  1. tongue in cheek humour my friend. no explanation required.
  2. Angel on the road. Faith restored in mankind.
  3. This gentlemen is awesome. "He claimed his 'secret' was none other than looking after himself." Wonder if he was ever married.
  4. Very disappointed that organisers had run out of water at the bottom of Ou Kaapse. We had to wait between 5-7 mins. for the 'bus' to arrive with water. My Garmin showed 42 deg. on Ou Kaapse.
  5. I do think I will visit the PPA office's tomorrow, return the prize and see what they have to say.
  6. Today I was fortunate enough to win a lucky draw prize at the Tour De PPA. The Staminade Endure sponsored/ bought by/at Cycle Lab was open. On getting home I found that the total 1.5kg mix is hard/solid. Obviously this should not be so as the other products that I have bought are all in a powder form. Should I not worry as this is the quality of what is expected of a lucky draw prize? Should I return it to the PPA office as a thank you, but no thank you prize? Just interested to hear various view points. Last year I also won a lucky draw prize at another cycling event. A gift voucher for a weekend away redemiable at an hotel. It's value was rather big. The catch was that I 1st had to pay an amount of x and then also had attend a seminar. I just left it and didnt bother. Thus my reason for enquiring about lucky draw prizes.
  7. So so sad. I'm at a loss for words.
  8. Glad that the cyclist is fine. Boyes Drive has become so dangerous since the coastal drive is being worked on. Many cyclists have had so many near misses on that road. Speeding has become the order of the day. Something really needs to be done. Law enforcement needs to be out in full force for the next few months running up to the Argus.
  9. "What do you do if something like that happen!" I have only one suggestion. Say your prayers. Take your mind off the snake, enjoy the scenery as this will be the last thing you see. Being bitten by a black mamba with your heart rate being high, having no mobile phone and cycling alone you dont stand much of a chance of surviving.
  10. Once again sad memories brought to the fore by this accident! RIP dear cyclist.
  11. We were a social team sponsored by Vodacom. A huge thank you to them for the sponsorship at such short notice. I'll upload our team pics later in the week. We completed the DC in 10hrs 20min, bringing all 12 riders over the finish line. The experience and enjoyment thereof is what mattered. Not the time. As captain I paced the slowest rider to the finsish. For 8 riders this was there very 1st Double Century. To give you an idea, the slowest rider does a 6hr 21min Argus. Our team members do not know each other and this event, plus the 10 training rides have allowed new friendships and bonds to be forged. Thanks so much to the organisers of the event. The bag and socks this year has been appreciated. To the town of Swellendam for welcoming all the cyclists, it's appreciated. To the medics and marshalls, I felt so safe having you all around. The scenery and beauty of the landscape through which we cycle is amazing. My most memorable experience: While cycling up Tradouw I caught the sight of a waterfall cascading over a cave.
  12. excellent tip. thanx. will actually share this with my mates.
  13. +1 Whey protein from PnP mixed with gauve juice. 35g after the ride, then again in the evening and again the following day help tremendously.
  14. I'm sure many of us enjoy a nice massage after a good hard ride. Quiet often this can be very expensive. I am keen to see some kind of database develop on thehubsa where we can find someone who is in our area and charges reasonable rates. Any suggestions? I with a few of my mates will definitely make use of the service. Presently my legs are indeed of some TLC. PROVINCE AREA CONTACT DETAILS RATES
  15. American: traveler British: traveller Awesome mag! thanx
  16. +1 swopped my 53/39 for a compact crank and have never looked back. what a pleasure. It's an all rounder especially with 11/25
  17. My bad! Always someone on the hub to correct one and point out your mistakes! 3hrs 21 min
  18. Thanx for the above info guys. Always though I was alone. When everyone saw I had a Raleigh, nobody really took me serious. That was until I proved that an ordinary entry level Raleigh with sora components could finish the Argus in a sub 3 and a half. My noble stead as she was called, was all that I could afford. Raleigh RC2000 - 2007 model. Sadly we parted ways. She was replaced with another Raleigh. Carbon 2010 this time. Excellent. A hubber on another thread warned that mentioning Raleigh on thehubsa would not go down well with the rest of the community. Thus I was an outcast again and relegated to silence.
  19. Cool. Everything of the best with the opening of the store. Will be bringing my DC team past there on the 10th, so you will definetly have 13 guys in your store.
  20. Excellent comments coming through. Making lotsa notes. Thanks all esp. SPLAT, b-rad & Tiny K Any ideas on the training needed to the run-up of the DC? Should we be starting with a 60km ride and increase this weekly by say 20km? What average speed are we looking at during the practice rides, remembering that this is a varied team of strenghts? Flats or climbs or both? Again, much appreciated.
  21. Thanks so much guys. Tiny K took the words right out of my mouth. This is my 2nd year of frustration on the DC. The weaker guys drain all the stronger riders energy. I really like the social aspect and finishing within the stipulated time. In summary from what has been received: 1. A training roster 2. Committment from all the riders 3. Weekly rides 4. At least 4-5 rides of 150-160km 5. Rotation in the peleton 6. Do the One Tonner7 7. Get rid of dead wood If anyone can assist with more detailed specifics it would be appreciated. I know you dont want to let your team tactics out of the bag, but believe me, the team I ride with will definetly not be a threat. Ideas on the training roster? How do you break the DC up wrt stops? Do I work 'backwards'? Time we wish to complete the DC divided by the lengh to get to an avergae speed! Again a big thanx to those who already posted comments.
