Interestingly, I think at least a few of the ladies in D with faster times are elities. At the start a couple of the girls were complaining that they did not make the elite group and were placed in D as this is the first seeded group the ladies may enter. Girls were strong - left me for dead turning off the M1.

No doubt true, the exception being those that for what ever reason choose to contest the win. I usually don't care - probabaly becasue I am not in the runnning. But once or twice*, when the planets aligned, I've found myself in a position to sprint for the win in some lowly alphabet group. Then suddenly I care. Go figure OK, once then I admit it

I mean same start time within your group / starting batch. Each starting batch is a race - that is how its set up. You may start in a later "race" but not an earlier one...

then I said it wrong - or you misunderstood... let me try again: Everyone in a group has to have the same start time, otherwise its a time trial, not a race.

If it was mat to mat the race tec results would get the group winning order wrong - every time - guy in lead bunch who starts near the back but finishes 10th will likely be shown as the winner if the other 9 guys in front of him started near the front of the group. Cycling cannot work mat to mat - unless you want to change the rules of cycling...

Nope, I happen to know that the over 30k ENTRIES is genuine. the 5000 or so MTB entries is over and above that. A huge number of people enter but don't start... If you don't believe me ask anyone who wne to registration on Saturday afternoon - thousands of unclaimed envelopes... Also, lots of riders don't wear chips.

Seem to recall Jodie Swallow for one prefers a road bike with clip ons for EL....

haha my mate said he saw something BIG and scaley - thought he was talking ***! I think the buoys on the far side definately drifted towards the bank for whatever reason hence the extra distance. Would have been quicker to exit and portage to the 2nd buoy...

Agree, since we all have to go to registration the day before we may as well check bikes in on Sat PM as well (like at IM) which means an early start is feasible.

Anyone else got a tri-suit sunburn? Eina! I got just over 2km on my garmin for the swim - seemed to take for ever so was glad to see afterwards it was longer than advertised... The run was a little short though, so still ended up at 51.50 km overall... My only gripe was that I got stopped 3 times for traffic to cross on the bike leg. I think the officials didn't have much choice as the taxis were apparently getting really aggressive but the organsiers may have to re-think this route then if they can't manage the traffic situation....
