  2. Yes these are great - around R900 - R1300 depending on where you shop. Don't be too fooled though. You still need a bit of space to manouvre around them when loading and unloading. Perhaps better suited for display purposes than "frequent use"
  3. This brings me to a all new topic!!! Why do families need more than one bike each?? Cyclenut I thought my better 1/2 was bad until I read your posting Is this a man thing or have I just missed the plot some where?? Sorry Skye. Just to set the record straight - I'm probably more fanatical than talented. But yes it is getting a bit crowded - I'm trying to find another 5-bike rack to clean things up in the garage - but this will leave a few empty hooks - can you see the dilemna Investing in people is more important than investing in bikes, I spent a fair amountt of last year changing stems and seatposts on 2 bikes etc for people to come and try out the sport. Three or four them have subsequently bought their own bikes, but there's more people interested so this year, to make life easier, the plan is to have a spare of each of the following: 52cm, 54cm, 56cm, 58cm, 60cm. If you have any of these lying around and will accept R2000-R4000 then give me a shout.
  4. Much of a muchness - I use all kinds depending on the space available. Bike Room: Floor stand: Tandem, Road bike, wife's road. I've tried to just leave them on their own but they fall over cos generraly they're 2 tired .... Training Room: Spin Bike (for the wife), Training bike on floor stand next to rollers. Garage: 5 bike rack- vertical - MTB's (lock the suspension first) and track Garage: single verticals- spare road bikes for friends and projects / work in progress Garage: horizontal racks - odd frames - wannabe's and has beens I suspend my MTB's from the from the front wheel - as "nose-down" is not good for hydrolics - remember to lock-out Road bikes suspend from the rear-wheel: just a preference - spare bikes are Alu frames and I'm not comfortable with too much weight on the front drop-outs, they seem to "balance" better this way. Single bike-hooks are also good for wheels bags, spare tires.

I'm currently just builiding it as another spare for wannabe cyclist friends ... but at the same time I'm collecting as near original spec bits and pieces - when I've got the lot it's off-with-the-old , spray the frame and rebuild as a classic wall hanging. Teams of international cyclists who will be descending on Pietermaritzburg for the inaugural international cycling event, the Intaka Tech World?s View Challenge that will take place in the KwaZulu Natal Midlands from 2 ? 7 February, have been announced. Three confirmed UCI teams, Team Barloworld, Liquigas and Milram, will be travelling to compete for both points towards the UCI leader board and prize money to the value of R650,000. Teams that have performed in the International Cycling Union (UCI) tours such as the Tour de France and the Tour de Suisse will be cycling in the picturesque city of Pietermaritzburg and surrounds. Joining the big three names at the starting line are three teams from the African continent: Zambia; Libya and Namibia and they will be cycling alongside local teams: MTN; Konica Minolta; Neotel; a South African National Team and the Intaka Tech Development Team Barloworld team riders are: Robert Hunter (RSA); Daryl Impey (RSA); Christopher Froome (Kenya); Enrico Gasparotto (Ita); Baden Cooke (Aus); Patrick Calcagni (Swi) and Christian Pfannberger (Austria). Liquigas team riders are: Daniele Bennati (Ita); Leonardo Bertagnolli (Ita); Dario Cataldo (Ita); Claudio Corioni (Ita); Roman Kreuzinger (Ita); Vincenzo Nibali (Ita); Franco Pellizotti (Ita); Filippo Pozzato (Ita); Manuel Quinziato (Ita); Frederik Willerns (Ita) and Alessandro Vanotti (Ita). Entries to this prestigious event is still open to the general public and will be on a strict first come, first served basis. Lance Armstrong's Athletic Goals for 2008 I'll give you some examples of effective goals, straight from Lance Armstrong. He emailed his list about a week ago, and though he says he has three goals for 2008, I told him only two of them count so far: 1. Run the Boston Marathon in 2:45:00 on April 21, 2008. 2. Run the New York City Marathon in 2:30:00 on November 2, 2008. 3. Complete an ultra-endurance cycling event. Obviously, it's the third one that doesn't count yet because he hasn't decided on a specific event. I'll let you know when Lance decides exactly what he wants to do. In the meantime, I'm putting together a plan to get him prepared for Boston. Because of the way Lance responds to training, and the complexities of his travel schedule, I've proposed a training camp in March. We both know that taking him out of his everyday schedule for a couple of days is the only way to really focus his attention on the details necessary for him to run a 2:45 marathon in Boston. I also want to hook him up with one of the other top athletes CTS works with; someone who can push him on his training runs. Fortunately, his conditioning is very good right now, and with two NYC Marathons in his legs, he's ready to handle a more intensive running training program. Now you know what we're up to in 2008. What are you going to commit to?

I had the same "no response" issues - very disappointing - managed to secure a good price at the LBS and bought a set for the Clarens tour - as Mampara says- a very neat design - used them on the time trial up "surrender hill" yesterday and had no issues - I'm a bit of a lightweight so I remain worried about the combination of deep section and crosswinds - but on the descent yesterday I felt very comfortable. You will need to purchase tubes with an 80mm valve - and not all of these are threaded for the full 80mm so use a bit of tape to dampen the vibration of the valve on the carbon rim.

  13. Logic will tell you it's better than Sora, but not quite 105 and certainly not Ultegra. I have Tiagra on my tandem and if you're riding the grouppo socially - and not have to do quick seamless shifting then my opinion is don't waste money on the upgrade.
  14. Doped or not - few can argue the fact that he's one of the gutsiest riders of this generation. Alexandre Vinokourov has announced his retirement in the wake of the one-year doping ban he received from the Kazakhstan cycling federation. Vinokourov and his Astana team were kicked out of the 2007 Tour de France after he tested positive for a banned blood transfusion. He was fired by Astana after his B sample confirmed the positive result. He said: "I don't want this sport any more. I'm slamming the door and I'm leaving. I will prove I'm not guilty."

[05.12 14:00] The 2008 Vuelta a Espa?a will contain eight tough mountain stages and just 56km time trialing - of these the 16km are mountain time trialing, so it looks set to be a Grand Tour for the best climbers. It all begins with a seven kilometre team time trial prologue in Granadaand in stage six the peloton will finish in Andorra with a hors cat?gorie climb. The next day sees the riders finish on Pla de Beret and on stage nine from Viella to Sabi??nigo more tough mountains occur before the drop down to the finish. Stage 13 will finish on the grueling Alto de L'Angliru and will be followed by a category 1-finish at E. E. Fuentes de Invierno. The two last mountain stages are stage 19 and 20 finishing in Segovia, after a flat run in to the finish, and Alto de Navacerrada before the ultimate stage to Madrid. The stage to Alto de Navacerrada is a mountain time trial of 16km.

  19. [01.12 20:49] The parcours for the 2008 Giro d'Italia was presented Saturday in Milano and it will start in Palermo, Sicily on May 10 and ends in Milano on June 1 after 3424 kilometres. There will only be 73.3 time trial kilometres, but they will be spread out in four stages: A stage one Palermo team time trial of 28.5km, 36km in stage 10 from Pesaro to Urbino, a mountain TT to Plan de Corones of 13.8km in stage 16 and in the 21st and final stage they will do a TT 23.5km in Milano. There are three mountaintop road stage finishes to finish on Alpe di Pampeago (Val di Fiemme) in stage 14, Passo Fedaia (Marmolada) in stage 15 and Monte Pora in stage 19.
