimes it's difficult to make an assessment in a store.
  7. Just an FYI - Pohutukawa beach in Long Bay regional park is a nudist friendly beach. I learnt this the hard way yesterday with my wife and kids in tow.
  8. I liked your suggestion so much, I ran it on Saturday. Kept stopping to take photos! Then, I dragged the wife and kids back there for a walk on Sunday. Good little track. From the parking at the south end of Long Bay to Okura turnaround and back (with 100acre and nature trail) is 12km. 9. fresh meat!!! I am also on the shore. Silverdale. Where you at Kenneth?
  10. this is really popular over here. https://www.decathlon.nz/products/run-light-100-running-light-black?variant=33116613705781&currency=NZD&utm_medium=product_sync&utm_source=google&utm_content=sag_organic&utm_campaign=sag_organic&gclid=Cj0KCQjw38-DBhDpARIsADJ3kjnNEBmZRZRv5akLFDX5TjQ2qtF9GiofnEO89IGsypgaEFZwPA6Lm70aAvdDEALw_wcB
  11. T8 Sherpa V2 Shorts with Commando undies for the win! Absolute game changer. Totally in love with these.
  12. I miss slap chips. Like proper slap chips with vinegar.
  13. Took the family up north for Easter Weekend. We spent some time at a lodge in Paihia. Managed to sneak in a trail run and some kayak adventure. The kids also convinced me to parasail. Here are some photos - we really are quite privileged to live in such a beautiful place.
  14. Managed to sneak in a cheeky trail run while away for Easter Holidays. Run took place along the bushway at the Waitangi Treaty grounds.
  15. Its not blatant lies as such. More just embellishment/cherry picking stats to support. For example, the statistic around 46% of all ocean plastic originating from fishing gear only actually applies in the great pacific garbage patch (where it is the highest) it is lower as an average across all ocean plastic. So the producers have sought stats that embellish and paint a picture that is not 100% accurate. I think that's a mistake. It allows the naysayers an opportunity to discredit the film. For the record, I emphatically agree with the purpose of this film. As a 4 year Vegan and huge proponent for eliminating harm to animals, I am already a convert and totally on their team. But cherry picking stats is a risky business.
  16. Dar Es Salaam was my worst. And Shanghai. EEK
  17. I watched it last night. It's a good watch. As a Vegan, I did find it incredibly erratic. It confirms a lot of what we know already - you can't keep taking massive amounts of animals out of an ecosystem and expect everything to be ok. I have been doing some fact checking on the stats in the movie and there is a little bit of Cherry Picking going on. Some of the statistics just aren't true. Thats a shame, because I totally agree with the narrative and am totally on board, but the omni naysayers will spot the mistakes and that will mean the message loses credibility. As with most things in life, don't live in a vacuum, learn as much as you can from varied sources. The ending scene with the whale hunt was extremely difficult to watch. Which is sort of the point. If you can't watch your food being prepared without it turning your stomach and messing with your mind, you really should be asking yourself some hard questions. in summary, humans suck.
  18. Part of my mandatory gear list for some of the ultra's coming up is rain/cold weather gear. I have found it quite beautiful to run early in the cold wet mornings. Its so peaceful and calm. I am normally always alone and can hear the sound of my footsteps and breathing and get lost in my thoughts. Its really quite cathartic. If it wasn't for being "forced" to buy that stuff and getting comfortable in it, I would have missed out on this type of running.
  19. My logic on this... Remember that coach that believed that if you got 1% better each day, over a year you would be a superhero (or something like that)? Tracking the stats means that I can look for small measurable areas to improve daily and that equates to a larger improvement over time. There is a fine line between monitoring for improvement and obsessing though. As a "newer" runner, measuring my performance while using a coach for a program is a good way to improve. I ran socially (jogging) for years without much thought to any of this and my running reflected that. I did the same stuff, so the result was the same.
  20. THERE IS HOPE FOR ME YET!!!! IF you don't mind me asking, how old are you and what is your VO2 Max? I am fascinated by the stats. I think about them all the time while running and do mental maths all the time. I totally nerd out on the data.
  21. On my fastest 5km, my cadence was 181spm and my stride length was 1.21m. So Stretch is really living up to that username by stretching his stride to 1.6m (if you can stretch it 10 cm more, your stride length is the length of my body). Basically I am short.
