  1. Perhaps a 6month- 2 year ban is too light. But I think it's far from a "slap on the wrist" How many people can go for that period without work? Especially in South Africa being a professional cyclist. Still by targeting the athlete alone we are never going to get to the route of the problem or even combat doping effectively.
  2. I disagree, it's an attitude problem on all fronts. Two wheels, four wheels, one wheel or a pair of feet. People on the roads in general are absolutely intolerant and aggro towards one another. To indicate that one group is more at fault than another is not pro-active imho. Read the article I posted a link to, makes an interesting and valid point.
  3. Keep them in the Cape ... had a prick in his Honda (XRR545GP) nearly take me near Parkhurst on Friday afternoon. TWICE... first time he veered left on a straight road and then decides to turn right at the Jolly Roger at the exact same time I do! @$$@* Seems to be an increasing number of toss plates that don't understand the concept of indicators! They're there to indicate a change of direction BEFOREHAND not DURING!
  4. Heres a good article for perspective .... http://velonews.competitor.com/2010/01/news/a-reporters-notebook-sentencing-dr-thompson_102284 Quote: "It?s relief that justice was served but there?s no winner no net gain from this. Everybody involved has lost. It?s sad, across the board. The only good that can come of this is if drivers and cyclists look at this as a wakeup call and respect each other; that?s the one minute bit of good.?
  5. http://imageshack.us is the easiest and simplest one I've come across. Bonus, no need to download any applications.
  6. Nothing wrong with the Mongoose brand, Sportsmans can be a bit hit and miss though. Also not sure who builds their bikes up at at Sportsmans though, some do it through a bike and others use 'Fred' who also unpacks the boxes. Mike's Bikes stocks Mongoose as well.
  7. Not technical at all, perhaps a 3 or 4 out of 10, about 80-90% of the trails are jeep track. Safety wise you'll be fine, join the group
  8. Read this now, damn ... always dig his posts, full of wit and humour. Now pull finge and heal up soon ..... Rocky, don't listen to Holy
  9. Have your positioning on the bike checked, incl the cleat positioning. May well also be a sign of a lack of core strength. Used to have the same problem, found that reverse situps helped my core strength and lower back.
  10. No man Ian, thought you were harder than that! Heal up chop chop!
  11. See u folk there.... Oh and Schwynn, I'm not a violent person, but you TOUCH my beer !!!!
  12. But it's twenty past 3 already ... How long are u guys gonna be there dorothy?
  13. Since the topic is up, I'm going for a ride at the park later if anyones keen. Slowish
  14. I've started banking with Bidvest Bank, who have taken over Rennies Bank. So far I'm pretty impressed and the charges are fairly reasonable.
  15. NF, many thanks for your communication on this and the proactive steps been taken. Hopefully these incidents were just the result of a spike in opportunistic act over the Dec holiday! See you on Sat.
  16. Fuken cowardly, childish and stupid... won't accomplish anything other than worsening the situation! At least it proves the theory, an asshole is an asshole. Be it on two wheels or four.
  17. 100% Barry, will pop past as well, as mentioned. NF is a valuable resource for the MTB community. Plenty familys go there and those just starting out. No way can we let this degenerate to scum! For what it's worth, it may be a good idea to get input from Daytona who run an offroad area for quads and MX bikes. Was there last week and there is no perimeter fence I can see, they're on the doorstep of Diepsloot as well. Setting up 'ambushes' to sort out these fellas is the kind of stupid gung ho plan that will backfire badly. Especially if one of these idiots has a gun/s.
  18. Could work well, would be even better with community involvement alongside the policing sector of that area and NF's private security. Often differing crimes are interlinked to the same groups or individual criminals. So this could also provide some form of basis for criminal intelligence gathering for the area. Imho community involvement would be key, especially considering the vital role NF plays in the community. There was a similar problem years ago with the climbing in Waterval Boven, community involvement was key in combating and resolving the crime at particular crags.
  19. Cheers mandibles, thats why I mentioned that it may be an idea to increase patrols over this festive period. From your observations it seems as if they were lax patrol wise, due to the farm being so quiet with activity. In the past I've seen them on a fairly regular basis whilst riding there. What time on Sat? Happy to pop past. Although I'll say at the outset, I am not getting involved in actively patrolling NF. More than happy help where I can, but am already committed with other volunteer jobs. As well the fact that there is a private security firm responsible for securing the perimeter of NF.
  20. I hope folk have relayed this to NF and Simon Nash, who also commented on Mands thread, pg 6. There is an armed response unit patrolling NF as well, reckon info like this would greatly assist them. Police reservists on private land doesn't seem feasible, especially the long run. imo... Although, reporting this is one thing we can do. Perhaps this time of year it would be prudent for the security guys to increase patrols. Use your season ticket, if we start giving up on riding at great venues such as this, those bastards win!
  21. Just make Summit isn't riding the big blade.... it's power is 'ayoba'
  22. Just so that everyone knows, if Hog dies I get his bike stuff. HR will most likely get the Erdinger beers!
