The mouth has been opened to it's original opening, which is a connection to the uMfolozi River. The fishing will never be like back then for all the known reasons. We, just like you fellows, spent every holiday there in winter coming down from the Transvaal. It was glorious fishing holidays on the estuary and from the shore. Sept/Oct was the Grunter Bonanza, I took 7th spot in 1989/90, memory is foggy. Old man always stayed at the Travel Lodge, which was right next to Dolphin Superette. I now live just up the drag and still fish the waters every so often. Will post pictures on my next visit. Edit: I was in grade 2 when I first experienced a salmon run on my rod and having a fight to land which was a 4kg fish just in front of the bridge...no fishing were allowed beyond the bridge after dark.
