  1. Anyone know how to change the title of a topic they have started?
  2. That does make sense, I'll have a look at the Garmin info today. GCT balance etc. I'm meeting with the podiatrist today to hash this out. He's a sports/running specialist and came highly recommended by a biokineticist and a physio, but time will tell. There has been quite a bit of pressure on the arch since getting the inserts, but not too bad, even though a little bit of blistering did occur. The worrying thing here is that the blistering started quite early into the run, and having run a few 10's/11's already, I can't understand why they started at around that point? Let's see. Perhaps Stretch is onto something.

    Rugby...

I must say, we had flashes of brilliance we haven't for a while. But they were just flashes. Lambie has been out of rugby for some time and showed more composure that Elton has all season. Having said this, his kicking and cool head under pressure are some of his key skills and his kicking let us down. He made some try creating decisions, but should have been better with the boot from the spot. An enjoyable game nonetheless. 10 tries and a draw is quite exciting rugby to watch these days!
  4. My 21km Soweto was pretty good. I've been battling shin issues for a little over a year now and have had inserts in my shoes and very slow build up to 10km runs over the last few weeks etc. So, when I took my 8yr old for a Parkrun yesterday, I thought it would be a perfect opportunity to "wiggle the legs" a bit. She thought running would be good and managed a 48min run. Very proud, but I came out feeling that I may have aggravated my shins a bit. So rubs 'n ice etc for the last 24hrs it was. Today, I applied all manner of potions to my legs and hit the race with tender shins for the first 4km's, but kept a slow pace, hoping to make 2:30 with no injury. Halfway, I was on track, having 1:10 for 11km. But my feet were feeling a bit "off". Anyway, I was pacing in the right direction. Feet hurt like hell for 10km, but I finished, with more walking than planned, in 2:29. Feet still killing me. So I buy the carb overload combination at the event and drive home to remove my shoes. Upon doing so, I have, on my right foot, a 5x2cm blister under the arch and a less dramatic 2x2cm one on my left. My shins BTW are awesome, so I'm still calling progress here, but what on earth is suddenly causing blisters when I've used the same shoes, same sock type (Falke L/R running socks)? Really miffed. (Shoes only have 430km on them after today) A bitter/sweet run this. Managed a longer run for the first time in over a year without leg issues, but suddenly have gaping blisters on the under side of my feet. I didn't even get a single blister on my last two 42km Soweto runs. Any ideas here? For info purposes, my shoes did appear to be a little wetter than usual when getting home. I'm lost for words, I'm pretty fit having dropped the smokes for the last few weeks, and have exercised well and for a bit too, now an issue that I've not experienced since 2011... WTF! Please, any advice would help...
  5. You said he was indicating to turn right and yet you took the gap anyway? Would that not rest any liability with you?
  6. Weather looking pretty slick for Sunday. doing the half, I should be done by 09h00. Good luck to all those participating.
  7. Now those guys were proper runners. Have a look at the types of shoes they used to run in in those days, we've become soft.
  8. That's a shocker, look after you bro and keep living life and stay positive, you've got loads of peeps right here looking forward to celebrating your return to good health.
  9. So it's Friday, I also found it funny and to me it sounded like a bit of a tongue in cheek take on things. I've only quite smoking for around two weeks now and run marathons and other long haul events, don't grill him for that. Although I'd rather ride, time does not allow for as much riding as it does for running, so that's where the foot parade comes in. My ass still hurts on anything over 2hrs, but hey, to be on the bike, it's worth it many times over. IMHO of course...
  10. But I want my Discovery Smoothie and it's attached to my shoe [emoji25][emoji25][emoji25][emoji25]
  11. My issue is, not so much that they could pull me off. I wouldn't mind an official time, although it's not a must but my timing chip is registered for the 42km, would there be an issue with my time showing I've run a 2:10 marathon? How would this bode for my entry into other events if I'm thought to have cheated? Possibly a bit paranoid, but worth asking?
