  1. I think that's just a bit of dirt and reflection, the roller is in perfect shape. The semi-slick contact surface is no different from a road tyre.
  2. The cost and some details are at the bottom of the article: The CycleOps PowerSync is available from Bicycle Power Trading either via their dealers in your area or direct on their website. Retail price: R11,595 That's a tough one, I enjoy Wattbike training, but usually in a class environment. The Wattbike also gives more power metrics, e.g. left / right balance. The CycleOps is convenient for me for home use though: it's far easier to store and move between rooms. If I had the space and budget I'd probably go for both, but given space and budget limitations the CycleOps is my choice for home use. As an aside: I enjoyed the CycleOps so much that I opted to purchase it after the review. Initially I too was a bit hesitant based on the price, but after using it I can see that it will be a hugely valuable training tool for me.
  3. With the Tour de France having come and gone so too has our Fantasy Tour competition. As we settle back into our "normal", productive lives, here's a recap of the winners for this year's Fantasy Tour. Click here to view the article
  4. This is what they say on their website: The resistance mechanisms in them are very similar and the main difference is the frame. The PowerBeam Pro has a wider footprint leading to more stability on the trainer and it is also able to fit 29er tires.
  5. If you’re anything like me indoor training can be a bit of a chore, but often the sensible option to supplement training through winter. Even with a decent trainer and the distraction of TVs or iPads, I quickly get bored and uncomfortable. Enter the CycleOps PowerSync and their Virtual Training software. Click here to view the article
  6. I'm not sure what the other models have, but the key advantage of Sapphire glass is improved scratch resistance. So far the Silver edition I'm testing still has a pristine screen and from the reports I've read it's pretty resilient when it comes to scratches & scuffs. Edit: The other models use "standard mineral glass". Sapphire glass is a much harder material and more resilient.
  7. Most sports watches I’ve owned have always shared a few common traits: they’re bulky, plasticy and generally a bit nerdy looking. Garmin’s fenix range of GPS multi-sport watches have changed all that. Their latest edition, the fenix 3, has been strapped to my wrist for the last month and as far as watches go, never mind sports watches, it’s a looker. Click here to view the article

  12. It's the first rest day in the 2015 Tour de France and with it comes the chance for you to bring in some substitutes. While the riders take a bit of a day "off" you've got some serious thinking to do. Click here to view the article
  13. A total of 102 entrants chose Team BMC as the winners for the Stage 9 TTT. The winner of the Sigma Rox 10.0 GPS, as chosen by random draw, is: timM - timM's team
  14. No, we'll only count those who submitted a complete entry (9 riders + 4 teams). In the spirit of the Lantern Rouge in the Tour we'll be awarding our last placed qualifying team for this one... note the head and tail light as part of the prize.
  15. Although Valverde didn't pull through for you, Griepel did as the green jersey leader. Gerald has just done the draw and announced you as the winner of the Giro Empire SLX shoes! Congrats!

It is the Backtracker, developed in Stellenbosch, Our review of that device from 2014: https://www.bikehub.co.za/features/_/gear/reviews/review-backtracker-r1588 News of the Garmin acquisition from Jan this year: https://www.bikehub.co.za/features/_/news/garmin-acquires-stellenbosch-based-backtracker-bike-radar-r1907
  17. Trek have unveiled their new hardtail race machine dubbed the Procaliber SL. Most notably the Procaliber features Trek's ride smoothing IsoSpeed decoupler similar to what what is used in their Domane road bikes. The Procaliber SL also introduces some very nifty cable routing which Trek are calling "Control Freak". Click here to view the article
  18. We were lucky enough to receive the much hyped Garmin fenix 3 for review recently. The fenix 3 is Garmins’s do-all sports watch touted as an “Uncompromising Multisport Training GPS Watch”. It includes the Altimeter, Barometer and Compass functions one would expect in such a device along with GPS / GLONASS and GPS navigation, WiFi, Bluetooth, ANT+ and the list goes on. 19. The Isuzu Trucks PE Plett Mountain Bike stage race is in its third year of existence and Isuzu Truck South Africa is once again proud to be the title sponsor. The race extends over a four-day period and a distance of 340 kilometres, from Port Elizabeth to Plettenberg Bay, so training for a race of this nature takes a lot of time and effort in trying to successfully complete the tough route. Isuzu Trucks struck a chord with cyclists in April when they announced a competition as a lead-up to this year’s Isuzu Trucks PE Plett Mountain Bike stage race. Click here to view the article
  20. Hi everyone, Finally, the moment you've all been waiting for..... The winners of the Isuzu Trucks Endurance Challenge.... Manie RedelinghuysGraham PearsonClive GarrettNicole Dale Kuys(3 out of the 4 are registered Hubbers) Congrats to the winners and well done to all those who took part. We will publish a formal press release soon with the official announcement and details of the impressive numbers participants racked up during the challenge. It was great to hear feedback and see the enthusiasm from everyone taking part. I do understand the frustrations regarding the delays in communicating the results. It is something that we'll address in future editions. Thanks again to all who've taken part. Matt
  21. Hi all, My apologies for the delay. While we (The Hub) administered the competition from a technical point of view, we have not been involved in the draw process. I do know that the draw was done early this week and the winners would have been contacted via email by 22 May 2015 at the latest. As the T&C's do mention, there is a 72 hour window within which those winners must respond after which another winner would be selected. Although I was hoping to have the final results to publish on Friday I expect that we will have them tomorrow. As soon as that lands in my inbox I promise you'll all be the first to know! Thanks for your patience Matt
  22. They'll contact winners via email - the one used on your Strava account. I've asked for the list to post here and will do so as soon as it lands in my inbox

  24. Hi everyone, All badges should be up to date now. Let me know if you're still not seeing any on your profile that should be there. I'll get some updated overall stats to you a little later this morning. Thanks, Matt
  25. Hi all, The badges are updated by continually automated processes. There's been quite a flood of badge updates today so there may be some delay. We will run a final check tomorrow to ensure badges have been allocated before finalizing the draw candidates.
