  1. Yup - tried that too...same result 😞 Must pick up the card linked to my paypal account is ZA
  2. Ok so I just tried to subscribe and immediately tells me I cannot pay in my current territory. I.e. you would need a UK based Credit Card....Aaaaaarrgghhhh Back to the drawing board
  3. So....I have been looking at alternatives but seem to be hitting speedbumps. 1. I have a VPN setup - so that is sorted! 2. Only viable options seem to be Discover Plus in the UK. One can also go Eurosport - but basically same thing, same setup. 3. You cannot access or sign up for Discovery Plus as it detects when you access it via SA. Refer back to Point 1. VPN sorts that out. So..I can access the sign up page. 4. To cover all cycling similar to GCN you need to take the standard package. 7 Pounds/month. A lot more expensive than GCN but still a hellofalot cheaper than DSTV CRAP! Commentators are the old GCN commentators. Cool! Here comes the speedbumps... 5. My Android phone does not list Discovery Plus in the App store. It does list the Eurosport App but whether that is the app to stream live TV - I do not know. On my Windows PC - same thing. No discovery plus app but the Eurosport App (with/without live streaming - dunno) 6. My Android media player linked to TV has Discovery Plus but tells me it is not compatible with my device...sigh! 7. I am not sure whether signing up to Discovery Plus/Eurosport will require a UK Credit Card. I do not want to subscribe if I cannot fairly easy stream live TV on my PC, Phone or TV. Has anyone progressed further than me? I.e. Subscribe and test on devices?
  4. Thank you all. Appreciate the feedback. Tx @Spirog for sharing your story. As said not looking for any medical advice. Just other real world experiences 😁
  5. So..I am a pretty avid cyclist, 52 years old, do 4- 5 rides a week, 800+ km/month and participate in as many events as my pocket allows. Mostly MTB (i.e TransBaviaans, Sani2C etc) but did the 94.7 this weekend (my 22nd) just to keep the stats running. So went for my annual body check earlier this week that included a CT Angiogram (just dot t's and cross i's as I have BIG family history). My cholesterol is 3.3 (think that is pretty OK) but was then informed I have LAD 50%+ blockage and need to undergo physical angiogram today with a possible stent to be put in (PS rest of my heart is 100%). Quite a shock and I am nervous as hell!! Never had any symptoms whatsoever on bike - feeling healthy as a horse. If I end up with a stent - any effect on my training and event riding post this? Will I still be able to ride as usual with the odd hard heart rate push to max? Or..shoudl I look at tuning thinsg down and reside myself with much more relaxed riding?
  6. Sjo - how sad a situation it is when we are having real and honest discussions on what and how we should carry weapons for defence whilst out on a bike ride!!! WT*!!!!!!!! This is not right!! All we need is a high ranking government family member to be attacked on a bike - then maybe we can hope for change!
  7. Some changes I would recommend: 1. Scrap registration. It is rather useless and most us do not want to drive all the way out there for a quick paper exercise. Surely this process can be improved! 2. Do a quick poll - do riders prefer this route or the previous (easier) one. 3. Now changing the venue cannot be easy. The logistics to organise this in Joburg must be insane! BUT..I rather dislike this venue, especially now that the stadium is just there in the distance. 4. Consider a date change? November is HOT! Perhaps have this in Aug/Sept? 5. Better security/management of car guards. 6. What else? Most of the above not easy. But these are just suggestions.
  8. Perhaps an additional factor - not as BIG as safety etc - is the race difficulty. A couple of years ago it was a 92km event with most of the climbing in the first half with a much easier second half. Yesterday was 98km in sweltering heat with some REALLY hard climbs in the second half. In fact you do over 1000m of climbing in the last 45km. Now for many of us - WE LIKE THAT! But for a large set of the general "I ride ONCE a year" group of riders - this is a rather brutal ride. I saw a LOT of riders down on the road with SERIOUS CRAMPS during those last 3 hard climbs.
