  1. should have posted this under "other sports"
  2. Hi Hubbers, I'm interested in buying Suplest (Tri specific) cycling shoes. Only place that stocks them is CWC and I'm up in GP, thus can't check them out or fit them. Can those of you that are riding Suplest please give me feedback in terms of quality, comfort and fit? Any (USEFUL) feedback will be much appreciated. BTW - I'm looking at the "Suplest Streetracing Carbon Triathlon". Thanks a mil
  3. Tyerone is legit. Worth the wait
  4. You only realise how important core strength is once you pick up an injury. I thought my core was pretty good. Now I know this is the one place all triathletes should focus on more...
  5. If you are going to swim in a costume, put bike shorts on on T1 and take them of in T2, running in the costume again, it can work, and pulling your bike shorts on and off will take you a couple of seconds. Also a good way to see if tri really is your thing, without spending too much bucks. If you're looking for into a suit, tri shorts and top will be cheaper and better for bathroom breaks. New Balance has a great tri short that's half the price of the others and quality is the same.
  6. Clip-ons really do work well, but then you have to get your seat forward as well. Personal opinion: A TT is a nice to have (if you're not a pro or age grouper looking to podium) and you can't do group rides with it. So not worth the money...
  7. +1, on all of the above. Although Tsotso can be magnificent on the day... If Philander has no assistance from the pitch against a good batting line up, he will go for many. So tough call.
  8. I have the Adamo Road. It's my 1st Adamo, so won't be able to compare it to other models. But what I can say, I will never ride TT again on any other saddle!
  9. won't surprise me!
  10. +1 on the shape factor, as with goggles you unfortunately only know how well they work when you're actually using them. With cycling glasses you should have some clearance between your brows and the rim of the glasses. Try to have the glasses a little more forward on the bridge of your nose. Having them too close to your brows will trap the steam.
  11. +1 You have to find the shape that fits your face. Took me 3 pairs until I found the right fit, it happens to be TYR. So good luck...
  12. He deserves a GoPro HERO!
  13. Super stuff from James. In 2-3 year we might have our 1st IM world champ!
  14. Give yourself plenty of time to get to the race start to avoid a rush, which will be good for the nerves as well as give you plenty of options of where to set up in the transition area.
  15. So the Portuguese/Greek triathletes should be clocking the fastest marathon splits as they should be cool as ice coming off the bike?
  16. Don't be overwhelmed by all the triathlon bling. Nothing beats training. Expensive kit and a 100k bike will not make up for lack of fitness/motivation...
  17. Rollers are smoother than tar, thus eats less of your rubber. Your tires can "square up" a little, but that is when you ride MUCH more on your rollers than outside...
  18. Another slipping/creaking seatpost fix. If you are doing your final checks on your bike (before leaving for the race) and you find you have a slipping/creaking seatpost and don't have any carbon paste to sort it out, use toothpaste. After a super-clean of my bike my seatpost caused some creaking and I found this tip online (since most of us do not have carbon paste). Use the old school type toothpaste (not the gel or those with granuals). My spotfix is holding up for months now...
  19. Carry some cramp-block tabs with you, especially on ultras. If you're prone to cramping, start using them the day before. (As a backup, Rennies antacids also work...)
  20. Transition trick: 1st put on your sunglasses, then your helmet. That way the straps of the helmet go over the glasses and they won't get ripped off your face when you take off the helmet in T2. (In my opinion, sunglasses is a must)
  21. Study the course and race rules. Especially for the off-road triathlons. Not only will you ensure you don't get penalised but you will have more confidence (less nerves) on the day knowing what to expect and how to handle yourself.
  22. @bospiet - you are fortunate - you only get to do your 1st triathlon one time in your life. When the day comes, enjoy every moment. You will remember that day for the rest of your life and you will measure every other race against that one!
  23. On a more serious note: Take care coming off the bike into T2. I've seen many too guys faceplank in the dismount! Once again, the couple of seconds you are looking to gain is not worth the pain...
  24. Speaking of which, don't even get me started on guys selling 2nd hand tri suits, tri shorts or cycling shorts/bibs for that matter. Don't be either of those guys (selling or buying).
  25. Never buy a 2nd hand wetsuit from Stiggy, even if it is "almost new"
