  1. Eish NSBB, maybe you can just hold it there for a while... we're still in the clear at the moment, but that has been known to change rapidly
  2. Same thing happened a few weeks back. I have a colleague that wanted to arrange a different way for me to get home. Meanwhile cat-i was standing somewhere in the pouring rain waiting for me. I then had to promise to send a 'got home safely' message to said colleague. The nicest part of that ride was having the spruit all to ourselves!
  3. aah yes, I think I did miss your point, I understand what you're saying. I was just reminiscing mindlessly rather than commenting on the racing aspect
  4. when one is commuting, there is no choice
  5. Maybe not completely alone, I think given the choice there would be 3 groups of people. Those that do the descent in the rain because they know what to expect and have a lot of faith in their technical abilityThose that do the descent because they've never done it and are blissfully ignorant/unawareThose that have done it before and value their lives too much to take a chance (I'd be in this group)I have no doubt that it can be ridden whilst it's raining, but slippery conditions, mud being flung up into your eyes from the rider ahead, no visibility because your glasses are covered in mud... I reckon it would be a recipe for disaster
  6. Lucky for us neither cat-i or myself are fair weather riders. As she put it so eloquently last time it rained: "we're not disprins"
  7. I still see blue skies, maybe we'll be lucky and have the 30% chance of no rain
  8. Found this on the interwebs
  9. Just to put it into perspective for those that haven't done it, it's a singletrack all the way to the bottom. In some sections it can't be more than a metre and a bit wide with a sheer drop on your left. I've done it twice and both times I've had a 'don't look down' mantra going on... sometimes out loud
  10. And.... I forgot to say Congrats to Cat-i!! I believe she was the first to complete the challenge Well done and thanks for being good company and putting up with my moaning
  11. I forgot!! I'll try to remember tonight
  12. I remember 2010 was thick slushy mud for the whole of stage one and then a rainy start with the detour for stage 2. Stage 3 was the only stage with no rain. I was disappointed mostly for riders that hadn't had the opportunity to go into the Umko valley via Nics pass, but I think the organizers made a good call otherwise they may have been airlifting a lot of riders out of the valley
  13. Just don't forget to wash your MTB and inflate the tyres... and 1 MTB ride per annum isn't going to cut it ;-)
  14. I think I'll also skip the Epic challenge Well done!
  15. https://www.endomondo.com/challenges/33065742 let's try my one, I still can't join yours
  16. Damn! I feel cheated Oh well, I know that in 15,2kms I would've completed the challenged. I'll even match the ascent. I'm happy with that
  17. I was amazed at how good I felt this morning. My legs were burning on all the uphills, but otherwise it was an ok ride!
  18. I've clicked on the link but can't seem to join the challenge anywhere?
  19. I have the perfect recipe for a thin, crispy crust, but it's at home, so I'll have to post it later
  20. I'm barely surviving it, I don't think I'll do it again in a hurry.
  21. Good on you for making the effort. I wouldn't have been able to do the distance or ascent without using all 5 days. On my road bike maybe, but I'm not suicidal. I'm just hoping that it doesn't rain tomorrow. That won't be the most pleasant way to complete the challenge.
  22. Yay, I've managed top 10 Catching up with Bataleur1 won't happen very easily, the gap is wide
  23. On this morning's ride I left Jolivet and I'm currently riding through the sugar cane fields. I'm ok on distance so far, I'll reach the finish line on the ride home tomorrow, but I'll have to catch up on a bit of climbing today. It'll be a shame to finish the challenge without the required ascent, especially since I'm so close. Vasbyt almal, the end is in sight
  24. I've had similar intentions in the evenings until it starts getting dark and I find myself cold and hungry. Then shortest route home FTW
