  1. I bought the Avalanche about 4years back so not sure if shops still stock them, but I bought it at City Cycling - there is one in CanalWalk, they have a wide variety of bikes, just tell the sales guy you have R1500 to spend - and then let him show you what they have in that range. The Silverbacks might be cheaper? Go have a look. You could always go 2nd hand as well, you?ll get a better bike for the same price that way.
  2. The Alalanche, yeah, was pretty Solid, weigted like 14.8kg's - I upgraded it as I saw fit the more I got into cycling. Was a good learning curve, got to research all the parts ect to get it lighter when I got into racing. Any old bike should be fine for what you looking at using it for.
  3. I bought my first bike for the same reasons, just to get to work and back. Ended up buying a Avalanche Reflex 24speed Hybrit for about R1500 so I think you got the right idea. Only used it for a couple of months thou - then a year or so after my Boss got me into cyling, I started training for about 3months and did my first road race with it, I raced the same bike for another year or so before I bought myself a Specialized S-Works Tarmac Road bike. So, yes, don't spend to much money on a new bike, you either going to use it for a few months or going to stop using it.
  4. Thx Brad! Hectic, I'm going to have to wait till I can get one 2nd hand - they are really hot thou!
  5. word, I pay my medical Aid every month and it's not cheap. So, if and when I am in a accident my Medical Aid should take care of that. I don't understand why we should give it away for free when we pay a crap load of money already for Medial Aid?
  6. Nice, how much are the Carbon frames going for here??
  7. Recovery and time between donations Donors are usually kept at the donation site for 10?15 minutes after donating since most adverse reactions take place during or immediately after the donation. [49] Blood centers typically provide light refreshments such as tea and biscuits or a lunch allowance to help the donor recover.[50] The needle site is covered with a bandage and the donor is directed to keep the bandage on for several hours.[1] Donated plasma is replaced after 2-3 days.[51] Red blood cells are replaced by bone marrow into the circulatory system at a slower rate, on average 36 days in healthy adult males. In that study, the range was 20 to 59 days for recovery.[52] These replacement rates are the basis of how frequently a donor can give blood. Plasmapheresis and plateletpheresis donors can give much more frequently because they do not lose significant amounts of red cells. The exact rate of how often a donor can donate differs from country to country. For example, plasma donors in the United States are allowed to donate large volumes twice a week and could nominally give 83 liters (about 22 gallons) in a year, whereas the same donor in Japan may only donate every other week and could only donate about 16 liters (about 4 gallons) in a year.[53] Red blood cells are the limiting step for whole blood donations, and the frequency of donation varies widely. In Hong Kong it is from three to six months,[54] in Australia it is twelve weeks, [55] in the United States it is eight weeks [56] and in the UK it is usually sixteen weeks but can be as little as twelve.[57]
  8. Yeah, *** that, why don't they pay us for our blood like they do in other contries!?!? I'm not giving my blood away for free!
  9. The Sidi's are defnitly narrower and the Specialized shoes are wider / way more comfy. The Sidi's are narrow at the toe part and the Specialized are wider.

  12. Specialized and LG's are wide.

  19. Let me think, I have my Polar Speed Sensor on the front wheel. I took of the Polar Cadence sensor a while ago already cuz it stopped working after a crash. Yes, got the Old Wired SL.
  20. Really, weird, I must've zero'd it 3 times yesterday before the ride, then again twice when it started giving me weird readings. It's really strage, when I use it in my area, doing my normal training rides it's fine, but as soon as I venture off my normal training routes it goes wacky. I did contact BikeMax about it and he reffered me to Martin at Bicycle Power Trading, needless to say I have not heard anythign from him yet.
  21. Really, omw.. Mine is really buggered I think. When it's cold or just raining really lightly it goes wacky. I'd get like 300W on the one pedal stroke and then 360W with the other on a hill, I mean really!!!!? It's bonkers!
  22. ***, I thought I should switch to a SRM to get away from the PowerTaps sensitivity to Temperature, so much for that idea..
