  1. I will be close behind in N. Maybe in a couple of more races I might join you
  2. I think this technology is really worthwhile. The principal goes very much along with what rock climbers do with their ropes. They are allowed a certain number of climbs and then ditch the rope. In my opinion, when it comes to safety, you don't go cheap or you don't look to save a few bucks. Saving R500-R1000 bucks now, can cost you your life later. Ofcourse it is always possible for manufacturers the abuse the system to make more money. Hence, your skepticism. The principal is still good.
  3. I Agree that the logo probably did need to be reworked for practical and business reasons. However, the new logo have left a lot to be desired. At the same time, in a year or two it will make little difference. No one will remember and the Cape Epic will talk for itself. It is one of the greatest races in the world - good or bad logo.
  4. No question about it. The wheels are the one item that makes the biggest difference in speed on a bike.
  5. Its no just the Polar HRM its Garmins as well. I got a Garmin Forerunner 305 second hand for R1500. Its been discontinued, but just before being discontinued it could be bought at R1800 new! I saw earlier this week a model offered for R2500!! A bit crazy for me. If you shop around, there are plenty of good deals available
  6. The key word there is sale items. I bought a new pair of cycling shorts during the Cape Storm sale, and I specifically went to the warehouse because of this. They are busy getting rid of the year end stock so they can bring in the stock for the new year and limited sizes are available. You can't really expect them to return sale items. Its a completely different story on the non-sale items.
  7. Mada, I can relate I went to ride with some mates at Delvera, new to the cycling scene, new to clip in pedals. Even though I did a lot of riding on the road, clipping in on the trails are different. Anyway, my first outing I went over the handle bars and broke my collar bone. Have been struggling with confidence since. Still keen to learn all the MTB skills, but I am a cautious rider, which kills momentum, which as said earlier, momentum is your friend.
  8. Does anyone have a map of the route? That is for the road event.
  9. I do a 19km (each way) commute ±3 times a week. Takes me about 50-55min. Haven't been able to commute by bike this week. Down with a cold.
  10. Andy: Sorry about the confusion in title. But yes I have a cold and not the flu. I did read up on it to clarify the difference. In the end I have pretty much decided on some rest and taken a cough syrup and an Advil every 8 hours. Seems like it is getting better, I just hope enough for Saturday's ride.

    Child seat

My wife and I decided to get the WeeRide. We mounted it yesterday and she had a short ride (±1km) with my daughter. Unfortunately we stripped the nut on the one bolt, which we realized only after the ride, so we need to get that fixed before they can go for another ride. We are quite excited about cycling with the little one. One of the best things is that my wife is excited about it, and she is keen now to get back into cycling.
  12. I had some serious sinus problems starting this past Thursday, and it slowly started to spread to my chest. On Saturday morning I had a very light cough, but still did a 90km ride with one of my mates. We took it easy for most of the ride, except the last 10km we pushed to the end. Anyway, its now a proper cold and I am doing the Durbanville Funride this coming Saturday. I really want to be well for that. Have you guys got any idea on how one can make sure you can shake off the cold in 5days?

    LOOK 695

Sweet . I wouldn't mind one of those
  14. I was wondering the same thing. I entered in about two weeks ago. I ride in N group, so no need to be so early. Might lose out if it is the 1st 500 hundred to register.
  15. I must commend the garmin online shop for excellent service. I have a garmin forerunner 305, which has been discontinued and I have been looking for an extra bike mount. I tried to arrange one through Due South, where I got the unit. In two weeks, I have received one call from them saying they are looking into it. I have made several calls to them following it up. I called the Garmin distribution centre in JHB, but they could deliver the unit at a more expensive price and more expensive delivery cost. The online shop delivered the unit for me in 1 day. I was expecting to wait a week or two, but was really surprised to find the unit at home today. Well done Garmin online! You guys are great

    Child seat

Believe it or not, from what I have heard thus far the general opinion is that the one with the child in front is safer. the child gets strapped down, like a car safety belt, so she won't shoot out over the bars, plus your body is around her to protect her from a fall. I don't know how seriously it affects your pedalling action having the child in front.

    Child seat

Hi All My wife and I are looking for a child seat for our daughter, who is now 15 months and 13kg. We have heard mixed comments about having the seat in front of you, or behind you over the rear wheel. What are your opinion as to which is better? Thanks
  18. By the way, What's the going rate for a full MTB service?
  19. What are your guys view on City Cycles in Canal Walk? How do you rate their service?
  20. I bought my Garmin Forerunner 305 based on this review. The forerunner 305 has been superseded by newer models, I think the 410 XT is the latest. DC Rainmaker has some more reviews, which are excellent. Have a look and decide for yourself. I use the sporttracks 3.0 software, later versions you have to pay for, but its got all the features you need. Again DC rainmaker has a review on software as well. For me, I must be able to download the data to my pc and not a website. But read for yourself and then decide.
  21. Hi there I bought a new road bike at the end of 2010. Early in January I did about a 100-100-120km and the gears started slipping. I took it in to the bike shop to have it serviced, as I understand you usually have a first service quite soon after buying a new bike. After another 150km, the gears started slipping again and the chain has come off twice in one ride. After the ride, I adjusted the gearing on the barrel adjuster. This helped a bit in the next ride but the gears are still slipping and the chain came off again (On the inside). Have you guys got any recommendations? Is this normal, cause I can't fork out R250+ everytime to have the gears adjusted after 100-150km Thanks
  22. Thanks for all the advice. I got a pretty sweet deal on the Forerunner 305. Now to hit the road!
  23. It seems to me that the polar HRM's tend to be on the expensive side. I am considering the Garmin Forerunner 305. Would you recommend / not recommend the HRM and why?
  24. I am looking to a buy a heart rate monitor. The basic functions than I am looking for are: Data must be downloadable (preferable to pc) I want to wear it like a watch. Use for basic interval training. I don't need extremely long life battery. I can charge it daily Measuring of cadence is an optional nice to have. GPS is not required. The budget is stretched, so cheaper is nice, but I don't want to compromise on quality. How effective is downloading to a website, since this looks to be cheaper than downloading to the pc. Can you properly analyse the results over the internet? Is it not too slow with the data upload? And is memory a problem for this? If you know of 2nd hand ones, feel free to recommend. Thanks
