  1. I did a club MTB ride a few weeks ago and one of the guys taco'ed their front wheel, we bent it back as best we could and it rode well. Got me thinking, can you repair this rim or do you have to get a new hoop and rebuild the wheel?
  2. 8 second sprints on your trainer in 53x16 - 8 second sprint /52 second rest x 5 x 3 minute rest x 8 second sprint /52 second rest x 5 x 3 min rest x 8 second sprint /52 second rest x 5 x 3 min rest. You get the picture. I have a great workout that builds power without killing your legs for the week: 40 second at your threshold power / 20 second rest x 5 x 3 min rest, repeat till tired. I do 3 or 4 of these in one session and it builds power very quickly and you can still walk the next day. Do this with the above once a week and see the benefits in a matter of 2 weeks, seriously.
  3. Yea, I guess. If you got an Sram chain then get an Sram chain link, the Gold one.
  4. I couldn't agree with you more. We seem to want to emigrate when the going gets tough, what happened to standing up for ones rights and lobbying politicians to get things changed. People feel that they are politically helpless, but that is rubbish. Look at what Cope has done, they have changed the political landscape in SA by standing up for what they believe in.
  5. Yeah, put the chain on the large chain ring and the largest cog on the back, without going through the derailleur. Just ignore the drailleur for now. Measure this and mark the chain, then add 2 full links and break the chain at that point. Remember to use a gold chain link, it makes life easier to take the chain off to clean. 6. I wouldn't spend money upgrading the components of that bike. Just ride it and when you feel it doesn't fit the bill anymore upgrade the whole bike for something more current. It probably weighs a ton and that would be the main reason to upgrade.
  7. I bought a KCNC BB and needed to find the torque specs for it, I searched the web and could find none, called the shop I bought it from nothing, then called the KCNC agents and a very friendly and helpful rep called me, he did not have the info at hand (he was out on the road). He called me back about an hour later and gave me all the info I needed. He spoke to a few mechanics he has contacts with and emailed me a manual for the BB, and gave me the BB torque specs specifically for my frame. I thought that was quite awesome service I would never have got from any LBS.
  8. Verry verry nice! Happy riding!
  9. I agree with you, I felt this route was too flat and fast, a few climbs would sort that out, and help to break up those huge bunches. I mean 94.7 this year was really easy compared to the old route.
  10. Yeah, it is a common problem. Get yourself some soft bar tape and some Specialized gloves, the had a Body Geometry design that alleviates pressure on the Ulnar nerve in the hand. From their website: Nearly 50% of cyclists suffer from hand numbness while riding, which can throw a wrench in the longevity and enjoyment of your ride. Since the culprit behind tingly hands is compression of the ulnar nerve (also responsible for that shooting sensation when knocking your funny bone), the trick is putting some cushion between the heel of your palm and the bars. http://www.specialized.com/bc/SBCEqSection.jsp?sid=EquipGlovesRoad&eid=1366
  11. There was someone there @ CL yesterday when I went there at 11:45. They sorted me out chop chop. HammerHed2009-02-06 05:36:12
  12. Do a search on the Hub for cramps / cramping this has been discussed plenty. IMO cramping is because of muscle fatigue, you are riding above the level at which you train in a race and this causes muscle fatigue and then cramping. Bike setup is also crucial, I would go to a reputable setup guy and get it done properly, this will alleviate that from the equation and then you can work at finding the cause if you have ticked this one off the list. Money well sent.
  13. The Phenom SL is amazing, it looks very slim and hard but it is very comfortable. I did buy it in August so it was R200 bucks cheaper then.
  14. Go to a Specialized dealer and ask them to fit you, they use an "Assometer" to determine which saddle is best for your size bum bones. Seriously!
  15. Awesome!!!
  16. I don't enter races for a goodies bag, I enter races to have an organised and competitive ride that gets timed so I can improve my cycling by coming back the next year and doing a better time. Did it deliver that for me? Hell yes. Will I be back? Hell yes! Don't want photos, goodies bag or any of that. That is all just unnecessary marketing clutter anyway.
  17. True but sub 3 becomes infinitely more difficult.
  18. Depends which road you enter Boyes Drive from there are 2 entrances t get on Boyes Drive, the onee has a short sharp turn and switchback from Main Road, can't remember if this is the first or send entrance to Boyes Drive.
  19. The thing with Boyes Drive is that it is a lot slower than Main Road past Muizenburg and Kalk Bay. You have to turn sharp right onto Boyes Drive and climb a switchback or 2 to get onto Boyes proper, do the 3 hills and then when you come off it you have a sharp right hander 90 degrees. This will take some minutes out of a possible sub 3, and could hurt your time. Compared to just going straight past Muizenburg and Kalk Bay on Main road, no climbs and to turns. My guess is Boyes Drive will Add 5 minutes more, at least, if not more.
  20. Hi you Capies I did the Argus the previous 2 years over Chappies. What is Boyes drive like ----heavy climbs ???? more difficult ???? and why do you say that the times is slower over Boyes compared to Chappies. It's not Boyes vs Chappies, it is Boyes + Chappies, 3 more hills that you would not do if the route went the normal way through Muizenburg.
  21. Looks like the results are not complete yet on www.winningtime.co.za.
  22. Stand behind the bike and hold the axle in left and right hands, forefinger and thumbs, and then with your right hands remaining fingers push the derailleur back and the wheel pops out no problem. Very easy. Do the reverse to put it back in.
  23. I want to know why you Okes have all got hair spray lying around, isn't that for tannies with blue rinses?
