  1. Let's see what the hubbers have to say? Pom12009-10-11 12:15:08
  2. She was driving a honde nai turning into an estate in the middel of a pack of riders.
  3. My wife got knocked of her bike twice this week, once by an angry female in the suburbs and today riding the Dome by a dumb blond, i'm thankful my wife survived the week! Next weeks training is definately off road.
  4. if your targetting this spefic race and you got about 7 weeks, I suggest log-on to the Polar website and get a 6 week TP and stick to it. 7 hour ride the week before? I would rather think this week should be spent increasing your V02 max.
  5. I did not... but whilst riding thru Dordrecht I bought one and cut it to size fitted it so that it supported the saddle just enough to provide comfort and last until Hofmeyr.
  6. I have enjoyed the 2 tests immensly, the last test showed true grit from the Boks, well done to them they played well, it was just a pity that it has killed the rubber, if only the 1st test would have been 5mins longer. if if if! I am also glad the Brazilians won last night can you imagine what would happen to football if the yanks won the World Cup?
  7. I had the same happen to my Gobi, take it back to the bike shop and ask them to contact the Fi'zi'k rep on your behalf, if it has not been abused they normally change it. However, after 2 years that one broke in the exact same place while I was touring part of the Freedom trail, I had to cut a tennis ball up and wedge it between the seat and rails to last the trip, that seat they did not replace "it was long past it's warranty period" But I love the saddles.
  8. My riding partner and I know this area very well, spending many hours training in the area, have you any new routes? Cannot join you tonite I'm down with a bug, but will join you in the future weeks, perhaps you can show us some new routes
  9. The Creamy Tart served up another fantastic portion of racing and hospitality, it was to be my second, but a dreaded head & throat infection hit me for six 2 days before. Though it gave me a great opportunity to support my wife and many other riders on the day. Any how On the 3rd stage just before Sand River I was standing beneath a tree cheering those that went past, along came rider VA312 and without a care in the world threw his empty blue Valpre bottle into the ditch! I whistled at him but he chose to ignore me or maybe he did not hear me, whatever, do we as cyclist really accept this sought of behaviour? I think it is time to name and shame them! what do you think Mr. Saldanha ?
  10. can't wait
  11. I've done about 1700km with my KCNC not too worried about the bling but the ceramic bearings are great, the maintenance on them is far less then the Std XT / XTR a normal clean with a brush a hose always ensures a smooth spinning whilst on the Shimano's you need to dismantle and clean thoroughly every once in a while. The KCNC wear on the teeth seem far better, however, I think this does depend upon the terrain and Lube you use.
  12. I quite enjoy the race, the first half being a sprint with a few tech. bits to spread the field. then the BIG climb, where there's one stretch (50m) on the 2nd Blip that is very difficult, line & rythmn are important, I had to hike a bike 1/2 way up this bit. The Prizes are excellent, where did they get that MC from? I have 2 issues though: the guy who finished 1st in the 80km Masters Cat. gave his entry away (we think, he is seeded 43!) he was not at P.giving! assuming this the snot head who took his number did not tell the Organisers and therefore, prevented the real winner from collecting a great prize! The 2nd Gripe was that the timekeeper failed to record my wife's finish, she came in with 3 others which confused the tanny with the gun! 1073m ascent makes this an average MTB race but in general the vibe etc. makes you wanna go back.
  13. Squirt, is a lube, just like all other lubes. They have a great marketing platform though and it's a local company. Thats fantastic and asrong selling point in my book. It is NOT a superior lube however. Well, to me the ultimate test was last years Freedom Trail, one of the coldest and wettest ever, the event was sponsored by Squirt, it did not last forever in those conditions, what lube would, but ask the FT RASA guys that used it...
  14. Teeth do break. Case-hardened steel plates of 9-speed thickness are not very strong laterally. Had you had an XT cassette on when that happed, it would also have broken, the steel being exactly the same on both. I agree that fancier chains don't rust.....on their sideplates. These are chromed and resist rust more than naked steel chains. However, sideplate rust is cosmetic and doesn't affect the chain at all. Where it matters, in the swivelling interfaces, both will rust equally quickly. You'll find that light or heavy people who have developed a good shifting technique will seldom break a chain. I can however foresee that a strong, heavy rider will break a chain easier when doing a poor shift than a bantamweight. But JB the XTR Big Cogs down to 21 are made of titanium, not steel? your comment confuses me... The XTR chain is Zinc Alloy plated both inner and outer, the XT is plated only outer, they both weigh the same, but I stand by my comment lube after every ride, preferably with Squirt (i.e. do not clean with detergent, just wipe with a clean rag and Lube) I use a Rapid rise, I am not too sure wheter this puts less or more Shear Stress on the chain than a conventional Derailleur??
  15. I have used 2 XTR cassettes and broke a few teeth of one cog, since that incident (Monster 2007) I have used XT cassettes and never had a problem (I average about 200km a week off road) The XTR chain does not rust (great) I lube my chains after every ride (Squirt) I use the SRAM or the XT/Ultegra (HG93) with a SRAM powerlink, todate I have not broken a chain (But I'm only 73kg), perhaps the bigger MTB'ers would like to comment...
  16. I agree with you PPWTF , I just have not got the time to work out a TP with etc, etc...
  17. The entry package is R500, however, i was concerned about using any coach wanting one with a decent Qualification (I think there are only 3 qualified Level 3 coach's in the country?) coupled with the experience of riding at a decent level.
  18. I thought the Polar program was quite easy to use... OK though if you are having a problem why not log on to the Polar website where you can get a ready made program, however, you will be required to upload your training data via weblink (this is software that you need to download from the Polar WS)
  19. I have been with a training coach now for 18 months, prior to this I used the Polar program. The Results I am very happy todate. I pay R900p.m. for the service for which I am very happy. Since I have never enquired with any other coach, how does this rate with the market? I am able to download & upload my weekly training plan & training files from / to a website Every 3 weeks I have a Functional test. I am not after another coach, but it would be interesting to see what the market has to offer!
  20. I have a Thule 970 it is OK but the rubbers become worn & loose and it is difficult to fit 2 bikes on without having to protect them with a noodle. I suggest the Thule G5 909 (3 bike mount) i have one of these now and it has done many km's offroad. It is easy to mount and tilts with ease for tailgate access. The cost may however, be prohibitive?
  21. Guys I would really reccomend a tubeless conversion rather than liners etc... Use a good 120tpi tyre Maxxis or Geax with some Stans (not Joes) and you will say goodbye to punctures. I have ridden 3 epic without one puncture running with Stan's and Geax Saguaro's
  22. I had one non cycling claim with outsurance and they got OUT, so I quickly got OUT of their insurance. I am with M&F? todate I have not had to claim thank heavens.
  23. GEAX 2.00 rear TNT, Saguaro & 2.20 Frt for a puncture free Epic ride x 3!

Hi Carinus are you out there? maybe your planning your Freedom Trail 2009 route? whatever, you need to conduct some serious damage control for your customers, I think start on the communication side.
