My 11th 94 this year and I don't even get a yellow race number. :-( Seems like orgs are skimping on that too

    94.7 Expo

supercycling advertised Sat. reg times to 2pm, so our plans to go Sat afternoon got bumped so he could go with friends today. I'll ask how much fun he had standing in queues.
  3. Now that I've read this 2 lap idea, I'm thinking of doing it too. Some years ago you weren't allowed to take your bike in at hospitality. You had to leave it in a little fenced off area, way too small for the amount of bikes and it ended up leaning against each other, others fell over etc. So instead of fighting with Big Mike to take my bike with me in the hospitality area, we'll see how it goes for the 1st one and then do another lap.
  4. You're draw harmful, unsubstantiated conclusions. Guilty by association? Really? Stick to the guilty guy untill proven otherwise please.
  5. I think he wanted to know what's up with the goose flesh? (I want to know too). Is the guy feeling chilly because of the drug or is it just a reaction? If you didn't mention it now, I would've thought the guy's a top rider with not enough fat to keep him warm on the start line.
  6. Thanks for bringing this up. I was about to post my own rant on a leech who clung to our back wheel for 30km. I ignored him he rode into my foot the first time. When it happened a second time I warned him I'm going to dish out pain if he takes out my derailleur. And it's not like it was tight bunch riding. We was the only one on our outside. If you want to sit slip and be a lazy ass at least have the decency not to tick off the workhorse.
  7. Yeah, Tyler plays the victim part so well.
  8. thank goodness. We joined an East rand club this year after moving here, thinking the vibe and group rides over weekends would be very similar to their other club in the North. At peak times in summer we'd be the only ones to pitch for training, and the club's MIA at races. What a waste of R750 for their kit.

3am (or try to at least). Got to the venue about an hour before our start last year and there were E riders all dressed up and nowhere to go

With enough speed on the downhill, momentum takes you quite far up before the slog begins. The section after that past diepsloot always kills me. You can see the offramp, but it doesn't seem to get closer. Off at 5h35 in #. Early rise.
  11. +1 on what you said. The Sabie x was my husband's nemesis, despite riding Joberg2c and Epic. The terrain each year is different because of the weather. This watered down version removed the challenge and now my x-lite was cut in half. The riders who wanted to play around on their bikes each day without proper racing, could've joined the coffee group who rode out every day at leisure pace, covering +-20km each day.

+1 Some 4 years ago late starters were caught in a hail storm out on the R28/N14 and they had to take cover under the bridges. Just ride fast.

Thanks for the link. Nothing yet. I'll give them another day or so before I'll phone to ask.
  14. Race started +-3km within the first gate, next to the water slides the past few yrs. Should be the same. The race itself is outside the reserve.

Anyone else waiting for their seeding? or am I the only one?
  16. +1 Was it last year that it was so bad?Riding back was hell. But plenty 94.7over eager beavers who will do anything to grab a wheel. Only nonsense is ALL the 80km riders start together. Saw a guy bounce 1m high in a pile up and we weren't even out the gates yet.

Nonsense. The first odd 50 guys in each group up to about Q,R,S take no prisoners. Stick with them and you'll be fine. I rode a 3h09 in Q a few years back and the main group dropped me on the M1 in to Jhb. Reseeding seems a bit too expensive for my taste.

Shot - in for a sub 3. Just don't overcook it through the first half. Your legs will feel it on Witkoppen and R28. We rode a 3h01 on 94 last year (I trained more then). We rode a 3h on the satellite 92km last week and my last 100km was at sani2c in May.
  19. I was looking forward to riding this solo. I sat this one out last year, but had much fun listening to the announcer's chirps. Nobody was spared! I see the Pops thing only starts at 15hoo. It would've been cool if the 6hr started quite early, like 7hoo and finished in time for the other event to share the venue.
  20. Then There must've been a third event in the area 'cause the 90 km riders had Blue numbers. ;-)
  21. Hope the dude is okay. Sounds like it happened 17km from the finish. We suspect it's that long downhill on the tracking station road just before the last drag up to the T-junction. We clocked 70+km/h there without much effort. We had to outsprint a big truck transporting cement up Hekpoort. Poor driver didn't know if he should pull over or carry on.
  22. At one stage we had two bike marshals. So they were there and doing a good job. As for the ambulances, i think the start is a central point to work from. No point in roaming, and then having to race to an accident 70km from where they are at that moment?
  23. Yeah. I eventually phoned the cell number on my race number and asked the friendly guy to send a pointsman to that intersection so we could get moving. It helped a lot and we got going. If only the twats in their cars would wait their turn to fall in the exit line in the parking area. Good day out and we managed a 3h00 on the 94 (91km)
  24. We watched the highlights of stage 1 on tv last night. A swarm bees attacked a few riders and a guy had what looked like 50 stings over his arms. Not a cool way to leave such an amazing race.
