  1. Perhaps also because you got the watch which would be a little useless without the iPhone?
  2. They've taken the app off the app store entirely now. It'll only be back once they've fixed the problems. I thought if I deleted and downloaded it'd work, now no app at all
  3. Me neither, I use mine and my wife's at the gym, we've got a group going so we get two each when everyone hits their goal. I go to the gym three times a week, so it funds my after workout smoothie. I saw on the website that they donated R250K to Endurocad, it says: "Well done for contributing to our quarter million Rand donation to Endurocad!" "For getting active last week, your fitness points have helped to support future Olympic athletes." Seems we forfeited our smoothies and coffee for a good cause. I'm sure they told us, but having never read too much of their marketing garb, I probably missed it. If this is the case, I'm OK with that.
  4. Yup, but the site says it's seen the workouts, just not allocated the points.
  5. Blitzboks travelling reserve Francois Hougaard has received warm praise for offering his medal to injured team-mate Seabelo Senatla who was forced to miss the bronze medal match... http://www.sport24.co.za/OtherSport/Olympics2016/hougaard-senatla-deserved-my-bronze-medal-20160812 What champ, never really my favourite Bok, but this is a great gesture.
  6. I had a lengthy negotiation this week on an item I was selling. We couldn't agree on a price and in the interim, I received an offer for what I was prepared to accept. Only option was to give original "purchaser" first right of refusal. He declined and so I moved forward with the higher offer. I have sold three items on the classifieds this week, two paid prior to shipping, one shipped today, the other for collection next week. The third paid upon delivery as it was delivered in person. There were one or two jokes about incurring "Hub Wrath" and one purchaser even said don't rush to send to Postent branch as he was only collecting end of next week. For me, the sooner it's in transit, the better. Someone acts in good faith, the least I could do is return the favour. Hub honour is what makes the bulk of Hub transactions easy. What scares me, is that @Craig 26 above only has 10 posts and is already honourable. This is just counterintuitive
  7. I just took my Sapphire Titanium to Navworld due to a battery issue. It took less time to replace the unit, no questions asked, than it did to drive there. I live 10 mins away. Which ever you go for, there may be occasional issues, but Garmin always backs up their gear.

    Who remembers?

Wife died recently, long illness, can't recall what it was. Seems she's on the market again ladies...

    Who remembers?

This: Is now this: I remember a mate of mine came to school with a Scope(stolen from his dad) in which she was featured. I don't think he ever got it back .That magazine was seen intermittently changing hands around school for months. She's now 50.

    Who remembers?

