  1. Actually can relate to that. Did a night event last year, team format of two. We were riding as a mixed team, Suzie and I came up behind two other riders on the last lap. We were winning our cat and the course was made up of a lot of singletrack, we really politely asked for track and opportunity after opportunity for passing went by with mounting frustration and we had to go off route to pass. One dude's front wheel connected with my back wheel, but nothing major. It then though when I heard him talk (sort of) that I realised that both of them were deaf. Can't describe how absolutely *** I felt, like the lowest of the low. I mean how were we to know, but still. At the finish, apoligesed profusely but both okes took it in their stride and we all had beers and hugs, brosef hugs mind you.
  2. Haha ... yeah, it is an expensive exercise. If you do get the opportunity to do it though, you wont regret it. For most it honestly does change many things, for the positive. Unfortunately it isn't cheap, even with us having an entry and some support, my partner and I probably still spent 8k odd out of our own pockets, which isn't a vast amount but not exactly pocket change either. We were very very fortunate and honestly once again, if you can manage to get around to it you will value every moment.
  3. Oh don't worry boytjie, I'm not at all. Furtherest from it.
  4. Yah dude, your first few posts were actually witty, but now you really are coming across sarcastic and snide with it.
  5. Bit of a stupid argument this really, I've used both online ordering and physical shops for retail etc ... Have had both positive and negative experiences with both. More often than not it's been resolved as well. The biggest blame is really at the door of the brand/manufactures, ship directly to SA as it's own distribution point and take us out of being held within a distribution network via Europe.
  6. The point of saying "track please" is to let the person know you're there and would like to pass when it's safe to do so. Then when passing indicate which side. All it is, is some common decency and sense from both riders.
  7. Gosh 12 pages of snot and blow ... it's simple, just be mindful and respect the right of each other. If you come up behind another rider on a technical/singletrack section, politely and calmly say 'track when you can' and wait, be prepared to possibly wait until the trail opens up again. If you're the slower person, don't be arrogant about being in front, acknowledge the person behind you and pull over when safe. Even if it means slowing down for 1 or 2 seconds for the faster rider. If someone is walking a line, warn them you're approaching and be prepared to possibly go off route. If you're walking a line, don't hold up a number of other riders who aren't and don't impede them. From a safety point of view and consideration. Of course the above doesn't happen, because people get stuck in their own world, me me me stuff you....
  8. All things go well, my gearbox should be done by grouchy pants mechie!
  9. More trails, more singletrack ..... can't be a bad thing at all!!
  10. Speaking of dumbass ... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gHX33Psbt20&feature=player_embedded http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=10799497
  11. Fox Reflex still my favourite.
  12. I reckon the rules are also very much tongue in cheek ....
  13. Good for IdeJongh, make a fair enough point, nothing windgat about it. A damn difficult event and fair play to those who took part, even those who didn't manage to finish. Those Epic stickers are hardly noticeable anyway, those making comments about it seem to care more than the guys who have the sticker. Is ok if I wear my t-shirt? ...
  14. Not a vest perse, but I do keep a set of bright lights for commuting and my bag has a hi-vis strap that I put around it.
  15. What from the sticker? ... It's like that other old joke. How do you know if you're talking to a pilot? They'll tell you.
  16. Running the Maxxis Ikons without any hassles. Geax AKA is a damn fine tyre as well, just not a good combo on ZTR wheels though, if you need to get them off.
  17. Ah, but ..... @MR_TREAD 1 Absalon - 26-inch wheel Orbea 2 Schurter 27.5-inch wheel SCOTT 3 Fontana 29-inch wheel Cannondale... Let the debate continue @MR_TREAD Wheel size is one thing; the rider still powers it. Absalon = class athlete: 2x Olympic Champ 4x World Champ 5x World Cup Series Champ
  18. Florian Vogel rode like a demon, finished 6th after starting at 60th on the start grid!
  19. Oh look, it's the 'point the finger' argument again .... and again, lets face it, we're all equally as much of a jerk on the roads here. One day I'll sit and observe the number of cars that roll through the stop street at Vega as well as not stopping at the pedestrian crossing. Then I'll write a blog or start a forum titled "Motorists, we're our own worst enemy" The fatty cyclists were wrong, as was the self righteous driver .... what we should worried about is the fact the we need to share the road with both sets of morons. On their steeds and in their respective cars.
  20. Better specs on the GT? Acera, Deore, Rock Shox XC ... Not a chance, both the Axis and Titan are better specced at the price.
  21. Pretty close on the spec, although the Axis edges the Titan out with the brakes, wheelset and fork. I'm riding the A10 and loving it, same frame essentially geometry and sizing wise and the handling is superb. Also, Probike do Axis, so the backup is there, should you need it. Never ridden the Titan so couldn't comment there, although trying to find their site or any actual info is pretty disjointed. Eventually found their site, but it takes forever.
  22. Nice one Charl! One of the mentors in the Exxaro Academy is Justice Makhale, a former pro whose been around a while and was on the MTN squad. So they're in good hands. Were you the guy with the partner from Poland or something like that? Sorry to hear man, think there were a few guys from overseas who underestimated this event.
  23. Linden cycles also has a good range of baggy Indola and Hoss shorts.
  24. Today .... too early AM
  25. You must be joking... A non return of a greeting is unfriendly? Seriously, you're taking this greeting thing too seriously. Mountain, molehill. Let people be.