  9. Alos rode past the cyclist that passed. Must have been just after it happened . Was not something nice to see and a few cyclists was kneeling next to him. One could see this was not a good situation. After a great day that left a knot in my stomach 😔 Agree - really missed the stadium finish. The heat was INSANE!! Ah well - 22 official finishes in the bag. A few to go still.
  10. What the hell...??!!! Just subscribed for another year!!! Reason? Financial? All the presenters - live races - all gone? Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! There goes the ability to watch live races on any devise anywhere!! This is a disater! Ok...taking deep breaths!
  11. Also hear a report of MTBer shot at, at low water bridge just before Red Barn this past Saturday...Did not verify this. If true - what the hell is going on? Should we all just ride around the block with armed escorts?
  12. So close to Smuts House - that area it seems. Yup - there have been a few issues lately. I avoid that area. Still ride past A-La Turka castle and then onto backroads (past nestle Water Plant) until you get railway tracks to Koffiepit. That still seems to be safe
  13. Where exactly is that area? Article not very clear
  14. Tx a million!
  15. Where can one check you seeding batch? Perhaps it is in here somewhere already?
  16. I stand to be corrected - but they are not an affiliated partner of Garmin SA itself. I.e. any warranty claims etc will still require them to send it off to Garmin. I recall at some point some nasty articles between them...
  17. Do not forget that A LOT of benefits is only applicable if you subscribe to extra features - i.e. bank card etc. Example: You do not get the free week if you are for example sick - if you are not a Discovery bank member. I personally find that to be the exact example of a monopoly forcing stuff down your throat for some benefits. NO THANK YOU!
  18. No 2020 was cancelled
  19. Hmmm...was thinking - what's the chance I appeal again and ask that my 2013 event still be added to Racetec DB? I still have Garmin files etc... What is the statute of limitations of riding with an incorrect chip?
  20. Kept my own records since day one. Especially the earlier versions. This is in fact my 23rd event this year - but was DQ'd one year after finishing with a different company timing chip. All evidence (Garmin, Strava etc) was ignored and deemed irrelevant. For the very first events - Do not even think they had digital results. Certificates were mailed. Over the years there have been multiple timing companies involved. You may still be able to get results in some of the old ones.
  21. Mmm...Have done 21 rides and a 3:39 last year on MTB knobbies - got group N - was a bit shocked.
  22. Agree Tacx App not bad - also used it for a very long time until I had to change trainer and opted for Wahoo Kicr over Tacx Neo (best choice I ever made). Only to discover Tacx App ONLY supports Tacx equipment/trainers. Stupid in my opinion as they actually do have a nice program.
  23. Many if not most other platforms do offer group rides, events etc. But yes, none comes close to the sheer rider numbers of Zwift. Although I still find Zwift output numbers to be quite different than other platforms. On many group rides doing 3.5watts - 4 watts/kg, always seeing riders disappear in the distance. Struggle to see how they get to that performance. Also compared to FulGaz/Rouvy at the same settings I can easily on Zwift average 5km/h faster on a flat route compared to FulGaz/Rouvy. Perhaps I am just imagening things - but Zwift seems "easier".
  24. Agree - Zwift not family friendly - but I find Zwift sooooo boring - limited routes etc. I subscribe to Zwift every couple of months for one month. Find FulGaz's amazing routes much better. Get to see the world in 4K whilst riding my bike.
  25. Hi @lizan Saw that - but my view has not changed. They are ridiculously expensive. Just to compare: Rouvy Plan for two (duo): $199/year (if you take the "cheaper" annual package). Approx R3800 Fulgaz: Plan for two (also cheaper annual package): $109. Approx R2048 And FulGaz video quality exponentially better (4k streaming (FulGaz) vs 1080P streaming (Rouvy)) Fulfaz you download rides via normal webpage. Rouvy only via their app and I have given up as it crashes 4/5 times (start over required) and is very slow. I call that quite a difference. Nope - my Rouvy subscription remains cancelled.
