  1. Ta, was actually at this event. ???? .... the talk covers the sponsorship. I mean in general marketing through the team the messaging on cycle insurance isn't apparent.
  2. Good to know for future reference, did not know this. Doesn't come across in the messaging, always took it as risk insurance for businesses.
  3. I see there's reference to him enjoying ricoffy. So much makes sense now .....
  4. Former National, Continental and World Champs can display the bands on their sleeves at anytime when competing in the respective discipline. Current title holders are identified with a white jersey and bands accross the waist/test.
  5. See the signature/invoice details claim to be a Pty. Should be easy enough to verify.
  6. I dunno. Even before Covid event organisers in general found it problematic to insure against full refunds for ticket sales. It seems that insurers don't like/appreciate the odds in risk management on top of all the other risks. Add in a pandemic and it's Russian roulette in an industry that already plays margins close to the bone. As has already been mentioned here, in the current climate why are people so outraged/surprised when something like this happens. Also understand, being in a position right now to enter and event along with travelling and accommodation is a massive privilege, while many people are literally fighting for their livelihoods.
  7. What an arb post. Anyway, could be from dead/end of line stock. There are a couple retailers who have changed hands over the years and will have offloaded dead stock at some point. There was actually also a bunch of Spez stock donated by a US retailer as a goodwill gesture to Botswana/greater Africa as a goodwill gesture. It found its way onto the grey market in SA, not ideal. The guys involved weren’t aware and quite likely out of pocket as well. The affected parties were put in touch, presumably the issues were resolved and people moved on. Its a *** thing to happen and occurs more than many people think. Nearly got caught out years back in a similar scenario. Was approached with a line of gym/exercise equipment. Turned out it was actually destined for an NGO working with peace keeping projects.
  8. Over a year ago now. Just business.
  9. Happy to help up Joburg side.
  10. Con tro ver sial
  11. My current bike is a Cypher Elite and I'm more than happy with it. Plenty good, the design team is based in Bellville Cape Town where all the design and development is carried out. The guy responsible for much of the current iteration of the range has extensive experience in the industry. Their range of accessories are also damn good quality/performance for the money.
  12. Don't complicate things with blades and sandpaper. Just use water paper, works a bomb.
  13. On particularly hot and sunny days bottle colour makes little difference. But in general I've found that clear bottles actually warm up fluids quicker than any solid colour bottles, including black.
  14. Specialized and Titan Tracing, I have both. Quality, as well. If you're really worried about the branding you can remove it with water paper.
  15. I call this 'Contemplation Ridge' ... Alberts Farm, has an amazing view of the Jozi skyline.
  16. Actually not a bad thing in the long run, chat to Wendell. Balwin are incorporating the trail network and Wendell will have a more formalised venue area.
  17. So just to clarify, it wasn’t an actual Scott rider? Just someone wearing Scott clothing most likely...?
  18. Yip, similar practice to Chaoyang. I had a set of their rubber on a 26r Schwinn back in the day, no issues. Kevin Evans raced a bit with them on the SA Raleigh bikes as well. They’re a tyre sponsor with a couple of teams, most notably Bart Brentjen’s team CST Pro with local rider Mariske Strauss. If they work for a WC/Epic environment they’re fine for us easy riders.
  19. Highly underrated tyre brand in general. They’re decently comparable to anything else in use really. At the price it’s a no brainier.
  20. I think between the Middle East thread and some of the latter comments on Breaking News, people along the lines of literally saying they have a good laugh about someone getting shot in the face. Well, little wonder BikeHub need to take action and I can understand the heavy handed action. People need to be responsible for what they say. Still, it needs to be balanced. You cant put the genie back in the bottle by deleting entire threads of info. Lock them and/or move them if need be and take action on specific accounts that may fall foul. Yes Media24 disable article comments, that is however a different context entirely and doesn't really have bearing on a forum based platform. Unless the group buy out BH
  21. Far as I know the river is not open, there’s red/white tape closing off entrance to there. Was last there about month back, so maybe this has changed?
  22. Not sure what industry you're in, but try to source, manufacture and get a product to market, especially now, especially in SA. The bike industry isn't the only one facing this problem. For an emerging economy like SA this will always be a challenge, we have a volatile currency so no matter what it's difficult enough to manage supply chain along with exchange rate on trading currencies like the dollar. On top of that we're a relatively small market on balance compared to a lot of other markets. All things considered the bike industry SA actually does ok with supply and pricing, often despite itself . There is value and we are a resilient market with growth potential and we manage to punch above our weight somehow. We also have better choice options than a lot of other markets.
  23. Not even niche market, the novelty appeal came and went long ago. Would be surprised if the uptake was even 0.5% of total market.
  24. Deffo, I managed it in 2012 on a stock Axis A10. Formed part of the marketing for the brand, which was launched at the time by the same guy who is now a director at Signal’s parent Co.
