  1. Deore, bomb proof and incredible. Even some of the Cues stuff. Still, I do like the direction SRAM have gone here and expect that pricing lower down the tier should level out.
  2. Read that as souties at first, was about to say well yes, souties kan ook lekker mense wees! But also, sosaties, at a water point! Throw them at my face!
  3. Smooth flowy singltrack on a gravel bike is absolute banging fun! Plenty of that in Karkloof!
  4. Incoming, that may be Danielle du Toit's bike. Got some stuff on Bianca Haw's fiets after yesterday's stage, some slight differences.
  5. That post stage chirp "joh my oil light came on at the beginning"
  6. Some Lukas Baum Orbea Oiz vibes - https://off.road.cc/content/feature/bike-check-lukas-baums-2025-cape-epic-orbea-oiz-16775
  7. Nearly half the price though? Mate bought one after his X Fusion eventually died. He's been happy, organised an extra battery and what swung him is the battery housing.
  8. Did the Dr provide a written account? Because ad hominem snark aside after all, without that it's unsubstantiated.
  9. There's a number of scenarios other than what you described Irvin, but it seems to have triggered a somewhat direct response, you're welcome to get in touch directly if there's something specific. The point is that despite assumptions about so-called coverups, there is literally no information that would have come forward.
  10. Sorry but this couldn't be further from the truth. No one can confirm, and no matter how it's worded, there weren't any fatalities in the event. It would be impossible for the medical, event, and emergency services to cover up. If I had to go on field accounts alone, there would be 6 fatalities alone, everything from blankets, body bags and branches have been mentioned. Yet not a single person has even a cellphone pic.
  11. Being on site throughout the day, some facts that are due are that the start was earlier, the route was shortened, and cutoffs were extended along with extra water. Unfortunately, it can also be compounded by someone dousing themselves with water. Yes they shouldn't and yes they should be stopped, but for anyone who has been involved with events, try stopping someone in that condition from doing so. There were also a host of other issues brought about. What I did see on site was vehicles with extra water going out. The decision to stop riders at Christmas Camp (66km) could well have compounded this. However, with the air ambulance operating, the call had to be made. The event also put out an emergency evac, which called for all staff, etc., to take vehicles up to the evacuation point and bring riders down. I'd say approx 220 od people were evacuated in the space of an hour or two. Trucks etc went up to collect bike. The staff and officials took pictures of each registration as well as rider numbers. As far as fatality/ies go, there's no confirmation and if so it requires a severe amount of delicacy, family would be involved and any priority of notice is toward them. There is also the fact that in such a scenario for most, they'd prefer to keep such a thing private. It should be respected, no argument. It's a difficult call to make, hindsight is always perfect, and no doubt there are questions to be asked. On the keyboard flipside there's those who are calling the decision soft, and fairweather riders. Personally, I feel that these are those kinds of moments people should step back a little until the dust settles.
  12. Some prologue gallery vibes - https://off.road.cc/content/feature/2025-absa-cape-epic-prologue-gallery-16749
  13. Couldn’t think of a better mentor. Great news!
  14. His contract is til the end of 2025 at least. Either way any major change would be announced, ultimately it’s only relevant to Beers and his prerogative.
  15. Team change, Bianca Haw will be teaming up with another rider, possibly Hayley Preen but TBC.
  16. European Parliament has called for sanctions against Rwanda and the cancellation of 2025 UCI World Championships. A motion of 443 votes in favor and 4 against. https://cyclingmagazine.ca/sections/news/2025-world-road-championships-in-rwanda-to-be-cancelled/
  17. No bearing on POPI, it’s been well documented and publicly reported on. Taun Bewsher has a number of open complaints/investigations of fraud widely discussed on public platforms. A quick google and FB search will bring up this up and squash any qualms about the fearsome POPI red herring.
  18. Conversely, there's a window to turn this into an opportunity. His profile has risen a bit from the increased media attention because of this situation. His name has popped up in a few conversations outside of XCO and even cycling, so if it crosses the right person his situation may well be better off.
  19. Since we're in the phase of nitpicking content material, which we access for free nogal. .... It isn't a piece of 'journalism' Its a race report via a press release, not an editorial. The writer was/is likely wearing more than one cap and on deadline. It happens, normally recipients perform a quick proofread and subedit, not always viable over odd hours and filtering multiple other press releases etc. It happens on the rare occasion. Ultimately we still received a half-decent race update and good insight. What truly matters is the quality of racing and a local result to be proud of against a strong international field.
  20. I know Andrew Smale made his space available in Val di Sole along with some transport assistance, gym, training facilities etc .... Think the guy will get all the help he needs with a bit of effort from people helping where they can.
  21. Haven’t tried them as yet, but have several friends who have bought and are really happy. The one did a multi day bike packing trip with his, no complaints. Jhb- Kzn
  22. Seems a lot of stolen phones around the world tend to go through different phases from data/identity theft to repurposing and spares. Also doesn't help if most people don't blackist their devices after a theft. https://issafrica.org/iss-today/cellphone-theft-another-indicator-of-south-africas-policing-gaps https://www.arrivealive.mobi/news.aspx?i=64462&s=1&page=suspect-nabbed-in-possession-of-hundreds-of-robbed-iphones-in-the-jhb-cbd https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/delhi/mobiles-dismantled-then-sold-as-parts/articleshow/51901465.cms https://www.thetimes.com/uk/society/article/how-your-stolen-iphone-ends-up-in-one-chinese-city-market-v6rf6w6pv
  23. It's not just budgets but also logistics, teams are often on the bleeding edge into budget etc ... So even what may appear to be a bargain carries a significant consideration and might be a risk to both the team and rider. Not something that can be snapped up without an angel investor, unfortunately.
  24. Bit of both, the scale of workload is crazy. Also a lot of stuff needs to be in order with a multi-agency agreement. 24 months is actually not that out there, especially if we consider massive projects like Operation Puerto.
  25. Would be a good start, hopefully it would provide some stability so that he can focus on the season ahead.
