  1. I been using USN Pure Protein and had good results from it, I lost weight using it as a meal replacement for breakfast, makes you feel full till lunchtime. I also used it as a recovery drink very successfully I don't want to sleep after a hard race if I have had a protein shake, while I do if I just have a carb drink. I used it after being advised by a body builder who has a protein shake after each workout. That is a body building technique. You probably should gain weight if you train hard and then have a protein shake and carbs, your body will repair the muscle and build more muscle to compensate for the training load, depending on the nature of the training. I mean if you do hard strength work on your bike and then have a protein shake you should really build more muscle than if you had a carb drink as the protein feeds and helps repair and regenerate the muscle tissue. Protein is important in a diet.
  2. Midrand Country Cyclists ride from Carlswald Lifestyle Centre Mugg and Bean in Midrand on Saturdays. A nice range of groups from hardcore to social. www.mccycle.co.za
  3. I thought my frame was cracked but it turned out to be the seat post which had some muck between it and the frame. I cleaned it up, greased and cleaned again and it was sorted.
  4. I have just done my 9th Argus and have had my best ride to date, I am 47 now. I won the fastest club time for my cycling club at Argus this year. Last year I was drilled by a 65 year old club mate who flew past me up Chappies he did a 3:01 I think. I reckon you only as old as you think you are, if you train lots.
  5. No 3, I also like the stripes down the middle on the front and back it pulls the design together. Not sure about the blue though, don't think the blue works its too much / too busy. These are much tighter than the first batch. Better layout. I would also try the shorts with no black, I still find the black a dissonant element. I understand if the logo colour is black but logos must also work reversed out of colours etc, ie as single colour options.
  6. Yeah I am also interested in this question, I have an S-Works Epic 2008 carbon frame and it comes in at 12.5kg. I built it up myself, bought the frame and added the rest, bought the best spec'd stuff I could find. Now that in my book is on the heavy side, I would have expected it to be lighter than that, but it has good components on it. Medium frame, Thompson stem / seat post, Phenom SL saddle, Carbon bar, X0 RD/ shifters, X9 FD, Avid Ultimate, XTR rotors, Crankbrothers Cobolt Crank, Sram rear cluster PG990, SRAM chain, Fulcrum Red Metal 3 UST rims, Mountain King at rear, Monorail front tyre, Crank brothers SL eggbeaters, Reba World Cup fork (not carbon crown). 7. One word: Bactroban
  8. Why not drop the black. Make it 2 colours the pink and the other colour, the black makes it look unfinished it is a dissonant element in the design. Who is the title sponsor, the logos look very similar sizes, I would make the title sponsor the bigger element and the others smaller so they read more as a texture. have a look at te current team jerseys of the Giro, they all have very clear title sponsors and the rest are a lot smaller. Makes for a more cohesive layout / design.
  9. Still looks boring really! How about some colour, why Black and Pink? Why not bright vibey colours and some design flair, to liven it up. IMO it looks like you have just put the logos neatly on the kit. You should try and use a design device that pulls the logos into a design that livens it up and has a vibey feel about it, with some visual movement. Like a swirl graphic in 2 or 3 colours with the logos reversed out of the colours. Then I would be maybe inclined to want to wear it. I really would not want to wear something that just has logos on it. My 2 cents worth.
  10. That is just not sexy kit, its fugly.
  11. One of my cycling club members fell on the M1 in the 94.7 last year dislocating his shoulder. The medics put him in the ambulance and he asked them "what about my bike?" They just said don't worry the sweep vehicle will pick it up. Needless to say his bike went missing and was never seen again. He had the same issue with 94.7 race organisers and his claim against them has also come to nought. They claim no responsibility at all and have walked away from the incident citing indemnity etc. He had to replace his bike himself.

  13. I have a Reeba World Cup, seems like a pretty good fork. I don't really know anything about it or how to set it. I can't fit the Lockout lever on my bars, no more space, so I don't use it, can't say I really miss it.
  14. Very very nice!!
  15. [quote name=whitesox I disagree. I have a CS600 with Power and everything works like a charm. Sure' date=' it's not a SRM or Powertapp, but it works. The setup is easy if done correctly, sure it takes some time, but you only need to do it once. I would not say it's a bitch[/quote] I agree with you, it was not difficult to setup the power meter it works just fine. The Speed sensor also works perfectly from my fork. I have had no issues with the bracket at all. You don't need a Powertap, at that price it is not for us amateurs. The Polar power meter is perfect for power training, all you need is a measure of power, even if it is not accurate just as long as it is consistant, which the Polar is.
  16. You can buy a service kit for Crank Broths pedals, this has the all orings seals etc to service to pedals.
  17. I have one and it is great. I got the power meter for it too and this is the best part. Without the power meter the Polar 625x I have is just as good.
  18. Bacroban will do the trick, it is geasy so will stop the burning.
  19. The damage control has started.
  20. "Insurance"is the oldest money making racket in the book. You always lose with insurance.
  21. Darker one is better. Nice Raleigh by the way.
  22. This Argus diet is killing me, getting tired of just plain Salty Crax and no spread for lunch. I just klapped a chocolate bar from Valentines day that has been hanging around, and can smell the guilt in the air. Will I be glad when I can eat normally again.
  23. I bought a new bike from FPC Paulshof and for the first service sent it in and it came back with the gears all missing their mark when shifting, worse than it was before, 2 days before I did the Duzi Mfula. I was disturbed by this so I just fixed it myself and decided I would never send any bike to get serviced there again. After supporting FPC Paulshof by riding their MTB rides on Saturdays and buying spares etc there, the guys know me and would be a pleasure going there just to see what new stuff was around. I go there a few weeks back and ask one of the guys to see if they could replace a spoke for me and true my wheel, the guy behind the counter says can only do it in a few days. So I challenged him on this saying it would only take a few minutes to do so surely they could help me out. He just gives me this arrogant look that really said "I don't have time for this", so I say "Shall I just go somewhere else?" and he does not answer me so I get hacked off and suggest that he is too arrogant and must not give me his "Attitude". So he then ignores me, and I ask him OK forget about truing the wheel, just get me a replacement spoke. The guy just ignores me, so I say "What are you deaf now?" so he says, no I don't want to give you any of that "Attitude". He then completely ignores me. Man I could have........&*^$%. So I ask one of the other lighties and he runs off and gets me the correct spoke and helps me no problem. Service with a smile. I have decided not to go back to FPC Paulshof as I don't need cr@p like this. From now on I service my bike myself, at least I know that the job is done and it costs me a lot less to do. The other thing is I noticed the prices have like doubled since last year a Thomson stem was R798 is now like R1500, WTF! The dollar has not doubled in the last 6 months. So, sorry Fritz, you guys have blown it for me.
  24. Thanks guys for your replies. Very informative.
