  8. For future reference: Here'e the route we took. Instead of jumping on the highway, proceed straight and head into town and out the other side. Take the R82 through Walkerville and stay on this road all the way to Southgate. Nasrec is no more than 3km's from Southgate. Total distance =62km.

  10. Tarmac - your timing has been taken from the back-up mat (which always seems to work better than the one on the line) I too crossed the line in the bunch but stopped to catch up with mates before going the medal-chute. Cost - 4 minutes. I've drafted an e-mail to WT but I'm not holding out much hope as it's a common occurence and they rarely seem to act on being challenged. Why don't they just put the back-up mat at the finish line
  11. http://www.news24.com/News24/Sport/More_Sport/0,,2-9-32_2258579,00.html Adelaide - Italian cyclist Elia Rigotto was disqualified from the Tour Down Under on Friday for causing an accident that left Australia's Mathew Hayman with a broken collarbone. Race officials accused the Italian of "headbutting" the Australian in a frantic sprint to the finish line. He was disqualified from the race and fined, although he insisted it was an accident and Hayman accepted his apology. "It was a severe headbutt, a very serious incident," Tour Down Under chief commissaire Michael Robb told Australian Associated Press. "It was one of the worst headbutts I've seen in a very long time." Erik Dekker, the manager of Hayman's team, said the Australian also thought the crash was an accident and he held no grudges against Rigotto. "He (Rigotto) said he had his head down and looked up and his head went into Mat's elbow, he didn't mean it," Dekker said. "He asked 'please let him (Hayman) know, I didn't mean to do it'." The crash was just one of several accidents on Friday's fourth stage of the tour. The stage was won by German Andre Greipel while Australian Mark Renshaw retained the overall lead. cyclenut2008-01-25 06:22:55

  13. Beijing - China has halved the number of bicycles stolen to about 2 million in the past nine months, police said on Thursday, following a campaign to clamp down on theft months before its capital hosts the Olympics. The country, home to a world record 460 million bicycles, has also cracked thousands of bike theft gangs, police officials told a news conference webcast at china.com.cn. "We strongly smashed illegal bicycle theft activities and constrained the growth of new cases," said Ma Weiya, vice-director of the police social security management department. "Our work in these aspects will not let up. We need to see this work through to completion and ensure the problem of bicycle theft is gradually and thoroughly resolved," he said. Must register bikes The government has introduced a system of identification numbers and buyers must register their bikes using their real names as part of efforts to curb widespread theft. Stolen bicycles are so common in some places that people "shrug off the losses" rather than reporting them to police, Ma said, adding that the campaign hoped to change that situation. China used to be known as a nation of bikes, until market reforms and a rapidly expanding middle class began to make cars king in its urban centres. But the government is trying to encourage its citizens to use bicycles instead of cars, especially in cities like Beijing, where air pollution is a major concern that threatens to mar its hosting of the Olympic Games in August. http://www.news24.com/News24/World/News/0,,2-10-1462_2258007,00.htmlcyclenut2008-01-24 22:53:14
  14. Splash-out: buy another tyre - keep the torn one for the IDT ...
  15. Don't litter. This country has enough problems. Carry them back to the coffee shop and put them in amongst the sugar sticks.
  16. Hey - it's the same cluster I used for The Jock
  17. I love mine I have the previous model too, but the new one has more ventilation. Superlight and comfy. The single-handed adjuster is practical too - particulalrly in winter when you're wearing gloves or a buff.
  18. Number two - but reversed: i.e. gold/brown on the down tube, white on the top tube
  19. Makes no difference - the 16g is for the inexperienced techie who dispells 6g of CO2 before securing the bomb onto the valve . . . They do a 24g bomb for ..... no wait, let me not say it.
  20. I buy mine (Rav-X) by the box - I think it worked out somwhere between R9 and R11 each. Note: These are the 12g. The 16g are about R3-R7 more per unit depending on where you shop. Would rather carry 2x12g than rely on 1x16g. The 12g will get you to 8bar and you may still have a bit left to boost someone in the bunch who's looking a bit soft. I use the 16g for the tandem.
