  1. I rode through there on my way home yesterday - it is still a bit of a balls-up. The trail now goes right along the river and up the side of the bridge. It is certainly not been cleaned up. There is also a lot of 'grey water' from a sewage pipe along this section. I won't be back there, the whole route needs some TLC..
  2. Topic: 5hr Base Training MTB route in Gauteng? Posted: 07 Dec 2007 at 3:39pm By Nancy Drew From Hendrik Potgieter (heading North), cross over R28 and continue on this road until T-Junction @ R563; turn right towards Hekpoort. Keep right at the Ventersdorp split and continue for +-20kms. Next T-Junction turn left towards Magaliesburg +-1km park at Engen garage on the RHS. From the garage turn right and ride for +-1km until you see the Bultfontein sign, turn right onto the dirt (on RHS there is a general dealer called 'the bird store') - stay on the main road the entire way, make sure the mountain range is on your RHS and you should be fine! The serious climb (Breedts Nek) is about 25km's into the ride. If you don't want to venture into this unknown territory on your own, I ride there all the time..... but NOT at 25km/h... a bit slower Will be spending many a December day there training, let me know if u keen Will be heading off to Sabie tomorrow back on the 7th Jan. Would love to join up after then for some training rides for Sani. Happy riding in December - this area should be nice and quiet! Cheers Roons
  3. I am live in the Lonehill (Fourways) area but more than happy to drive. I am going to try and organise a group for Hekpoort this Saturday. Does anyone have a GPS track for this route? Anyone?
  4. I must say I am finding the spruit a little boring at the moment. Whats more, it is like the bloody M1 on the weekend.
  5. I am battling to get in some really good long training rides in Johannesburg. Where can I do a 5hr training route for mountain bikers in Gauteng? I have got a phobia about tar, so avoiding it is the best idea. Happy to drive a short way to the departure spot if necessary. Ideally do not want to do 5 - 1 hour loops! Thanks! Roons
  6. I recently posted a survey for some to complete to give me an idea of what the SA cycle market looked like (as represented by thehubsa.co.za)! I got 100 responses which I based these on. Here are some of the findings Gender Male 89.9% Female 10.1% Age 55% between 30 and 44 19% older than 45 Province 55.6% Gauteng 30.3% WC Language 67.7% are English speaking Maritial Status 52% Married 34% Single 8.1% living together 5.1% Divorced Ride Style 28.6% Road Only 11.2% mtb only 60.2% Both mtb and rd Training 64% ride 3+ per week 69% train and enter events 16.7% are weekend warriors 62.9% ride mostly in the am 25.8% in the pm Bike cost 37.3% have bike R30k + 28% have bikes R10-20K Bike Age 33.3% have bikes 1-2 yrs old 33.3% intend to purchase a new bike in the next 12 months Next Bike Type 54.9% plan to buy a road bike 45.1% plan to buy a mtb bike I have got a lot more info that I will hopefully be able to use - but smeone might find this basic info quite useful! or not!
  7. During my recent bout of training I started to get sore in the back of my one knee and same calf. The other leg is fine? What can cause this? Wrong bike setting? Cleet setup? Style? Any other suggestions? Cheers Dave P.S. Sould you cleet setup toe in slightly, out or track straight?
  8. Sabie is long weekend in Dec and Sani is end Feb.
  9. Will be doing the intensity! Heading up to the hills closer to the race around White River and Sabie - got a route around Spitzkop that tends to sort that out. I will be modulating the weekday intensity levels and making sure that the weekends are restful after riding. Normally all taken care of by 11am so unless SWAMBO drags me around the malls, easy is achieved! So all on track then!
  10. I need to get some input on the amount of training I am doing at the moment. Currently I am riding to and from work every day (45 mins in the am and 45 mins in the pm). I am doing this 8 times a week (drive to and from Mon and Fri - so one way only on these days) On the weekend I ride about 4 hours on Saturday and about 3,5 on Sunday. So although it is an acceptable 13,5hrs a week, it does not have any rest days. My week day rides are at 65-85% MaxHR and my weekend rides tend to be 60-70% maxHR. I am training for Sabie Experience and Sani2C so the consecutive days can't be a bad thing, I am just worried about not having a rest day/s. Any constructive input will be greatly appreciated. Cheers Roons
  11. Buy the bike mount for the Quest. Fits easily and holds through most rattles. R250 from most shops.

Cheers Roons
  13. Does anyone want to do the Sabie Experience with me? My partner cannot do it and I have just received an entry. 50% costs split etc. Looking at solid performance, enjoy it as much as possible - nothing receord breaking! If you are interesed please let me know. Happy to change my entry to a mixed entry if needed. Cheers Dave
  14. Dear Hubbers Please can you take the time to complete this survey for me. It should only take 2-minutes to do. Corporate life is getting to me , and I am curious to find out the results. Link to the survey is through here: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=R3nXmCJ1cFalN88EfnHarQ_3d_3d Many thanks Roons
  15. My new bike has started to creek. It is coming for the handlebars - or there abouts - did not have time to look down there when I was panting through the crater cruise! Any suggestions? The bike is brand new...
  16. Where is the best place to get one of these in JHB? I need to pop one on my new bike - I have found a price of about R500 - so if anyone can lead me in a direction of a cheaper one I would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance Roons
  17. Who can I get to make up some sponsor cycle kit? Neet to make up about 6 sets of cycling gear? Need quality gear for stage mtb races. Cheers Roons
