  1. Hot damn - R190 for a 60km! That's steep if they want guys to support local events. If it's the double lap route, then even less logistics behind this. Parking was crap at the march hare. What's the contingency plan, it we do decide to part with that amount of cash? Also, last time the route took riders through the water section about 1km from the finish - trampling hundreds of toads staying in the pond that turned into a mud pool after many feet and wheels rode over them. Not cool . Will the organisers divert the route this time?
  2. Late entrants, and as a result get seeded in Z regardless of their riding skills. Then you sometimes wonder what the late entry fee is for.
  3. I bought the waistcoat thing from an industrial clothing co to wear over normal kit. Yellow with plenty reflective across the back and waist. Does not interfere with movement and it only cost me R30.
  4. Weird how smokers choose to shoot the stompie out the window, because they don't want to put it out in the ashtray because their car will smell of tobacco. All while the stench hangs on them like the shirt they wear.
  5. Why take the route through a popular riding area where parents and kids are out to ride? Bet those youngsters got a fright when the fast riders wanted to pass them. Not cool.
  6. This driver's actions place the oncoming riders life in danger. (those who actually bothered to stay inside the cycle lane) A vehicle who wants to overtake this procession now has to move further in the oncoming lane. whatachop.
  7. We rode it last year. It had rained the night before and the parking area turned into a mud pool. The route was challenging (esp. the concrete climb )and the mud slowed us down considerably, which meant the faster guys on the 50km lapped us 1/2 way through. Routes criss-crossed each other so lots of places for skelms to take short cut.
  8. Agreed. As kranswurm said, we need to show respect for the grieving family and close friends in this difficult time. Please coordinate your events with the facebook page. Surely you don't want to exclude his very close friends from participating because you got the timing all wrong.
  9. So true. Innige meegevoel met Cherise en die familie in hierdie moeilike tyd.
  10. So we misunderstood when the guy at the drinks barked to 'leave the drinks alone, it's tomorrow's'? I don't make false accusations. Calm down VG camp fighter, let's agree to disagree.
  11. freeloaders? If it was so, I would've had 10 drinks instead of none. As for the prizegiving, the guy wanted to know what's up with the small prizes. I told him why. You stick with VG then.
  12. Same organiser and his small prizes, different year. The lack of a coffee station is a deal breaker. Apparently they also removed the complimentary drinks for riders halfway through the event. Kind of makes the choice of which 24 hour event to support, so easy.
  13. I was envious of that club when we drove past there Saturday morning. It was raining and despite the poor weather about 30cyclists gathered to go ride. Imagine the turnout if the weather was good (and the double century was not on) Choose well and you will not look back.
  14. Is it true that the organiser got a R1500 fine from the cops about the 70km riders crossing a public road, which he didn't clear with metro? After this weekend we are in two minds about riding the 24hr. Agreed, the toilets were NASTY. I must admit the waterpoint we stopped at was well stocked with bar ones, watermelon, bananas, potatoes, coke.
  15. I think it's www.racetime.co.za. It's not up yet,with only 30 riders on each distance it's not rocket science.
  16. Muddy trail, single tracks turned into rivers, dodgy route markers, an uncut wire fence on the 70km route not marked.( where's the thumbs down sign). My Husband lost his polar right there when he got caught the wire and fell. Heard guys got lost on 18km as well. If organisers choose to go with an unmanned route, they should make sure their route is marked properly. There is no excuse for not putting down a damn arrow on the trail.

Did something happen in the vets group that influenced the results? Some oversights from the organisers this year. They allowed far too many private vehicles on the route. Pedestrians are still a nuisance in Randburg. Plus points: Coke at the end, cool music along the route. Plenty bike marshals. We sat on the pavement in the shade at the finish line, catching our breath, enjoying a coke ( ). Some official thought it would be nice to shout over a megaphone to move on to the hospitality area. She kept on using the damn thing despite standing 2m away from us. Some dude eventually told her to 'PLEASE SHUT UP'. 8h30 is not really peak hour traffic time at the finish line.

Sounds like CSA would've loved to be more involved but the organisers took it upon themselves not to issue the license groups a lead vehicle. From one horse's mouth on the line, that if CSA were in charge of that they could've policed the riders and seconds but by the sound of it seems they are just as frustrated.

I saw the photographer. He was crouched in the middle of the road. The wind was nasty from the left and riders hugged the right hand side of the road. It's easy not to see him if you sit in a big group. Hope he's okay, though.

We don't know which rider she belonged to. The group was fairly big. She had an 'official vehicle' sticker up, no branding on the car. The VBs didn't have a lead vehicle so acc to a CSA official technically there should not be 2nds allowed for them either. Sound like the orgs allowed that. She was the only silly following the group. Not even Nic of Fullard out front had a car. We were on her outside around the corner when she almost lost it. But everyone's ok, thank goodness.

Came across a crazy woman in a white cab and half driving as a second for a VB rider. Our group hooked on to theirs after they passed us and madam thought she could squeeze through the riders despite nowhere for her to go. Wonder how her husband feels about his damaged rims after she cut the corner short, tyres screeching, ploughing through a resident's rock garden on the pavement while deliberately trying to cut off the group on the inside. Her rider should be DQ'd.

Now I know, the sign reads U/16,yellow stickers. I thought it's u16 riders who need stickers. Orgs regs read 'yellow numbers',nothing about collecting a seperate sticker. It's likely an oversight from their part and they tried a quick fix. What the hell anyway...
  23. Most of you already know what colour blouse you're gonna wear on Sunday
  24. Perhaps so, but the cycling industry is known for their big profit margins compared to other lines. Then it's not the end user who has to tighten his belt, but rather the suppliers and retailers who want to stay competitive.

We used 32gi last year after the big hype about it. I have not made up my mind about it but I heard it's got only a fifth of the electrolytes offered by other energy drinks.
