    Bike Setup

Yeah, im interested in this too, but in JHB. Only know of Cyclefit and the BG Fit.
  2. Yip, kid lost control and swerved into the road and fell off his bike to the left (thank goodness to the left!!). He managed to get his right leg off over the bike before the car drove over his entire bike. It was the most frightening thing, regarding motor accidents, that i have seen in a long long time. Had she been going faster and missed him, it would have been me that hit him Had she not swerved out like she did, she surely would have ridden over the kid and bike all in one. And why was he on this road? Even i wont ride on that road, it is barely wide enough for cars, let along a bike as well. Nobody is to blame here, but still a question i cannot help but ask. Just hope he is ok as i think the fright of the whole thing was worse than what happened, but it could have turned out so much worse. And kudos to the two black guys who were behind me who stopped. Nice chaps who genuinely wanted to help but the kid was not hearing any of it I guess he has been taught not to speak to strangers, fair enough i guess. Just hope he wont use that road in future to ride on. It was just an eye opener is all, a scary one.
  3. Yesterday afternoon, i was witness to a bike accident. It happened right in front of me, i was behind the car that hit the kid on his bike. The women slammed on brakes and came to a dead halt and thankfully because i obey following distances, i was able to avoid slamming into her because had i gone into her, it would have pushed her car onto the kid. Her car had already driven over his entire bike and through some divine intervention, the kid managed to get out of the way. He was hit by her bumper at an angle but is going to be fine. He was not in the direct path of her car, more to the side so he got bumped and not hit as such. This was on that dodgy road going towards Clearwater. That bend between the mountains directly underneath the UFO house. He was riding towards Clearwater and literally lost control of his bike and swerved into the path of the traffic and fell in the road. That road is narrow enough as it is... She was able to swerve thankfully else it may have been different (was no oncoming traffic). So naturally i stopped as my nerves were shot to ****, the kid was completely shocked and terrfied and he got up and walked further down the road to where there is a bit of a side grass patch. He just would not stay still even though i advised he stay still as you never know what injuries have occured. It is the most horrendous thing to witness. Even though the kid is going to be fine, it is awful to see happen. His bike is very bent and completely finished though. Kid was about 12, so hope he is ok.
  4. Seriously, for the cost of R160 the ICE ID is the best money spent. It is durable, i wear it day in and day out, spin with it, cycle with it, drive with it, walk with it, swim with it... It is right there on your arm instead of in a back pack. If you have neck or back injuries, they will not move you in order to go scratching through a bag on your back as it is too risky. Something on the arm is right there and even if you get mugged whilst laying half dead on the roadside, i hope the crooks are not so low as to steal a material band off your arm but they will take a phone, drivers license etc.
  5. I have the ICE ID normal wrist band. I am not a jewelry girl so i wear this all the time. Feel naked now without it Also a Helivac member and have the details of that on my ICE.
  6. This is so sad I have ICE ID and i wear it as a permanent fixture on my arm, even when not cycling. It is part of my arm furniture.

