  1. I'm reviving this old thread for the same reason, although I see the OP didn't get much of a response. I have a stack of old magazines if anyone wants them. Bicycling, ride and tread dated 2005-2013. If nobody is interested then they'll go out with the recycling on Thursday. If you are interested, please drop me a DM
  2. Horse legs... who would've thought? It works well for breastfeeding moms too 😄
  3. Milking cream. Technically for cows but works like magic as bum cream.
  4. On the subject of people getting knocked down, I'm surprised to see that there has been no mention anywhere on the Hub of Andreas Probst. Sadly his knock down was fatal. The video is upsetting, so be warned if you do a google search. Not to detract from little girls getting shoved into the mud or anything. Oh, for what it's worth, I'm South African.
  5. I'm resurrecting this VERY old thread to find out what you all do with your old (but still usable) cycling shoes. I have a pair of MTB shoes which are still in decent enough condition to be used by someone, but not decent enough to sell. I'm reluctant to just toss them if someone can use them. Are there any development clubs in Joburg where one can hand down old shoes and kit?
  6. Very sad to see this news. Like most of the 'old' hub crowd I lost touch with Thug, only occasionally bumping into him along the spruit over the years. Such a gentleman. Condolences to his family and friends. RIP Thuggie
  7. I stand to be corrected, but I seem to recall @NotSoBigBen having a broken button on his Garmin and he 3D printed one to replace it.. worked a charm if I remember correctly?
  8. I'm not suggesting this as a means of self defense, but just to share a small anecdote. A couple of years ago I was riding alone and out of the blue this guy comes running out of the bushes of an open veld, straight towards me with a big stick in hand, shouting and hitting the stick on the ground. I got a big fright expecting to be attacked. In the moment and without much thought, I pulled out my Sahmurai bar end and was going to stab him with it. When he reached me he suddenly stopped and walked back into the veld muttering something to himself. I realised a couple of things at that point: 1 - the oke was mentally ill 2 - a Sahmurai tubeless repair kit can potentially be used as more than a tubeless repair kit
  9. Wow, I'm astounded by how badly that road has deteriorated. Back in the day I used to ride it almost every weekend. Frequently alone. I haven't been up there in a good few years now. Probably since my mom passed in 2014. Things changed and my family have since moved from the farm where some older hubbers may remember meeting up to go on Breedts Nek group rides. Bittersweet memories watching @nathrix's video. Thanks for sharing
  10. I agree with this sentiment, there's something special about switching lights off in the middle of nowhere and seeing more stars in the sky than anyone from Joburg will ever see. The dead quiet is cathartic. Having said that, it could be a nice change to see Bergplaas in daylight and probably terrifying seeing the big dipper 🙃
  11. Back at you homie
  12. Only 45kgs ????
  13. I'm so sorry to hear about Rubes. I've wondered from time to time how the other 'adoptees' are getting along. Scar boy is doing well. He is older and going grey now and gets tired quickly when walking or playing, but he's still a big puppy at heart and the most loved and spoilt mutt on the planet. He'll be 7 in December.
  14. There's something about the texture of the Fry's products that I just can't stomach no matter how many other ingredients I add, so I've just stopped buying meat 'replacements/substitutes'. For me personally, they're expensive and unnecessary.. but maybe that's just me
  15. He has become the king of the Drew household
  16. Another year, another post to remember our old friend. Time moves so quickly. I felt sad for his boys today, the anniversary of the loss of a parent never seems to get easier. I hope many of you will join me in raising a glass to him today. Since I don't have any Guinness, a glass of merlot will have to suffice. Here's to Holy Roller.
  17. Hard to believe 2 years have passed. I think about him a lot.
  18. I can't speak for the others, but Scar is doing great. I can't remember life before him.. there is never a dull moment with this big oaf. We love him to bits
  19. Knead your dough well, but because it's a sticky dough, don't be tempted to add too much flour. It needs the moisture to create steam which causes it to puff up. When they come out of the oven wrap them in a tea towel so that they don't dry out oh and don't roll them out too thick otherwise they won't puff
  20. Speedy recovery FL
  21. A very rare moment of keeping still for Scar boy
  22. I can't believe a year has passed. I thought it would be apt to post an update on one of his fur children that has become a family member in the Drew household. Apart from the time that he chewed the kitchen door, or the time that he chased Friskey cat so that she didn't come home for a month, or the time the couch cushion exploded, he's adapted extremely well to his new home and quite honestly I can't remember life before Scar.. so here are some pics. I hope the others are all doing as well as he is.
  23. He's a very happy and boisterous boy! He nearly knocks me off my feet from excitement when I get home everyday. He's settled in nicely with our elderly Jack Russell, and our 3 cats keep him in line (he gets regular slaps if he gets too close) I'm completely and utterly in love with the mutt and can't really remember life before him. I should ask IanJ if he can maybe put an update on all of the others on the Barry thread. It'll be nice to know how they're doing.
  24. Excuse my ignorance, maybe it's obvious to many, but why isn't it a good idea? What are the risks?
