  1. I agree SP If that was true then I should have been dead a long time ago. I drink up to 4 liters of coke a day in the summer and in winter when it's cold 8-10 cups of coffee a day Even the story that too much coke and coffee causes kidney stones.....hell, I should have had rocks passing through my system by now
  2. JB, Luckily I have not had any of this happen to me but have witnessed it once before....the wheel coming off and overtaking the vehicle. All explanations above are technically correct, although no scientific calculations/explanetions have been given. Madmarc's explanation is correct, but don't forget that besides the applied force by the axle, once the wheel leaves the vehicle, the rotational inertia will also help speed up the wheel seeing as it is much lighter than the vehicle that it came off. Once it starts bouncing it's momentum will also increase, as their is less resistance in air than when it simply just rolls along the tar.
  3. Oooh... Look at that... you just relieved yourself all over tazman's bonfire That's going to make stink
  4. The problem with people commenting on prices of equipment, is that it is most of the time by people who have no interest in buying. They just throw their 2c in and detroy the sale completely. Like it was said earlier, if someone feels that the price is too steep, then let the seller know via PM and give constructive advice with facts to back up your statement. Don't go flaming a person in public. At the end of the day it is the buyers obligation to compare prices and make sure that he/she is getting a good deal. Maybe next time I want to buy something at my LBS I must advertise their price here and see if everyone on the hub will run around to see if they get me a better price somewhere else. At least then I won't have to my own dirty work. Because that is what happens here, as soon as an item is advertised then prices from all over the country are thrown at the seller to intimidate the seller into dropping the price. I had the same hassle when I tried to sell my Polar a few weeks ago. People who weren't even interested in buying the unit, were flaming me for asking too much, which severely impacted on the sale. So my advise....MYOFB!!!
  5. Does anyone have experiance with a Santana Tandem? Is there an agent in RSA or not? http://www.santana-tandem.com/

  7. The rules only state that a person must have a helmet if they want to ride. At least she had a helmet!

  9. Dan was a single guy living at home with his father and working in the family business. When he found out he was going to inherit a fortune when his sickly father died, he decided he needed a wife with which to share his fortune. One evening at an investment meeting he spotted the most beautiful woman he had ever seen. Her natural beauty took his breath away. 'I may look like just an ordinary man,' he said to her, but in just a few years, my father will die, and I'll inherit $20 million.' Impressed, the woman obtained his business card and three days later, she became his stepmother. Women are so much better at financial planning than men. <?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

  11. I had the same problem a while back where I had a pain in my left ribcage . The doctor told me it was the muscles between the ribs that got hurt due to over exersion. she said that sometimes the pains can start a few days or weeks after you hurt the muscles. Lately I have been getting a pain in the middle of my ribcage where the left and right ribs meet. It feels as if someone hit me with a fist. Usually after a good night's sleep it feels better.
  12. I bought a set of blue KCNC's at karsten Cycles last week for R120
  13. Thanks. I will look around to see where I can get a few
  14. I need some technical help wrt reactions between metals. <?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> I built a bike rack for my trailer and had it galvanized. I now want to put aluminium channels on for the wheels. The problem is that when aluminium is mounted on a galvanized surface, the galvanizing causes the aluminium to corrode, albeit be it over a long period of time. Is there a way to prevent this corrosion from taking place? In the high voltage industry we use a yellow paste called Denso Paste on copper-to-aluminium connections to prevent the metals from corroding each other. Is there a similar type of compound for aluminium-to-galvanized connections?
  15. I have a homade towbar mounted rack that takes 2 bikes that can flip away from the bootlid (alla Holdfast style) for easier access. It mounts behind the tow hitch, as the pinch type that fits on the ball prevents towing of a trailer while the bike rack is on. If I tow my trailer, then I put an extension on to move the trailer away from the bikes. I have now made a bike rack for the trailer lid too that can take 5 bikes, as my mountain bikes dont fit too well on the bike rack. At least towing the trailer I now have more place for all the extra cr@p that goes along. As for wind drag and fuel consumption it doesn't really matter whether you have a roof or rear mount rack....wind drag is wind drag and your consumption is going to take a hammering. I've also had personal experiences of driving into a garage with the bikes on the roof and will never use one again. It only takes 1 second of loss of concentration and your bike is wiped out. At the end of the day the decision is yours.
  16. I would like to know if is it better to train (spinning more precisely) after having supper or to train first and then eat? My wife is doing spinning for the first time and her body is not accustomed to the punishment that us more experienced cyclists' are, and I don't want her passing out on the bike after 10 minutes. What would the fundis suggest?
  17. I have a mini stun gun. Maybe I should start taking it with me on my training rides. I saw Dischem has pepperspray with a velcro attachment for R175....Thinking of getting one of them too. What would be the best place on someone's body to stun a person for maximum results?
  18. On a 100km race I usually take 3 gels and two bananas and alternate them. The bananas help keep my stomach full while giving energy (usually for on the hills where I need a quick booster). Bombs work excellent...a great time and energy saver, but with a weight penalty
  19. Can you park the rear wheel of one of the bicycles on a car bonnet? Damn guess she still out ranks me then I can park my front wheel in the boot. Does that count for anything?
  20. You feeling guilty SV?
  21. On the same topic.... While waiting for the elites to finish, 4 cyclists out training were coming up Hekpoort from the finish side. 2 of them were riding abreast and holding up traffic. I asked them to ride side single file and let the traffic through. One of them, who was a fat pig and was huffing and puffing his way up the hill told me to f*ck off because the traffic had to wait for him. If I had not been part of the marshalling team I would have gladly shown him where the side of the road was. But once again, it just goes to show the mentality of some people. it is due to tjops like that, that the rest of us are have to incur the wrath of the motorists.
  22. It's amazing how a cyclists attitude changes from being on the bike to being behind his steering wheel. I was a marshal at the start/finish and saw something that amazed me. While on their bikes most cyclists had the attitude that they owned the road and that cars had to wait/give way for them. When they finished the race and went home, traffic going up Hekpoort from the finish were guided onto the gravel next to the road, and the tarred lane going up Hekpoort was reserved for motorists coming down. Some cyclists were totally inconsiderate and impatient because they had to ride on the gravel or wait for oncoming cyclists to come past before moving on. They then went about 100m on the gravel and then came over onto the tar into oncoming traffic, causing the oncoming traffic to move over into the cyclists lane and causing potentially unsafe situations. These were the same cyclists that 3 hours earlier wanted their own space on the road and to be out from between the cars. Now I ask you...don't the tail-enders have the same right and as the front riders to have their own space on the road?
