  1. As you can see, it doesn't take much to make me wanna ride...
  2. Will they come in blue, I want one.
  3. We have a a small pooch and two cats. Unfortunately, one of our little moggies was hit by a car in August and didn't make it. My daughter was destroyed, saying that he was an even better friend to her than some of her school mates. We then adopted this little fella from a sanctuary and he's fitted in the the tribe beautifully. He does, however, seem to dislike sleeping on his side or tummy and I always seem to find him twisted around like the below, apparently, one of the sinks in our kitchen seems to be a comfy stop, this has created some problems given that the older kitty will only drink from a tap or the pool, not a bowl, ever, and this is her favorite drinking hole:
  4. Nice idea, let's hope it takes off in more areas.
  5. PM sent.
  6. Agreed, they were initially not optimistic about the outcome given the age, they also said the automatic mechanism would be tough to sort out, but they managed to make a plan. I think the strap was not the original as I believe it originally came with a metal bracelet. But when faced with a charge of close to R10K just for the strap, I decided against it. They also said that this colour gold would be difficult to match, so it would look a bit off. All in all, I'm very chuffed with the result.
  7. My old man passed away 13 years ago and left a void as one would expect. Whilst he did not own much of any real value, he did own the watch below which was his 21st birthday gift from his dad. I wore it for a long time but gave up after it lost loads of time. It has been in my cupboard for over 10 years. Last year I decided to have it looked at and hopefully restored. The jeweler sent it off to the Omega supplier in SA who immediately asked if he could send it to Omega in Switzerland given the age etc. Well, I collected it yesterday and was overjoyed to see, new strap, new crown, new glass, full internal refurbishment and a proper polish and general clean up. The watch is back to what they said, would be the same condition and functionality as the day it was first purchased. You can see the engraving on the back with my dad's initials and the date of his 21st birthday - 7-11-63. This makes the watch 51 yrs old on Friday...
  8. I could be suffering from a bit of placebo effect, but I use compression socks during running only (calf muscle only and not whole foot). The reason being that I started getting pains in my inside shins. Check-ups with doctors and physios could not find any injuries, however, the pain became so extreme that I stopped running for months. I now use them only during runs and the pain has disappeared. Whilst I have not recaptured my former running "glory" I achieved prior to the pain starting out, I do not feel this pain any longer. The only thing I changed was the utilization of the compression gear. Having said that, most of the literature I've read seems to promote the benefit as a recovery tool as opposed to use during exercise, when I started using them, around a year ago, I was not willing to amble around the office in those things for the period required and I had read that it should be either during or after, not both. So, if it's in the mind, so be it. But I'm going to continue using them for the foreseeable future because the use of these items seems to have removed a great deal of discomfort and pain I have experienced. User it, don't use it.... EDIT: More comments...
  9. Lego was boss. I also loved Meccano, the cranes etc. were the best. I kept all of my Lego and now manage to fill, with my kid's collection, one of those huge black boxes that many use for their cycling gear when travelling etc. with the bike. Me and my two girls, the boy is too old now, play with it almost every weekend. The plans are long lost, but we build anyway, whatever we can make that stands up
  10. If I were waiting for that train with that view, I'd prefer not to sleep!
  11. It seems as if quoting another post does not show that it's a quote, it just looks like there's an echo. Not sure I'm into this change of side!
  12. Next it'll have neon lights at the bottom! 3.7% from the nose & 7% from the other thread (http://www.thehubsa....16#entry2419566), that's a lot more power! Hell, who needs to train?
  13. I saw an add/special advertised on their site some time last year and mailed them the query as I had my credit card out and ready for a hiding. I'm still waiting for a reply. I suppose it's like everything, you get 'em on a good day and they're great. Before I get flamed, I am sometimes the same way!
  14. For the more expensive items I use DHL, it arrives in a few days and you know you'll get it. As for the rest, I take my chances with the cheaper option.
  15. Your battery could be on the way out. I've heard, with Polar especially, that this sometimes registers spikes. Otherwise, as above, the static is a problem mostly in winter. When I used a Polar in winter, I used to ride with a 100% cotton T-shirt under my cycle top, partly to keep warmer, but also to get a more accurate HR reading.
  16. I've also been told that running assists with bone density where cycling and swimming will not. My physio said to me after a broken ankle that some running is not a bad idea, just be careful though because injuries due to over training are far more common with runners that with cyclist of almost any discipline. Did I mention that I quite enjoy running (flame suit on)! I suppose balance is the key here as with most other things in life.
  17. sheesh, you're a hard sell. I would have gone for a free tubeless conversion! Under the right circumstance, you could have picked up a couple of Chinarello's at a fire sale in Broadacres for that price!
  18. Double post...
  19. Maybe a good idea if one is using a GPS cycle computer or GPS enabled phone, when riding an area on your own, perhaps take note of your position or set up a way point or something similar in order to find your way home in the event of becoming lost? Glad he's found!
  20. When are these taxis going to be reigned in? I'm so sick of seeing this sort of cr~p in the news. Taxis kill people from all walks of life and at some point, the "powers that be" need to take some sort of decisive action. Even if they were all new and roadworthy, the way they are driven contributes almost daily towards lives being lost. RIP fellow cyclist and more importantly, somebody's loved one.
  21. I have a mate who uses the stuff they put onto cow's nipples before attaching the milking apparatus. it has a small amount of local anesthetic in it. I used it once and I must say, it works. I'll try find the name of the stuff and post it later
  22. They suing the OP for R450K? How many Chinarello deals fell through then because of this publicity?
  23. I carry a spare tube and some self adhesive patches in case the tube doesn't manage to get me home. Never needed to patches until yesterday at NF when I came across some Diepsloot development riders who needed them. I was close to the end of my ride, so I gave them the whole lot. I did however notice that I was losing air whilst waiting for my egg roll at the end and wound up having to plug three unsealed punctures when I got home. Patches take up no space and weigh nothing. Even if it's being prepared for those who aren't, I try to carry as much as my saddlebag (yes, saddlebag - ) can accommodate.
  24. Reminds me of the chirp by Daryl Cullinan. As we know, he was notoriously bad at facing Shane Warne. so one day as he made it to the crease, Warne said to him that he'd been waiting for the showdown down some time, to which Cullinan replied "Yes, and it looks like you've been spending most of that time eating"
  25. lols, I have two daughters who like to play nail salon. So on occasion, I allow my toe nails to be painted. Usually, they need to take it off right away, but the last time was during winter, so I thought it wouldn't be a problem. Any how, I needed to go and fetch my son on a winters afternoon and decided to throw on a pair of flops. When I arrived at his friends house the friends old man, who I knew, gave me a very dodgy look. I thought it a bit rude but carried on. Two days later, I broke my ankle. When the doctor took my sock off the injured foot she took one look at my toes and said, wow, that's pretty. Only then did I figure out why my son's mate's old man had looked at me skeef a few days before.
