  1. hmmm I like my garden.... the dog(s) will be alone until the boys get home from school, so they're likely to get bored. Then again, any breed might get bored and dig up the garden? Or are beagles worse than other breeds in this respect?
  2. Yes, the lady at Beagle Rescue mentioned that this can be a problem with the breed, because once they pick up a scent they want to follow it and they become oblivious to anything else around them
  3. I see a few Beagle owners here. Are they really as much of a handful as people say? I want to get one but I've received countless warnings from people about how it's not a great idea if I love my home and garden.
  4. What is this "only option" you speak of? I manage to get out on my MTB most mornings between 4:30 & 5:00 regardless of which season it is. Someone, somewhere once said: "there's no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing" Some cool setups though, if that's your thing
  5. I so wish I had read this thread before my ESI purchase, which arrived in the post today.....
  6. What is the distance of one loop? and do the dog walkers fight with the cyclists on the day?
  7. I guess I won't be asking you if you want to join us for a ride to the circus then......
  8. Nice one gen, the cracks around the edges mean it's been slightly over cooked. The way to know that your cheesecake is baked, is to gently shake the dish. There should be a slight 'wobble' in the centre of the cake, which will then continue to cook in the 'cooling down' process. Looks yummy though edit: spelling
  9. Just be careful, clicking around on his website installed a virus on my PC. Fortunately I'm at work, so our Firewall picked it up immediately and removed it
  10. Cool video, it puts into perspective how slowly I ride those same trails
  11. I met you in the dark next to a local koppie? (northcliff I assume) I've had a few such encounters with various hubbers.... you'll need to fill in the blanks for me
  12. Ja, I lurk around here from time to time the odd TransB comment is here and there I'll report back when I finish #5 hopefully next year
  13. Yoh! he's alive....
  14. This would imply that everybody has exactly the same cycling ability and rides at the same speed..... except they don't all finish at the same time, so logically they must've stopped for a nap en route. Suddenly it all makes sense to me, all those thousands of cyclists I've seen sleeping on the side of the road going up Chappies in the Argus are actually the 6-7 hour finishers. Big ups to anyone that finishes this event. It's tough, both physically and mentally. Possibly even more so for the slower riders that have to fight sleep in the early hours of the morning and into the sunrise. Yours sincerely Proud 21 hour finisher
  15. Or you had already applied for leave and booked accommodation, flights etc
  16. And now I've just read earlier in this thread that cooking with olive oil is a no-no... and there I thought I was doing the right thing
  17. Week 4 for me. Frustrated that my weight and measurements haven't budged in a week. I've had periods of extreme nausea this week. Some days I've found that I get halfway through a meal and then feel sick, so I just stop eating. Other days I've skipped meals completely because I just feel too nauseous to face food of any sort. I'm hoping that this isn't permanent, because I'd much rather eat carbs and sugar and feel semi-normal than have constant nausea. This experience has taught me to really think about what food I put into my mouth. It's teaching me to use food as fuel rather than using it as a form of pleasure or an emotional crutch. For the first time in years I feel like I have some sort of control over my eating habits, which is good. Just a couple of questions. My hair and skin (particularly on my forehead) have become quite greasy. Am I eating too much fat? I've upped my average coffee intake to around 3-4 cups a day. Is this too much? PS It's my sons birthday today, so I am planning a 'Cheat' meal tonight when I take him out for dinner. I'll let you guys know of the outcome
  18. NSBB - Taliban Pete doesn't ride the spruit. Well he has occasionally, but only under duress
  19. Seems I'm at the bottom of the ranks, maybe I'll just cross the road I'm not sure about emoticons on mobile.
  20. Quick update before my day gets busy again! I have roughly 14 kgs to lose (many would disagree, but I know that the weight I'm aiming for is the weight I was most comfortable at a couple of years back) I've tried the above training method for my last few rides. I hardly even break a sweat! I haven't been off road because it's impossible to control my HR, so I've been riding my MTB on the road. Every now and then I can hear other cyclists approaching from behind, then I quickly pedal faster because I'm embarrassed to be going so slowly That aside, Friday was 3 weeks for me and my energy is returning. By Friday, I was down 2.5kgs (11.5 to go) and 5cms around my waist! My skin looks better than ever! People are commenting on it, so it's not my imagination
  21. Sounds fantastic! thanks to all involved I'm just wondering what's going to happen when 2 mtb'ers meet face to face in the middle... stare down?
  22. I'm exercising loads of patience already! I thought the weight would just fall off me... apparently not Thanks for the advice, I'll go enjoy the scenery
  23. stupid question: where do I buy coconut oil?
