  1. Your mate isn't peddling hard enough on his road bike. It's a bull***t comparison. Think about it, if you are peddling at 100% intensity for a period of time it really doesn't matter if you are on a road bike or MTB or what ever. The fact is your HR and intensity is at max. So it's not about the vehicle, but the engine...
  2. I must admit since I started cycling I'm much more alert towards "non-motorized" road users. It does seem that most road users only focus on threats towards them and that unfortunately only accounts for other motorized road users. Fortunately I've never been in an accident but there have been MANY close calls - some measured in centimeters. So the only way to run or ride your bike on the road is to "believe" you are invisible and act accordingly. Always assume that drivers are not seeing you. (A friend once had a lady wave him by and then proceeded to drive straight into him!) Anyhow, hope you heal quickly and fully!
  3. sales@fluidlines.co.za They respond to email - (maybe then you can ask for a number). I have bought stuff from them with no hassles. Their range is extremely limited, but if you find something that fits, you will not get it at a better price anywhere else.
  4. Agreed! Next thing you know he'll tell the guy to save the money for his retirement. We all know we're not saving enough for our old age
  5. Trick question Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is a gift that's why it's called the present. So take "present" from SARS and buy the bike - today!!!!
  6. If I had to choose my last ride - it would be on the Cervelo
  7. Road cycling makes the legs very strong, MTB sort out balance and "driving" skills
  8. I ride a Cervelo S1 & a Scott Scale. I love both. Is that possible - do I have a split personality?
  9. In std 9 (1997) I was 1.85 & weighed 75kg. Today I'm 1.85 and weigh 75kg. (Just replaced a bit of baby fat with muscle).
  10. Alright since this is a bitch and moan thread - here goes! I won an entry into the otter trail run. Now if you know anything about trail running you will know this is the one. The trail only gets run once a year and the field is a select 300. You don't just get to enter, I know people who've waited years to get into that race. Also it attracts the world elite trail runners as it is an incredibly and prestigious event. So I was incredibly lucky to get in and super stoked about the event. And then - stress fracture - left foot. So no running for me, no training no racing. This is the MOTHER of all bitches!
  11. Hi JD, I have the 2010 S1 and loving it. I cannot imagine what the S3 will be like but you will most certainly get your money's worth. There is no better bike than Cervelo and I think the Soloist range is best. Did you see what Thor did on the S5 in the TdF? (7 days in the yellow jersey). Just my 2c - or is that 3s
  12. Hey BBox then you came in 1 spot ahead of me. Well done - great time for your first event. Now that I got the "official" distance on the run legs I feel a bit better on my run times Got to cycle with a nice bunch - thus a very enjoyable ride for me. Great stuff that the weather played along.
  13. If I may add my 2c worth. Hydration & Fueling has been a hot topic forever (Caveman A used to carry a little bark with him on Mammoth Hunts, having something to chew on when the pickings were slim, Caveman B called him a pissy). While it is now uniformly accepted that you can train for an hour without any fuel or water AND you can train for 2 hours with only water, it all comes down to you: You have to find what works best for you. So experiment with various options of solids and liquids depending on training time. You are going to spend a lot of time training, you might as well keep it interesting with playing around with your "fueling strategy". See that already sounds hardcore!
  14. Hi Colin, I am using the energy drink and it serves me well (and the price is very good). Only problem is that Dischem in Centurion never seems to have it in stock. (Shops at Centurion Lake Centre & the Raslouw Centre). It is frustrating to not be able to get my hands on the stuff.
