  1. For sure, also depends what one wants performance wise. Would work out a well priced race bike, not too far off Specialized’s Chisel or Trek Procal for eg. Convinced that the stock standard Drone Elite and Pro could be comfortably (relatively at least) used at the Cape Epic.
  2. On an alloy hardtail that’s not terrible at all, especially for an XL. Glad you got sorted ????
  3. Yes, otherwise you have a mass start of riders more focused on balancing their bikes instead of the start. Reminds me of a Gauteng provincial in Heidelberg. Anton Oberholzer OB thought he could lean on another rider (me) and clip in. While the rest of us had the normal human one foot down. He was still trying to trackstand 90’ to the line while the rest of us started.
  4. Stoked to see this stuff is still up, spent many hours working with Bardy on material like this. It’s a good foundation of information for the sport. Reid is as forthright as ever. One of sport administration’s failings is not listening closer to athletes and taking them on board. I can understand from both perspectives though.
  5. There was that at the time, but also the underpinning factor that Buys had clearly qualified within SASCOC/CSA policies at the time. From what I recall is there may have been some correspondence to that effect as well. Which is why Buys raised issue with this at the time. Similar story with Cherise beforehand, where ironically members of the appeal committee who upheld the decision. Were also part of the selection process.
  6. Exactly! ... I hope you checked your pockets
  7. No beating around the bush, whoever puts that out to be ridden, needs a ******* ringing ear! ****
  8. Not uncommon, some MTBs have them even. Your guess is correct, you can bolt a bento box/top tube bag for storage.
  9. Yeah I tend to agree, 40c with clearance upto 45c should be standard for SA. 650b even with MTB tyres is becoming pretty redundant for gravel. Helluva nice bike though, they’ve apparently been spending a lot of time on this.
  10. Stalking, it’s called stalking!????
  11. MTB selection policy is publicly available on CSA’s website https://www.cyclingsa.com/mountain/
  12. These things happen, regardless of how perfect the mechanics of the bike. Some years back two riders snapped their chains on the start line. It happens, it’s not always a case blaming someone.
  13. Iron Throne in Hartebeespoort.
  14. How are they scamming if you can't even actually checkout/purchase stock. Calm down.
  15. I’m using Arctic Fox as a browser on Mac. Unable to view images on forum, article and the reply box is just a narrow line.
  16. Is the ICG group? It was shared on our WhatsApp group and I posted it to the Melville suburb page. Glad you came off ok otherwise! Seems that bend below the Puma station and the very top corner of the pass are now rendering that entire road as a hotspot. Unfortunately haven't seen much from policing/suburb in terms of solutions. Mostly private businesses that have conducted clean ups, but it needs to be consistent to be effective. Access from Barry Hertzog also needs to be cut off. IMHO this is where the problem stems from and the guys escape to nearby Fietas.
  17. Decent selection on balance.
  18. Candice Lill and Alan Hatherly our South African representatives at the Tokyo Olympics.
  19. Looking at the 90s MTB maybe, some gravel bikes definitely sail close to this. As far as a modern MTB goes, not quite. Have a CX bike, gravel and full sus light trail MTB. The differences are night and day between the three.
  20. ☺️ As such is the Ineos way ....
  21. Sonop near Hartebeespoort is an interesting one. Plenty farms and quarries coexisting within the same area, some owned by the same farmers. It does seem though that there are environmental problems as far as mining goes. A house we stopped at for water refused to allow us tap water and instead gave us drinking water from a cooler. According to the owners they cannot use the tap water because of seepage from mining operations, including the municipal town water which is questionable alreadt because of erratic maintenance.
  22. Pretty much my experience, and have caught pinch cuts on pretty inane stuff. Also not great with loose over hard. They roll and track well though.
  23. Seems it could one of those things we just let go. Thankful she’s safe and sound. Good for her and those in her circle ... ????
  24. Thanks Bennie, just heard the same via another group. Good news
