  1. There are a few "legends in their own mind", who ride the spruit that would do well reading this.
  2. "War Pigs" what a classic .
  3. Today, I think I will listen to some Guns 'n Roses. Welcome to the Jungle!
  4. Drop them a line. I read somewhere that they welcome people joining them on the patrols.
  5. The Randburg Police Mountain Bike Patrol Unit completed two successful patrols of sections of the Braamfontein Spruit in the past week, in an effort to improve safety for users of the popular urban riverside trail in Johannesburg?s northern suburbs. Following a spate of recent incidents where mountain bikers have been attacked and robbed of their bicycles and other equipment while using ?The Spruit?, as the trail is commonly known, the Randburg Police have mobilised their mountain bike unit, under the command of Inspectors Hein Van Heerden and James Swann. On Wednesday 22 October they did an exploratory afternoon patrol on The Spruit between Peter Place and the N1. Numerous individuals were questioned and searched and no arrests were made. Then on Saturday 25 October a dawn patrol of the land adjacent to Main Road, Sloan Street and the N1, followed by a patrol on The Spruit from 12th Avenue to Jan Smuts Avenue resulted in 13 arrests. ?Most of the arrests were illegal immigrants,? explained Inspector van Heerden. ?One guy we arrested was a suspect in an attempted armed robbery of a mountain biker we had encountered earlier who described his assailants to us. We need this mountain biker to contact us to give an official statement so that we can open a case.? According to Inspector van Heerden, the patrols were a success and only the beginning of a sustained effort by the unit, which is a pilot project and a result of collaboration between local corporates, residents and the SAPS. ?Yes, a good result and a good start,? said Inspector van Heerden. ?It is very important for mountain bikers, or any users of the Braamfontein Spruit, who are assaulted or robbed to make a statement at either the Randburg Police Station or the Sandton Police Station. Even if it is only an attempted assault or robbery. This helps us build up a database from which to make more specific links and successful arrests.? To report any incidents or to offer any useful information that could lead to improved safety on the Braamfontein Spruit and other public areas, contact Inspectors van Heerden or Swann on 011 4499000 or email info [at] randburgpolice [dot] co [dot] za The Braamfontein Spruit trail runs through Randburg and Sandton and is popular among recreational mountain bikers who have recently been targeted by armed robbers. Inspector James Swann and Inspector Hein van Heerden have achieved early success in their efforts to use the Randburg Police Mountain Bike Patrol Unit to improve safety for users of the Braamfontein Spruit Trail. markStockton2008-10-27 23:55:23
  6. If they had seen and smelt that redish water they would.
  7. No, but does Toyota MTN Cycle Park have cool natural rocky trails like "3 sisters", "the swimming pool", "Wendels Revenge" and "the Japanese Garden / Graveyard". However truth be told, when they finally open my son and I will be sitting at the gate with R 50.00 each clasped in our excited, sweaty paws. markStockton2008-10-27 04:43:22
  8. As a comparison Rietvlei (Alberton) costs are: R 20.00 per single entry R 100.00 for a 10 entry ticket (no expiry) R 750.00 (ish, not sure about this one) for an annual pass. I guess that means with my family it is cheaper to load them in the car and drive them to Rietvlei, rather than cycle 5km up the road!!!
  9. Thanks HR for the cool ride. Pitty about the mud turning my 'dale into an involuntary single speed from just over half way! Still loved the ride. Took most of the afternoon to get the bike clean! I'll definitely be back.
  10. "I don't like Mondays" by either the Boomtown Rats or Cassette.
  11. me to, see you all Sunday.
  12. Meatloaf - Rock n Roll Dreams. A really good Friday song.
  13. Weird... my brake pads are covered by my motorplan.... In fact the only things not covered by my motorplan are tyres and gasoline.... Mine too on the Honda Plan, also wiper blades to my surprise. Also had them replace the discs.
  14. Maybe you should separate the service and brand issues. If I based my opinion of the car I drive (Honda) on the service from the agent (Honda Sandton), I would probably hate the brand. However I moved to another agent (Honda Westrand) and love the car. Infact this is the car I've had the longest and done the most kilo's in. I would certainly consider another. Moral of the story, try another agent because there is nothing wrong with the Suburu brand.
  15. It's OK, I nearly got the "Yellow Bootie" award last night on a group out ride from Rietvlei. Luckily all my crash test dummy experience allowed me to save the day with out biting the dust.
  16. HR, please add another for the ride and breakfast, my son is joining us.
  17. Yes' date=' be careful when you're taking off your numberplates. Sometimes the plastic clip breaks and then you need to buy a new numberplate bracket. Now where did I put my coat... [/quote'] You gonna be in such big trouble when BigH sees that comment.
  18. Way OT, but I was amazed when I logged into payfine.co.za and found nothing to be paid. With all the driving back and fourth to Rietvlei I've been doing I was sure I must have erred and been caught some time. Are you riding tonight, Shaun?
