  1. Yes, her PAYE deduction is her tax contribution. If she had tax deducted then she couldn't have been under the threshold. Unless the months she was employed and contributing were in a different tax year?
  2. Those are my thoughts too dirtypot. If it is a supply/demand issue then a lot of the appeal has been lost for me. I've always seen this as a noncommercial event. That has been the main attraction over the years. If one is looking purely at cost per day, then this is on a par with many of the unaffordable team stage races. And as you know, the cost of the event for the rider is not just entry fee. It's travelling and accommodation both before and after the event. I'm quite saddened by this.
  3. Wow what a disappointment to go onto the 2018 entry page to see that the fees have been hiked by a massive 35% for R2R. I wonder what justifies such a huge hike in entry fee? I guess I can cross this experience off my list of want-to-dos and put it onto my can't-afford-to-do list
  4. Well done! That week that I did the Sani2C challenge with cat-i, there was no time for anything. Each day was ride/work/ride/eat/sleep, repeat. A challenge like this is admirable, especially if one still has work/family/study commitments. Good luck with the remainder of the challenge!
  5. Infuriating, I ride through Linden on my commute home. If the police have the registration no, surely it should be easy to track them down? Unless it's a stolen car or number plate.
  6. hey... you've given me an idea. Is there a rule against commuting more than once a day?
  7. I want to like this, but you knocked me a position down on the leaderboard
  8. I have the same problem. In a couple of months I'll be completely out of the challenge. My employment contract is ending around September/October with our company closing down.
  9. Thanks! I wouldn't have done it without you Hopefully the commutes will be a bit more frequent now
  10. Well that was a rough couple of weeks, but I survived to commute again. I'll reach the 1000km mark tomorrow morning, all things being well
  11. So I know this isn't a cooking tip/recipe, but I thought it would be appropriate to share here being a cycling forum My most recent project: TDF cookies
  12. That was exactly what I thought! I'd like to throw down the gauntlet.... but.... baking
  13. under your hate list, I think you forgot 2 important points: Putting your cold HR strap onto a nice warm body. Especially if it's slightly damp from being rinsed the previous dayThe burning of the hot shower water when it touches all of your frozen extremities
  14. ......and soon that list will expand to include some twins I'm sure ;-)
  15. In my quest to try and pair hub names with Endomondo names to figure out who's who, it seems I was mistaken. This person isn't on the Endomondo challenge, but just contributes to this thread
  16. haha! yes, one has to be careful with today's technology. It's relatively easy to track people down when they're connected online
  17. At the risk of sounding Stalker-ish, it looks like one of the top contenders in this challenge and I are practically neighbours. Ok... maybe just a few streets apart. And all of this I discovered from watching my homebound commute on Strava's Fly bys If I didn't know better, I'd even guess that he lives in JB's old house Best you guys go and set up security zones on Strava if you don't want random strangers knowing where you live
  18. It's that little gadget that you used to carry around in your sock for your kuif back in the 70's
  19. I forgot my comb at home today. It's the simplest little thing that can be a problem if you're a woman... or Peter Sagan Anyway, I did the best that I could using my fingers as a makeshift comb. I'm walking around the office looking a bit like I just got out of bed. note to self: buy a spare comb to live at the office
  20. Bad luck, heal up soon. I'm on the move again after a couple of weeks off. Next goal is to reach 1000