I'm sure anyone who went there has many stories that shouldn't be repeated in public. Man I loved that place. Still remember when cover charge went from R5 to R10, it was the beginning of the end for me, beers were only around R3, so that was two beers extra for cover charge. Put it out of my affordability range until my older brother realised he trained at the same gym as some of the bouncers. Then it was all good again...
  11. You beat me to it, I was out trying to earn my points when this was sent. Having said that, I just squeezed past the 90,000 points required for retention of Diamond status for the year.
  12. This week I've done the following: 5km hike 1hrs40mins @ 53% = 100pts (sight seeing and photo in-between that time) 2500m swim - 46mins @ 74% = 100pts 2000m swim - 37mins @ 72% = 100pts 1hr16mins spinning @ 67% = 100pts 41 mins running @ 78% = 100pts Still trying to figure out the point calculation specifics. So now, I miss my goal...
  13. Surely it's for the bike?
  14. Myles, my approach was always to get them to pay unless they offered a viable reason as to why the doctor's advice on treatment was wrong, which was to have been communicated to the client. In the case of the Iraq disability, I got the client to agree to have the additional premium that would have been charged in the event of cover in Iraq deducted from the claim amount paid. Client first, this was a 23 year old guy who was left paralysed as a result of a sand storm. I need to sleep at night and it would have been hard if I had not tried everything within my power to make it happen!
  15. The broker is key in these cases. In my time with Discovery, as an independent, I managed to have experimental and at that time unproved medical treatment paid for on behalf of one of my clients. It took around two or three months of research on my part(I now know almost all there is to know about Rheumatoid Arthritis), but not only did they pay but now include it as an approved treatment @ R75K a shot, in this case administered every three months. I also managed to have a disability claim paid by discovery for a disability that occurred in Iraq, when Iraq was specifically excluded. The broker does not work for the insurer, he works for the client and as a result, should fight for the client no matter what. The bottom line is, as I mentioned before, get your broker to earn his income, all insurers are open to paying for treatment and other claims if it is properly justified, and that justification should be pushed by the broker!!!
  16. The long winded post above is just an indication of my experiences from "the other side of the fence" when it comes to Discovery and their program, as well as a technical outlook in terms of the insurance aspect of Vitality. You'll note that the bulk of my posts on this thread relate to administrative problems as opposed to problems with the program itself. This is not an about turn but an opinion in terms of where members often fall short when taking advantage of what's on offer, often due to a lack of adequate understanding. Their admin still sucks as I've still not been awarded points where I should have, but that is not an endorsement of the program's faults or features but rather a negative endorsement on the part of the admin jockeys running the thing.
  17. So I've been bitching a lot lately on this thread, however, I don't think Discovery is to blame! They communicate their term very well and quite frequently. If you happen to miss a mail/update, we should go onto the website perhaps? Two years ago, the payback from my life cover product paid for two children's private school fees for a year! Why? Because I "worked" "the system. Got the points, did the exercise etc.... I have never paid for an iPod! We have 6 in the the house, yes, six. Why, well Discovery paid for them all! I have gained a lot of benefit from the whole Discovery/Vitality thing. It is not difficult, if you maintain the right lifestyle, to gather maximum points and benefits from Vitality. But the benefits are immense! How do i know this? Well, since the dawn of Discovery and subsequently, Vitality, I was an independent broker One of the products I offered was Discovery. I learnt the system and went out selling the product. The thing is, when it came to a client that I knew would not have the discipline to milk the system, I offered something else. Why, because Discovery offers really good value until you stop looking after yourself! Those clients who I knew would not attend to fitness etc, I would go for the conventional option and they would remain my clients. Those who were keen and motivated etc., to "work the system" I would put on Discovery and there would be no problem. The bottom line is I could have shafted clients and offered Discovery upfront, but would have lost clients very quickly. Usually within the first year or two, or, I could have ensured that I was selling to the correct client! The problem is, Discovery does a very good job at marketing, however, when it comes to the client's understanding of the product, something fails. In my case it was simple. If I failed to inform and get buy-in from the client at inception, there would be comebacks and unhappy clients. In my option, the broker is mostly to blame with the client following on a very close second. The broker's responsibility is to educate their client and ensure that their final selected product is taken out based on an informed decision. It's thee broker's job to ensure that the client is adequately informed! However, surely the client should ensure that they are adequately informed as well? Discovery does what they promise to do!!! Was doesn't happen is the broker informs or educates the client adequately and the client fails to take ownership of the responsibility to ensure that they are taking the right product