    29er is King

Got both standing in the lounge (lounge is the bike room...), 29er is hubbies, 26 is mine. Have ridden it, and even though it is a tad big for me, i still prefer my 26 much to my hubbies horror. Its a personal preference thing at the end of the day.
  8. I ride on Ontdekkers (well, the service side road actually, too freaken scared to venture onto Ontdekkers itself) on a MTB. For one i am a tad too big for a road bike, and secondly until my asthma is under control i cannot go to NF, and thirdly because i am doing my all to get fit and lose a few, i am using the roads to pile on distance. Also, we have been so busy lately that it is just easier to ride from our front gate instead of a 45 min drive to NF or anywhere else to go and ride. But man i am missing the dirt roads Will get back there soon i hope.
  9. I have been searching around on the net for people QUALIFIED to do the BG Fit here in JHB. Then i came here and searched the site and found this thread. Is the BG Fit worth the money and time? I cannot find anywhere on the Specialised site someone that is qualified in JHB. Is it worth doing over going to the Cyclefit guys? Being a newbie to the sport, i do not know who is who, nor am i interested in the politics. I just want a decent fit done as I have a lot of pain in my hands. This is for a MTB, recreational rider. Where can i go? Any suggestions or advice?
  10. Yes, i agree. My post came across a tad wrong, but what you say here is what i meant - they know full well it is a load of rubbish, yet they pout on about chemistry of which they have no knowledge. I do laugh at the high end guys though when i see a PB band on their arms
  11. I have a huge issue with fad companies marking the latest fad based on science which they CLEARLY have NO clue about, including general science and ions. Ions in a band on your arm... WTF next? So tired of this crap, but moreso tired of the people that continually fall for it! Evidently the people who do fall for it, have no knowledge of chemistry whatsoever. These fads should be shut down for good.
  12. How far do you plan on going?
  13. I live two mins away from there but that is too early! Only one 4 o'clock in a day and that is not the morning
  14. I dont even take my dogs out without seatbelts! And they too are never allowed to sit in front. Sick of irresponsible parents. I am more responsible with my dogs than many parents are with their kids.
  15. Same on my iPhone. Was going to post to ask where the mobile version had gone... even when clicking on the mobile link at the bottom, it still doesnt come up
  16. A yelling will be incoming soon
  17. What a terrible way for the family to start a new year
  18. Will i be accepted on a MTB on tar?
  19. This is a bit of a two in one post. I want to know how safe / unsafe it is to ride on Beyers Naude road. I travel that road often to Muldersdrift (from Peter Rd through to just past Glen Burn) and I often see MTB'ers out and about, both on the road and off road. I also see roadies gathering up to ride every Saturday morning. I usually always see this in various spots along the road whilst on my way to Walkhaven as I take the dogs there every weekend. This morning I was on my way to Walkhaven again at around 7.30am, and i had already gone over the Krugersdorp highway and was approaching the turn off to Glen Burn. Then i spotted a small figure up ahead and i could not make out what it was... it was a black blob on the side of the road (on the tar) and as i got nearer i could see it was moving. So now i was really stumped because had it been an animal of some sort it most likely would not have been moving in such a controlled and straight manner. Then i was able to make out two wheels but still i could not see anyone or anything. I then got the shock of my life when i realised it was a dude / dudette on a hand cycle (i think this is what they are called?). It was a bike where he was laying almost flat on his back and using his arms to "pedal". Heck i dont even have the confidence to ride on that road on my MTB, let alone this, so whoever you are... respect mate. What baffled me more was he/she was completely alone, not a single soul anywhere in sight. What concerned me was the lack of visibility even though he did have a flag pole with a red flag. The flag needs to be a lot bigger and brighter. Either way, i guess this person has the confidence on the roads that i could only dream of having. The cars scare me silly. So on that note, is this road ok to ride on? I also often see MTB people out and about along that road ALONE. Is that not asking for trouble? I cycle around my neighbourhood and the guys stand and stare at you and the bike and that makes me very uneasy even though it is in a built up neighbourhood. Then i see these people out on their bikes going past the Zandspruit location without a care in the world? What am i missing? I live on the West Rand and would like to know where it is safe to get some tar miles in, any ideas? Going around the neighbourhood for km after km is getting a bit boring but going out onto Ontdekkers Road is a scary thought.
  20. I am busy with a Biochemistry degree and whilst i cannot answer your question off hand (seeing that i am still busy studying), if you like i can look through my ton of textbooks and see what i can find related to this.
  21. Seeing that i just got home with a brand spanking new 2011 Giant XTC 29er for my husband creature, we had better be going for a ride as we are totally alone this year with no family, no friends, no nothing and therefore have nothing to do but ride! So i have a good 20km or more planned for Christmas Day
  22. I sometimes use the Princess branch even though they are expensive. They have been ok so far, but i do not trust their bike servicing.
  23. I would also like to know, as I will be taking my spare bike over to the UK the next time i fly.
  24. Your attempt at humour is really weak and stupid.
  25. Please just remember that it is seriously hot and having your dog run with you for goodness knows how many kms is not good. Dogs can over heat easily and the last thing you want is a dog with heat stroke whilst 20km from the nearest point of help. For young and energetic dogs its great, but be considerate for older dogs.
