  1. Sorry, my bad. Is this only related to MTB events where you have your race number on the handlebar? Roadies have their race number on their back so won't be visible when photos are taken. I'm a fulltime roadie and and have never had this problem.
  2. How is this illegal? When you receive your race pack there is a set of self-adhesive numbers enclosed. No one forces you to put those numbers on your bike or helmet. The are instructions included in the race pack stating that if you want a picture to be taken then you must wear the numbers. If you put the numbrs on then don't complain because you get a few photos in the post a few weeks later. You just simply accepted there invitation to take photos of you by putting the numbers on.
  3. I had the same problem when I had my Polar. I usually had to line the IRA device up correctly with the wrist unit and kept the whole setup out of direct light as it seemed to affect the IR connection...I usually put a book over the unit while downloading.
  4. Much easier on the fingers' date=' but the smell man, the smell. My main objective is simple. (I did my 1st 94.7 several years ago in 3.35. Then I got really soft and lazy and went into last years challenge hopelessly unfit, undertrained and really stoopid and managed a 4.40 (4 hours 40 min)) It was a much tougher course but the whole thing was really painful. I have not enetered this years 94.7 for a number of reasons (one of which is simple economics), but my thinking is, do a good deal of training and riding, build a good foundation and aim at a sub 3 hr challenge next year. To do that I need to be enjoying my cycling and I need a half-way decent bike. Moderate technology should suffice and do the job without going overboard. If I can get down a hill at 60 instead of 50 or do 45 on a flat instead of 35, and can go into a corner a fair bit faster, then this should be an achievable objective. This is the plan, now I just need to get to grips with the technology to work it all out. I looked at the Cannondale and Giant websites yesterday and everyone seems to have their own jargon to add to my new dictionary. Considering that I can not afford ultra tech, the top of the range competition cycles are out. Do I go for an endurance bike or a sport bike (as defined by Cannondale) or do I just go and get a Raleigh? The only frame choice raleigh have are compact (according to the web site). How will this effect me on a long ride such as the 94.7? Bear in mind, I am 1.9 m tall and weigh in at 95 to 100kg. A size 60 frame has been recommended (or a large in todays terminology). What would be a reasonable, middle of the road bike for me to consider. Mercx. I like the look of the bike you have on offer and I am considering the purchase, but don't wait for me if you get another offer. I am trying to get the ducks in a row before I make the final decision. It has taken a good deal of five years to get here. (Some of those was when the bike just collected dust).[/quote'] Try Pantani's bike. He likes the white line
  5. Imagine they loose that pumpkin and it hits some poor tjop on the head who wisely kept his feet on mother earth
  6. The buyer will always try and get maximum price his goods. The price on all 2nd hand goods are open to negotiation, so the buyer advertises his product for more, knowing that he is going to be knocked down and still make what the product is worth.
  7. I don't know Ben and haven't had the pleasure of meeting him, but he souinds like a great guy. Good luck Ben and I hope you have a speedy recovery. HIJACK.... There are tools on the market for tightening and cutting off cable ties. In an LBS it would be an invaluable tool as far as safety goes and also time saving. They are available through most electrical wholesalers. Also available from http://www.hellermanntyton.co.za/prods.asp?id=46 HIJACK offSpeed Devil2008-10-10 06:15:02
  8. Ralieghman You ae looking for a 20 page bashing thread for everyone to take out there frustrations. I think we've had enough of that for the last two weeks. Go ride your, clear your head and then come back on monday and start a thread on how helpful our LBS' have been and the good deals we've had on the HUB!!!
  9. One tip they for got is that motorists must not past a cyclist and then turn in front of him/her
  10. Marius, are you trolling?
  11. The problem is that when a person starts doing something and it works and they feel good, then they will always want to go a bit further...It will never work and the playing field will never be level.
  12. Wheelsuck I have patched many tyres like that before with no problems. Just make sure you use the black patches with the orange edge and not the strips that you have to cut up. The strips are thinner and tend to "blow through" the the under high pressure. If you are really worried about your wheel being off-balance then put the patch opposite your tube valve and if you have a magnet on the wheel then put the valve, magnet and patch at 120? apart.
  13. If my memory serves me correct, I think I saw them at Cycle Lab in Centurion last week but didnt look at the price. Try give them a ring and check.
  14. Congrats Ox Welcome to the smoother side of riding Hope you have many good miles on her.
  15. Square-circles If you are racing this weekend you are going feel very tired and probably won't do very well if you donate blood this week. If you really want to donate then get some iron tablets and vitamins and boost yourself. I usually donate at work, but the w@nkers only come on Thursday, so I stopped donating because it was too close to the weekend.
  16. Due to Uncle trevor's generosity I was able to buy my garmin Edge 305 last week. I noticed that the battery is rechargeable and has a little rubber flap over the mini USB port. I see there are are also little holes underneath, probably for the warnings sounds etc. Further more the unit seems to be pretty watertight. I would just like to know if these units are waterproof or splashproof and if anyone has had any hassles with water ingress on their units.
  17. Why don't we start a petition and hand it to the medical aids so that they can get Garmin onboard as a partner. Afterall Garmin is here to stay and probably the next best thing to sliced white bread
  18. BG, I also have a Silverback Phoenix and haven't had any problems up to now. If you are on good terms with your LBS then ask them if they will change the rear derrailler and fork with a better spec and then you just pay in the difference on the upgrade. If you do that before you take the bike out the shop it will be cheaper than waiting a few months and then changing the components and paying the price on loose bits. I done that when I bought my MTB....I was actually advised by my LBS to do it as I would then have a better spec bike from the start.
  19. That bike is going to look totally wicked when it's built up. Can't wait to see the final pics
  20. Talk about a splash and dash....or should that be dash and splashSpeed Devil2008-09-25 08:41:40
  21. Now that he is not president , I wonder if he will be travelling as much in the future?
  22. It's been around for a few years already. I got it on email labelled as "Doughnut.....Zimbabwe style". But it still remains cool to see.
  23. It might be ridiculous, but at least it looks cool. I wonder how many people ask that guy what make it is, or where did he buy it....Somethings are just worth the effort and priceless
  24. Of course the competition is a lot stronger now...The riders are riding against druggies and drug manufacturers