for them. Sure, Discovery should sort their sh±t out and fix their IT. But frankly, and we are all guilty of this infraction at some point, we should all take ownership of the fact that we took a product or took advantage of an offer that we failed to investigate effectively. Do you read the warranty on your helmet, bike, accessories (how many threads are on this very forum where the terms where not fully read/attended to/ understood?).... Surely a free Apple Watch and the other cr±p Discovery offered us doesn't come free? The fact of the matter is, if we are active and energetic and earn our fitness points etc., the theme not only saves money and therefore keeps our premiums down, but also gathers important information into how their costing system works, based on how often we exercise, our cholesterol level, blood pressure etc. etc. etc. This provides us with a more accurate cost for out medical aid and life cover etc. Make no mistake, the information Discovery gathers from our workouts and health checks is invaluable. They use this data is ways only actuaries will understand and they use this to ensure that not only can they cater properly for the times when we break our collar bone on the trails or hit the clown who is under investigation in and around the cradle for doing dodgy sh±t, but they also do so to ensure that they make a profit. A PROFIT? Surely you don't expect them to work for free? Well, yes, they make a profit from buying us Apple Watches and other nice items via their "super rewarding credit card" and all the other "free stuff" they give us. Why, because by us using all this free stuff, they are able to care for us better, price our care more effectively, offer us "huge discounts".... How? Well, they gather the data they need in order to do so. From where? from the devices and benefits they offer us for free and those that they encourage us to use. for the record, I last sold a Discovery product over three and some change years ago. Since then I have no longer been in the industry and have been a mere consumer of these products. However, my time in this industry has taught me to ensure that i know what I am buying. As result, many of my insurance products still lie with Discovery, and as long as i am in a position to milk their system, they will remain there! The bottom line, after this long winded post which has left me exhausted, is that we should take responsibility for the "deals" we make use of and ensure that we understand what is required of use in order to make it worth our while. I am yet to pay more than a week or two for the Apple Watch I sold on Gumtree today, but I must say that I get more benefit from these guys, doing what I love (MTB, running, swimming.....) than the watch would have cost me in the first place! IN SHORT: Investigate the deal before you rush in and make sure you're prepared to stick to your side of the bargain!!! BTW: I'm still pissed that I have to send my data through, but I get two free coffee a week and a free Apple Watch. This happens once every few months, perhaps it's worth it!!!!!!!!!! EDIT: The data they gather from us using our free stuff is more accurate than any data Discovery could buy from outside sources. They are sampling their own client base and therefore are able to not only encourage their members to live a healthier lifestyle, but also to get a far more accurate costing model for their own group's medical care. It's actually genius, the only problem they encounter is the members who really think they are getting free stuff! It's only free if you ensure you fit into their model in terms of activity levels etc. But then they told us that, we just couldn't hear that over the noise in the Apple Watch queue at the iStore on launch day....
  18. Agreed, although the happy owner of my Apple Watch just collected and paid cash. Sold in a morning. Gotta know who to take seriously. I always offer to meet at the nearest police station and those who are for real agree, Michael Jackson would rather have paid R2K in shipping.
  19. I sent them the links to my Garmin Connect and they replied saying they are not permitted to open links due to security concerns. So I took some screen shots and sent them 30MB file with the relevant information. That should clog up their server for a little bit at least. On an aside note, they must be doing something right, I advertised my Apple Watch on Gumtree and none other than Michael Jackson contacted me to see if it was still available. He even offered to add R2,000 to the price for shipping. What a lekker guy
  20. I've just sent them screen shots of my last three workouts because the data did not make it to Discovery. I've even achieved over 10K steps on some days recently that have not been noted. As I mentioned earlier, I've only got about 3K points to go before retaining Diamond, but it's the watch that I now have to pay for. Anyone want to buy an Apple Watch while I'm at it? I never use the thing and it's just gathering dust. I'll even throw in a water proof casing that costs around R900 as part of the deal. Make an offer, you know you want to.... EDIT: Clarifying the device for sale
  21. Just ran 43 mins @ 82% average and the only acknowledgement of any exercise for today is <10,000 steps, "Insufficient activity to earn points" As a family we're only 3,000 point from retaining Diamond for the year, but it's the weekly Apple Watch cost that now becomes important. What a pain in the ass....
  22. Just wear your device whilst you get busy with the Mrs, and hope you can hold on for 30 mins?
  23. Yesterday I went for a 6km walk with my wife was was awarded 100 points. It took around 50mins. Today, I go for a spinning class and work pretty hard, for over and hour and get 100 points. I'm still battling with this rating system here.
  24. They call it "hump day"...