  12. Awesome deal(56% off) on the 920XT, can't go wrong with this either: http://www.clevertraining.com/garmin-forerunner-920xt-multisport-fitness-watch I've bought from these guys before and they're pretty jacked up. On a side note, I've collected my Soweto Marathon race pack. I tried to arrange the downgrade to 21km, but was told no. The lady did say that I should just drop back and start with the 21km runners, but a marshal could possibly take me off the course if he was vigilant. Any ideas?
  13. Soweto was my first marathon, it's a great race, but very tough. I was given some advice leading up to the race that was invaluable. Save yourself for the second half, there are a lot of tough uphills at the end and the first half is easier, making it easy to keep your pace high only to have little left in the tank (especially from around 30km onwards). It frustrated me on my first and I didn't heed the advice. It ended up biting me in the @ss in the end. As for the liquids etc., take R200 or so with you. You'll run past a lot of little shops etc. where if need be, you can buy cokes etc. It'll also help when hitting the end, parking is quite a way from the start(although the start is in a different place this year), but you'll wanna buy beer and food once done and you won't wanna go back to the car to fetch cash. Have fun, the people on this run are great.
  14. That's assuming Dirty Mike is sucking on his Gu as he passes the cone bin! IMHO, the only thing that will stop littering is the individual's respect for his/her environment and the fact that it's probably not their land they'r riding on but rather someone who's kindly lent it out for their use. A box will be a box, I've seen loads of litter right next to empty dustbins before. The problem is the people, not the opportunities for them to behave properly.
  15. I have had both and to be honest, use my pool almost every day, except the really cold winter months. Build it, those fibreglass pools are very difficult to get 100% right and if you don't you'll have loads of problems. Get a surface skimmer and a neutral floater with a kreepy and you'll do very little hands on maintenance at all. I swim in summer, twice a day at least and in winter, maybe just a quick soak after heavy exercise. You'll k@k off with the winter thing, but it beats having to ice the legs after a long run...
  16. What a lekker looking location to ride in.
  17. Never mind the first two tables, they ran out of water at 30km. Temperatures neared 35-40deg and they had no water for the last 25% of the race. They're full of shite, the vibe is incredible, that's why I'm so keen to do even the 21km.
  18. I'm pissed about this no downgrade thing. I've been battling injury for the whole year and am now ready to run a 21km run. Not a 42km by a long shot. I am however, entered into the 42km run as I thought I'd be able to pull it off. What would stop me from running the 21km with a 42km number? I really don't need an official time, but I'd like to do the event as it's been a target for me since entering and I'd be properly bummed to miss it. As for the food, I try to go for a coke, closely followed by a beer and a burger where possible. Used to be a cigarette as well, but I'm proud to say that I've been clean for two weeks and I'm certain it'll stick this time. I've had zero cravings, so far.
  19. Looking at the significant feature difference as well as the $200 premium charged by Suunto, I cannot understand why one wouldn't go for the Garmin. It also happens to be a far better looking unit imho...
  20. On very long rides, I use the Lobo and it's great. 3l and plenty space for the tools so I don't look like a roadie.
  21. I use Nimbus, I've had Mk 13 and I'm on my second pair of 17's with around 200km to go before they need replacing. It's a neutral shoe, so may not be good for you, but if you're a neutral runner, these are the bomb. I keep my old running shoes for hiking etc. and I alway wonder why they're getting replaced(I replace @ 700km, I weigh over 90kg, so they take a pounding), because they look new. That is until I try the new ones... Get a pro to scope you out and they'll advise accordingly. EDIT: Just checked out Poobie Naidoo, R1,200 for a pair of Nimbus 17's? That's crazy cheap. I use my Discovery Miles and discount to buy my shoes, with vouchers etc. The last pair of Asics was listed at R2,200, I only paid R600 out of my pocket after discounts and Discovery Miles, so Poobie's still expensive there.
