  1. Just me or is current Zwift Tour of Watopia somewhat "under marketed". I cannot even find stage info on their website. Other than signing up - I cannot get more detailled info on actual stages. Also - searching for Stage 1 via events is difficult between all the other clutter of all events. It used to be possible on the Tour Web page itself to easily navigate all scheduled stages specific to Tour and book one quickly. Looking between all events, seems there is a Stage repeat every 2 hrs only? Or am I just missing something?
  2. I just entered and when I was asked if I had a CSA license I said "NONE" - went onto pay and received my entry ticket. And the price did not change when I said... NONE. Not complaining as I think this whole license model is just a scam.
  3. Coo Cool stuff. Then not going to renew my CSA Annual license as I think that is a waste of money. Thank you!
  4. Quick question on old thread. Trying to enter 94.7 Ride Joburg. Do I need to have annual CSA license? Or can a day license be purchased? I used to have an annual CSA license but that has expired. I checked now on CSA website and it is R325 annually for normal license and you MUST belong to a club (which I do not - why should I be forced?) Do I really need an CSA license for the few events I may do a year (mostly ofroad MTB events). I also noticed that on Ride Joburg FAQ it states: The entry fee of R675.00 includes VAT and a CSA rider levy. What is rider levy?
  5. Congrats @WaldoZ Super achievement!
  6. Tx @TyronLab. I too am gobsmacked at the speed of the winners. Do they even stop?? My son was (and still is) in pain, but he has not stopped smiling since we finished. I could not be prouder of him! What a privilege! We finished in just over 13h30m so am very chuffed personally.
  7. Transbaviaans 2023 - done and dusted! Few points: 1. It was hot as hell. After training during winter was not quite accustomed to near 30 degrees temps. But compared to last year - I am not complaining. A blast of a day. Hardly a wind to talk about. Could not have asked for better weather conditions. Had a few drops of rain towards Jeffreys - but hardly worth talking about. 2. Road Condition. WOW, am I smiling!!!! Think it was the best I have ever experienced. A few places there are corrugations but easy to avoid and when we encountered them was really not that bad. A few downhills especially after MAC you must really just be careful. There are some rain ruts that can easily cause an unfortunate issue. Be careful. Many stretches felt like riding on a highway. 3. Perhaps just me but I found MAC concrete strips really not that bad. In fact, I think it was better than previous years. But that could just be my imagination. Nonetheless, was easy riding up MAC. Not referring to gradient (that remiansa hard climb!!!) - just referring to road condition. 4. Water crossings. Found it drier than previous years. Most crossings just a little stream. Water crossing after braaivleis checkpoint was quite long. DO NOT waste your time with dry socks. One of our team riders clipped out in front of me so had a nice long walk through the crossing. Through the reserve there were a few proper MUD pools. Will definitely demand ankle deep riding through - BUT very easily traversable. Mostly just muddy water - not actual mud. 5. Single track at end. Not muddy at all. Very dry. It may still rain this week but for us was perfect riding all the way. Except for very tired legs found it no issue at all. 6. Food stops. Perfect! Oh boy did I love those sosaties! Wish I was less tired and could eat more! Did spend a bit too much time there. Let me know if there are any other questions and I will gladly answer. for the Repeat - enjoy it. It was a blast for me and one of the best ever!
  8. Lovely summary and after having done 6...I 100% concur. Make an effort to enjoy this. It is an adventure not a race.
  9. Made it 25km out and called it quits last year. Cold and freezing and wet ...but this year looks perfect. Seems no winter kit at all needed. Will still pack it in. But unlikely to use at this stage.
  10. Just got last mail from EcoBound. Seems it is back to box hand in for CP#5 on Friday night with boxes for CP#3&4 on Saturday morning. Thought is was still all boxes on Friday night.
  11. Stars are lining up and looks all perfect for this weekend. In fact looks VERY warm 😊
  12. And looks like a hardtail. Ouch! Kudos and respect for finishing last year! Go for that shield. Got mine and it is a truly special feeling! Just need to do one more with my son....last year was the plan. Did not work out. This year so far - it looks like all systems GO! And I agree - forget the pain - forget the % gradient. Yes it hurts - but it is so worth it! The Kloof itself - WOW ! Scenery is spectacular!
  13. You will love it! It is truly a special event!!
  14. Do not see a thread for this year's event. So let me kick it off - we can give feedback and updates - especially for the Repeat event next week (19 Aug). Only few days left: 1. Seen hints of road surface scraped - whoop whoop! 2. Weather so far - looking good. In fact - VERY PLEASANT! I was one of the unlucky and unhappy plenty that had to abandon last year. Was not able to continue cycling as a popsicle. So, I get to give it another bash with my son this year - unfinished business. Our first TB together... what a privilege! 3. Not a lot of rain in last two weeks - so may have dry conditions throughout - especially hoping so for last few km next to train tracks. Oh...and I believe burgers at finish is BACK. Yeah! To all other entrants like me that cannot wait - enjoy your ride. Training is done. Have a few beers and enjoy every second!
  15. Same here - 99% FulGaz. Can do 1 or 2 rides on Zwift - then turn away again. FulGaz needs little hardware - Zwift demands more oemph - especially if you want semi good graphics.
  16. Hmm....For now just an ambassador...is there a next step? Perhaps too big a risk. He retired, came back, retired again. Most teams may be hesitant to back him. Every year the pro-peloton demands more, both mentally and physically. But did he have talent..OH HELL YEAH! Imagine a TdF with an in form Pogacar, Vingegaard, Evenepoel and Dumoulin.
  17. For any person this is a massive traumatic event. Even if there are no physical injuries - mental /emotional recovery could take a very long time. It must have been HELL scary. This is such a sad state of affairs. I really do not want to give u the sport I am utterly in love with. BUT...family and safety come first.
  18. Holy s******!!!!! This is crazy! I ride around there often! I was not 1 km from there on Sat morning in a group of just 3 (Koffiepit and back). What a relieve no one got shot!! It could have been so much worse. It is very close to St George's Motel right? seems it was close to main road. They were likely waiting for some riders
  19. Morning All - heard via the grapevine there was a mass attack on a group of at least 10 cyclists this weekend just outside Midstream (Centurion). Apparently 8 armed individuals confronted this large group without any fear and got away with several bicycles. Heard reports of some injuries but details are scarce. Is this true? Are groups the size of 10 just outside a major estate already unsafe???? If true - this makes me sick to the stomach!!
  20. Need some advice around Zwift settings: Power estimation mode (Classic vs zPower) - do not quite understand. I am using a Kick v5 - thus smart trainer with all the goodies built in. Do I select zPower? Power display - 3 secs vs Instant - How does one choose? Tx in advance.
  21. I see website still indicates 5am rolling start.......Hmmm......
  22. 😁 - just wear a green writs band - all solved! Nah - I make a point of moving watch during shower to clean all those little hidden areas - especially after a ride. What I can tell you....like a cool nice cycling t-shirt tan on your arms - well, take my watch off and there is a really obvious much more white than other areas circular mark on my wrist.
  23. take it off for a shower...why? I wear mine 24x7 and every two weeks or so take it off for one hour to charge.
  24. Agree - downside is that price tag limits it to the top 5% of a population...whereas the people they may need it the most will likely never be able to afford it.
  25. Hmm - interesting. Looks like the major diff is bigger screen, built in ECG (currently disabled) and updated HR sensor (not like the current one is giving me any issues). The rest seems to just be software which I suspect will come down to existing watches anyway. With a price tag of $1100 for Sapphire/Titanium - I can only imagine what this will cost locally. I guess around R24k - R26K? That is insane!!
