  1. So essentially its a debate around whether R500 is reasonable or not. i think it is. There are no absolutes here as you suggest.
  2. no because at that point no contract is in place - no transaction concluded. once you pay the money over and accept the T's anc c's nyou have a contract. By the way, the only time the CPA is absolute on suppliers not being able to withol deposit is where cancellation is due to death or illness
  3. Not entirely accurate... CPA allows you to withold deposit or portion of deposit for admin and "reasonable penalty" costs as a result of the cancellation. Clearly with all this back and forth JB incurred real costs (his time) not to mention opportunity costs, and with the cost of the deposit clearly spelt out in T's&c's no reason to suggest its not reasonable.
  4. I agree with this. And all the quoting of CPA is getting tiresome. CPA is intended to protect consumers not screw over businesses. CPA recognises need for reasonable non-refundable deposits.
  5. Just for the record, I never justified his doping... or the rest of the pelatons.

Ja if you can't give yourself at least 4 days then rather make it the day before... there is a lag of a day or 2 before you start to feel the effects while your body tries to adjust.
  7. same here.. Think I might just accept reality from the start this time and start in B.... Unless the first 30km is downhill!?
  8. thanks... nada just yet...
  9. Can't find anything... who are the emails sent from?
  10. Eddy that is rough and I am sorry to hear about your family. Your experience is however different to mine. In my case LA's approach to fighting the disease has had a very direct impact on 2 people close to me. Whatever the rights and wrongs of the man - that is a fact that no one on this forum can argue with. I will add with certainty that i am not alone. For another (US centric) example have a look at this link which I posted on the other LA thread. its simply wrong to say that Livestrong does no good and is purely for LA's personal gain. http://howsbrian.com/2012/08/how-lance-and-livestrong-totally-screwed-me/
  11. Who were his big rivals of the day? Were they "less" doped up than him?
  12. Huh... Where did I say that...? .
  13. I decided a couple of years ago that the cost of travelling (without the family) for a self indulgent weekend couldn't really be justified. That said I currently still consider the Argus a must-do. So to fix the condundrem I make sure that the trip is essentially free except for the entry fee and possibly bike transport... To explain, I entered and booked travel this past weekend as follows: - flight on Kulula - 35% discount thanks to vitality and balance paid with discovery miles - accommodation @ southern sun - 50% vitality discount balance paid with discovery miles - car rental - will be paid with ebucks or discovery miles (wasn't able to book when I tried - I think its too far in advance...) Do it like that and its the best R300 you'll ever spend.
  14. I don't know, but my question remains, have other sanctioned athletes (from baseall players testing positive for steroids to the grand chess master who was banned for 2 years for refusing to take a drug test) been prevented from doing fun runs during the period their sanctions were effective?
  15. taking it to the extreme there. its the hypocrasy. Anyone know if the same ridgid approach has been taken on other athletes? When did Jan Ulrich compete in the Argus? My point is don't keep saying there has been no witch hunt etc and continue to treat the man differently to all others past and present. Contador is hailed as a hero yet was convicted of doping and has shown no remourse - still claiming his 7 grand tours just as armstrong claims his 7 tours. how is it different?
  16. He was not planning to race for the prize money. So what does it achieve? - oh ja it achieves a "screw you and your foundation* Lance". Convicted rapists and child molestors are not barred from participating in what is a mass participation event, but Lance Armstong running for his foundation - perish the thought. As I said, childish. *of couse livestrong is in existence solely for Lance's vanity / to sifon off money bla bla bla, right?
  17. Problem is 81% of all of us in SA think we excellent drivers. Our accident stats however tell a different story. Its like the guy in the video who moans about the "boers not knowing how to drive". i thought that was really funny - as I'm sure that the "boer" may well have at that moment been saying "those blerry _______ (chose your slur) don't know how to drive". We all think everyone else is the problem. edit - link for that statistic http://www.wheels24.co.za/News/General_News/Young-SA-drivers-say-theyre-best-20120801

  19. Yea I think hE's won a lot of fans in Spain as well with his courage and his class shown in defeat. Last year they were shouting "we'll kill you if you win" when he was batlting with Cobo, this year they are cheering him up the climbs and some even giving him a push.
  20. I think they are 2 separate issues - not messy as such. To me the fact that he may or may not be an ass, or that he like most pro cyclists in the era almost certainly doped, does not detract from the good he has done (self serving or not). The funny thing to me though is the same guys crucifying Armstrong for doping are very happy to accept Contador back as a hero and role model even though he (like Armstrong) has never come clean about his own doping - and yet he (also like Armstrong) sustained physiologically impossible wattages in his earlier tours. Anyway all this is way Personally I thought what 'Berto did was fantastic to see - and what a GT this has been!.
  21. All strength to you - and like that guy said - fight like hell!
  22. The direct programs are I think very US centric which is understandable given that their health system leave many people with cancer without treatment if they don't have the right medical plan. How is your health now Dirtbreath?
  23. Didn't see that coming!
  24. every cycling interview they have done has been the same - cringeworthy. Thinking specifically of their interview with Burry after the Olympics and Phil Liggett.
