  1. CLASSIC!
  2. it was R75 but then when you get to pay, they automatically add on an extra R35 'provincial' fee! So you end up paying R110 like it or not. When my mate queried it, they said you have to pay it, and it wont process the payment without adding it on. Im telling you if there was some other way to race i would. These CSA characters are really milking it! You guys that paid R75, what province are you from?
  3. I must admit have only tried Biogen gels (not the best tasting, the naartjie is nicer than the vanilla), but they do work relatively fast and dont cost the earth. Gels are good for long rides but have you considered maybe chowing an energy bar in place of a banana on your rides, some of them are pretty easy to eat and work fast too
  4. Im not sure how other people feel about this, but i received my CSA licence yesterday (for the mountainbiking race side of things)and Im pretty hacked. Last year for R75, we received a card with all our details and a photo if we chose to send one in when we registered. This year, not only is it R35 more, but when i 'received' my licence, all i got was a green slip mailed through to me. On enquiring, i was told that yes, this is in fact the licence and no, you will not receive a card this year (unless you apply for a racing licence) hello? I applied for a licence so i wouldnt have to pay R33 to CSA every race day, is that not called a race licence?...apparently not Also, when you apply, they dont ask for a photo at any stage, so now when you receive your green slip, you notice there is no photo, but instead it says that you now have the pleasure of dragging your ID book to every race to PROOVE you are who the slip says you are. Bottom line is I feel ripped off. For R35 more than last year, I got a green slip of paper that i have to print out and take with my ID book to every race. What the stuff are we paying R110 for?!?
  5. thanks Mrs Slowbee, youve been a big help!
  6. Ok so I realise this is mainly directed at the woman riders, but out of interest, how soon after giving birth did you manage to get back into the saddle and start training again? And have you managed to maintain/juggle your riding with motherhood, or does it really not work?
  7. So I just found out today that my Specialised Captain on the rear is delaminating with Stan's tubeless slime (after I read that these were one of the few types that didnt delaminate with this slime) . I previously had a problem with my Bontragers (which came with the bike), so i switched the back - the front doesnt seem to have had an issue strangely. Any suggestions on what tyres DONT delaminate with Stans? (I love this slime and dont really want to change to anything else)
  8. maybe just the camera angle? or hes riding his other teammates bike to the van??
  9. that is one friggin awesome looking bike Always been a major Trek fan myself
  10. I still rate futurelife chocolate as the best before a long ride or race (having personally thrashed the oats before a race thing to death) But in summer a nice oat alternative is 1 big tub plain yogurt, 2/3rds a tin condensed milk (depending on how sweet you like it) and 1- 1&1/2 cups oats. Mix tog and store in fridge. then chop some fruit on the top or eat it minus the fruit...same effect as oats but slightly more interesting..and its gooooood!
  11. possibly ...but it looks like a fly cemetry and thats what puts me off! (that and Im not the hugest raisin fan)
  12. Christmas cake and I have never been the best of mates although you arent the first person who has recommended it. I might try some again and see...at this point Im prepared to try anything. Want to get settled on some new stuff before the main races start, so now is the best time to try new things...
  13. thanks Johan, am going to look around this coming weekend and try get a few new bars, so will keep an eye out for redbar and if I dont come right I'll give you a shout.thx
  14. I use clean green on my chain and cassette(paint it on)and leave to sit for a few minutes. then run it through the chain cleaner with a bit of sunlight once or twice and its spotless. That clean green stuff works like a bomb!
  15. I havent done either, but was chatting to a guy yesterday whose done sani and berg n bush. He reckons Berg is by far better value for money and probably the best stage race out there (if you can get into it). He did the 2 day and the 3 day and reckons the descent (3 day i think it is) is the better of the two. Personally I would kill to do either one.
  16. i used to have lower back issues, but i have scoliosis (curvature of the spine) so that probably was part of the problem. i do more core work now, had my new bike (i switched to dual sus) properly set up and now Im hundreds. can ride 100+kms offroad with no problems.
  17. where from?
  18. now THAT'S commitment!
  19. Thanks! The cookies and cream was the one I tried (amazing ) but based on above, i have a lot to work with, which is great as i was SERIOUSLY getting over PVM's!
  20. www.windguru.com..I used to use weather24 but theyre friggin useless...
  21. Painting the office! LOL... try checking windguru.com...have found they are by far the most accurate at forecasting the weather
  22. that's cheaper than a PVM! where from? Dischem?
  23. you NEVER get sick of them??? They cant have that many flavours surely...
  24. To be honest I only use it for my post ride PnB bomb shake so i cant tell the difference
