    RIFLE

Question I’ve done some loading to identify the optimal load for my rifle. It’s a 270 howa. I’ve loaded 130 gr bullets with S361 powder. Started just below maximum recommended grain capacity and went down to just above minimum. Loaded 3 rounds at 0.5gr intervals My thinking is measure fps for the 3 rounds at each load interval and then average the speeds at each load. Then graph it and identify the plateau as which the increase in load doesn’t change speed much. I’ve played around with an excel template and will populate after shooting and would appreciate feedback Load dev template.xlsx

the magnification was actually quite decent and I was quite happy with it. Once I have learnt it then I'm sure it'll be fine for the first year or so. Also learning now what to look for on a scope so I can do proper research when wanting to buy one.

A basic remington 4x40 but it's not adjustable while shooting for different distances. Once it's set then I have to manually compensate for drop

must just give a shout out to the guys at http://silenthunter.co.za/ I bought their silent hunter silencer for R1400 and it works really well. Recoil is reduced nicely and sound nicely down. Again I don't have much to compare with but I'm happy and two friends who have been shooting for years were both impressed with it. Both are wanting to possibly get one for their rifles. And customer service was good. Less than two days fro the time I ordered to delivery in CT.

i shot a bit with a friends 22 hornet and it has a super super feather light trigger. I didn't really like it as it felt like it would fire just by breathing. I'm happy with a slight heavier trigger at the moment

thanks guys i had spoken to quite a few people and a lot recommended the 270. I'm also completely new so went with what they suggested. And it was the 270 that I found at a good price. Am happy with the choice. Maybe later in life once I've learnt more and can shoot better then I'll look for another rifle. I don't have anything to really compare the trigger with as I'm so new. But I was happy with it over the week end with my first shoot. But I was so focused on trying to figure out what the heck was going on with my shots all over the place that I didn't really worry about the trigger I don't see this rifle being a long term thing but sure it'll serve me well for quite a while. I need a new scope first before I do any modifications on the rifle itself.

Fortunately I've only have to pay for powder and primers so far. Was given loads of bullets and cases so a slightly cheaper learning experience. On the topic of bullets. Can anyone recommend an inexperience 270 bullet that is generally available in something between 130 and 140 grain? I need something that I use to still pay school fees with while I get my rifle setup properly and get into things and which my wife and friends can shoot if they come with me. Once I'm a bit more comfortable with things I'll start looking for a better bullet and load that I'll use for actual hunting

Thanks Letum911 Next time out I'll take a shot or two at 50m just to check all is still aligned and then 75m and then 100m and then 200m. Hopefully just a few clicks alone the way

So a massive learning day today. Finally got to the range. 15 rounds later all over the place and every time we adjust the scope it's worse. Eventually figure out the scope is side ways. So instead of adjusting elevation we're adjusting the laterally movement when we think we're adjusting lateral movement we're actually adjusting elevation. So sort that out. Next 30 rounds also all over. About to pack up and realised silencer is loose. Tighten that and get a good grouping of 6 rounds very close to centre. But only at 50m. Ran out of time to take it out further. So super frustrating but a good learning experience and fortunately I haven't spent too much for rounds yet. Next time will try quickly out to 100 and 200 not making the same mistakes
  19. jeepers, that guy needs to be jailed
  20. on the previous rewards you were guaranteed a coffee each week as the minimum points were 25. Now the minimum is 50 miles. The means you could take 3 weeks to get one coffee
  21. got one of these for christmas https://www.takealot.com/smith-wesson-search-rescue-knive/PLID55063909?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIlYTf3_KC5wIVBrDtCh29UgkeEAYYASABEgLV7fD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds quite nice

    RIFLE

had a good learning session last night. So I had loaded about 100 rounds ready for my new rifle which arrived on thursday. But had issues cycling the rounds through. Took them to someone experienced who checked them out and it looks like some of the case shoulders were getting slightly damaged in the resizing process. Just small flat or squashed spots on the shoulders that were causing problems and the rounds were getting jammed. Also a small piece of something in the bolt that may have causes some issue. Cleaned it all up and ended up having to pull about 14 of the 100 rounds loaded which was way better than I had expected. I expected to have to pull all of them. The rest of the rounds have cycled through and once I've fire formed them in my rifle they'll go through easier. Got about another 200 cases that I'll need to cycle through and test before I reload them all and waste time. I've realised there's tons to learn and also why people can spend years learning to load and play around with the smallest of details. The list of tools I want to buy is growing. Last night I learnt about the quick trim die set to size and trim the case, quite cool. But it's fun
