have now come across a how 1500 .270 for a really good price here in CT. Threaded and fluted barrel with a basic scope for under R5k. Thinking of it.

thanks. They are different and I'm more keen on hte 270 to be honest. Physical weight of the gun is a factor for me and I would prefer something lighter for hunting, so the ruger looks better. My father in law is familiar with rifles and has a few of his own so he would be able to give it a good inspection.. Am going to ask him to go have a look if he can. Will keep you updated on the progress

The ruger just looks soo pretty. I have a tightish budget and could use the difference to thread the barrel and then get a silencer as well I have seen a HOWA 1500 270 for the same price as well with a heavy barrel. I would prefer howa over remington The tikka is also nice.

agreed, i want something functional that will allow me to have fun at the range and the occasional hunt once or twice a year. I want something that also looks nice as well. With the amount of shooting I'lll probably do I want to try find something in the middle. So I've been looking at second hand a bit more. And I found a really nice looking ruger 270 with a lovely looking wooden stock for R1k less than the Remington 270 new, and i could offer a little bit less maybe. Hence why I'm considering the option. But the scratch factor is something to consider. Too many choices. I just know that if I don't get something I think looks nice I will regret it later

so i had doubts about the Remington 270 and didn't go through with the purchase. I'm worried I'm going to regret the plastic type stock. Will give it a few more days thought as I won't be able to buy another rifle for a while Also wanted to ask if there is anyone in the pe,/ despatch area who might be willing to go have a look at a secondhand rifle for me and give me their opinion. I stay in Cape town and saw a possible option there.

    RIFLE

so today i buy my first rifle. Nothing fancy but i think a good starting rifle and will give me a few years practice until i buy something really nice one day. So I'm buying a remington 783 . 270 calibre Decided not to go for the 30-06 or 308 as I won't shoot much other than springbuck for now. Once I'm a lot more competent with shooting I can look at something else. But for now I'm happy. Now to start the license application process. Can't decide if should apply for the occasional hunting and sports license as I don't have a lot of preious experience to apply for the dedicated license.
  11. i can believe the km's as they won't use a car like this most days. Possibly the odd track day. but still looks fake

does anyone on this forum live in CT and use a gunwarrior chassis for their rifle? I really like them online but would like to actually hold one and get the feel for it before I go out and buy one.
  13. I like the way he says he comes damn close - not good enough you need to win https://www.sport24.co.za/OtherSport/TourdeFrance/cavendish-heart-broken-at-tour-de-france-snub-20190703
  14. i did the calculation on thursday and it was instant so maybe it's just all the people trying to submit
  15. submitted my tax return on Thursday and money was in my account on Saturday
  16. it isn't technically spent yet. I just have a list of what I need to buy once the money comes in. But its the same amount I get back most years so should get it
  17. i also saw on Wednesday it was available. Completed and submitted mine yesterday and should get some cash back. Although the cash I'll get back is already allocated to a few expenses I need to make around the house:(
  18. regardless of the category you will always be allocated the higher off the day. If you've reached the limit for that category it counts towards the weekly goal but not overall. Discovery don't distinguish and won't drop to the lesser activity for the day to give you points.

    RIFLE

I’ve got a random question I’ve got an old create / box that’s the size of 6 wine bottles lying down. It’s a nice wooden box and I’m thinking of making a hunting / shooting utility type box out of it. The idea is that it’s a small box that I can load into the car for either the range or on a hunt. Won’t be a box that I can carry with me in the bush as it will be a bit heavy and cumbersome. I’m hoping to sand the box down, put some handles on it, varnish it and make it look decent. So I’m starting to think of what I’d want to put in the box and I have some ideas. So far I’ve got the following: Small bullet box to hold maybe 50 rounds Knife / leatherman Rifle cleaning equipment Torch Small medical kit Allen keys / Screwdrivers Place holder for glasses and ear protection. If there’s space I’ll add a small coffee pot and stove J Any suggestions on what else I could put in the box. This is just a fun project but would like it to be practical as well.
