  1. Alos rode past the cyclist that passed. Must have been just after it happened . Was not something nice to see and a few cyclists was kneeling next to him. One could see this was not a good situation. After a great day that left a knot in my stomach 😔 Agree - really missed the stadium finish. The heat was INSANE!! Ah well - 22 official finishes in the bag. A few to go still.
  2. What the hell...??!!! Just subscribed for another year!!! Reason? Financial? All the presenters - live races - all gone? Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! There goes the ability to watch live races on any devise anywhere!! This is a disater! Ok...taking deep breaths!
  3. Also hear a report of MTBer shot at, at low water bridge just before Red Barn this past Saturday...Did not verify this. If true - what the hell is going on? Should we all just ride around the block with armed escorts?
  4. So close to Smuts House - that area it seems. Yup - there have been a few issues lately. I avoid that area. Still ride past A-La Turka castle and then onto backroads (past nestle Water Plant) until you get railway tracks to Koffiepit. That still seems to be safe
  5. Where exactly is that area? Article not very clear
  6. Tx a million!
  7. Where can one check you seeding batch? Perhaps it is in here somewhere already?
  8. I stand to be corrected - but they are not an affiliated partner of Garmin SA itself. I.e. any warranty claims etc will still require them to send it off to Garmin. I recall at some point some nasty articles between them...
  9. Do not forget that A LOT of benefits is only applicable if you subscribe to extra features - i.e. bank card etc. Example: You do not get the free week if you are for example sick - if you are not a Discovery bank member. I personally find that to be the exact example of a monopoly forcing stuff down your throat for some benefits. NO THANK YOU!
  10. No 2020 was cancelled
  11. Hmmm...was thinking - what's the chance I appeal again and ask that my 2013 event still be added to Racetec DB? I still have Garmin files etc... What is the statute of limitations of riding with an incorrect chip?
  12. Kept my own records since day one. Especially the earlier versions. This is in fact my 23rd event this year - but was DQ'd one year after finishing with a different company timing chip. All evidence (Garmin, Strava etc) was ignored and deemed irrelevant. For the very first events - Do not even think they had digital results. Certificates were mailed. Over the years there have been multiple timing companies involved. You may still be able to get results in some of the old ones.
  13. Mmm...Have done 21 rides and a 3:39 last year on MTB knobbies - got group N - was a bit shocked.
  14. Agree Tacx App not bad - also used it for a very long time until I had to change trainer and opted for Wahoo Kicr over Tacx Neo (best choice I ever made). Only to discover Tacx App ONLY supports Tacx equipment/trainers. Stupid in my opinion as they actually do have a nice program.
  15. Many if not most other platforms do offer group rides, events etc. But yes, none comes close to the sheer rider numbers of Zwift. Although I still find Zwift output numbers to be quite different than other platforms. On many group rides doing 3.5watts - 4 watts/kg, always seeing riders disappear in the distance. Struggle to see how they get to that performance. Also compared to FulGaz/Rouvy at the same settings I can easily on Zwift average 5km/h faster on a flat route compared to FulGaz/Rouvy. Perhaps I am just imagening things - but Zwift seems "easier".
  16. Agree - Zwift not family friendly - but I find Zwift sooooo boring - limited routes etc. I subscribe to Zwift every couple of months for one month. Find FulGaz's amazing routes much better. Get to see the world in 4K whilst riding my bike.
  17. Hi @lizan Saw that - but my view has not changed. They are ridiculously expensive. Just to compare: Rouvy Plan for two (duo): $199/year (if you take the "cheaper" annual package). Approx R3800 Fulgaz: Plan for two (also cheaper annual package): $109. Approx R2048 And FulGaz video quality exponentially better (4k streaming (FulGaz) vs 1080P streaming (Rouvy)) Fulfaz you download rides via normal webpage. Rouvy only via their app and I have given up as it crashes 4/5 times (start over required) and is very slow. I call that quite a difference. Nope - my Rouvy subscription remains cancelled.
  18. Just me or is current Zwift Tour of Watopia somewhat "under marketed". I cannot even find stage info on their website. Other than signing up - I cannot get more detailled info on actual stages. Also - searching for Stage 1 via events is difficult between all the other clutter of all events. It used to be possible on the Tour Web page itself to easily navigate all scheduled stages specific to Tour and book one quickly. Looking between all events, seems there is a Stage repeat every 2 hrs only? Or am I just missing something?
  19. I just entered and when I was asked if I had a CSA license I said "NONE" - went onto pay and received my entry ticket. And the price did not change when I said... NONE. Not complaining as I think this whole license model is just a scam.
  20. Coo Cool stuff. Then not going to renew my CSA Annual license as I think that is a waste of money. Thank you!
  21. Quick question on old thread. Trying to enter 94.7 Ride Joburg. Do I need to have annual CSA license? Or can a day license be purchased? I used to have an annual CSA license but that has expired. I checked now on CSA website and it is R325 annually for normal license and you MUST belong to a club (which I do not - why should I be forced?) Do I really need an CSA license for the few events I may do a year (mostly ofroad MTB events). I also noticed that on Ride Joburg FAQ it states: The entry fee of R675.00 includes VAT and a CSA rider levy. What is rider levy?
  22. Congrats @WaldoZ Super achievement!
  23. Tx @TyronLab. I too am gobsmacked at the speed of the winners. Do they even stop?? My son was (and still is) in pain, but he has not stopped smiling since we finished. I could not be prouder of him! What a privilege! We finished in just over 13h30m so am very chuffed personally.
  24. Transbaviaans 2023 - done and dusted! Few points: 1. It was hot as hell. After training during winter was not quite accustomed to near 30 degrees temps. But compared to last year - I am not complaining. A blast of a day. Hardly a wind to talk about. Could not have asked for better weather conditions. Had a few drops of rain towards Jeffreys - but hardly worth talking about. 2. Road Condition. WOW, am I smiling!!!! Think it was the best I have ever experienced. A few places there are corrugations but easy to avoid and when we encountered them was really not that bad. A few downhills especially after MAC you must really just be careful. There are some rain ruts that can easily cause an unfortunate issue. Be careful. Many stretches felt like riding on a highway. 3. Perhaps just me but I found MAC concrete strips really not that bad. In fact, I think it was better than previous years. But that could just be my imagination. Nonetheless, was easy riding up MAC. Not referring to gradient (that remiansa hard climb!!!) - just referring to road condition. 4. Water crossings. Found it drier than previous years. Most crossings just a little stream. Water crossing after braaivleis checkpoint was quite long. DO NOT waste your time with dry socks. One of our team riders clipped out in front of me so had a nice long walk through the crossing. Through the reserve there were a few proper MUD pools. Will definitely demand ankle deep riding through - BUT very easily traversable. Mostly just muddy water - not actual mud. 5. Single track at end. Not muddy at all. Very dry. It may still rain this week but for us was perfect riding all the way. Except for very tired legs found it no issue at all. 6. Food stops. Perfect! Oh boy did I love those sosaties! Wish I was less tired and could eat more! Did spend a bit too much time there. Let me know if there are any other questions and I will gladly answer. for the Repeat - enjoy it. It was a blast for me and one of the best ever!
  25. Lovely summary and after having done 6...I 100% concur. Make an effort to enjoy this. It is an adventure not a race.
