  1. I have never seen or heard of what you are describing. If you want a 3rd bottle you are going to have to stick it in your jersey pocket or in one of those rear mounted bottle carriers that fit behind your seat although I am not sure if you'll be allowed to use one of those in a road race. I've never seen anyone with one before. I know you said you don't want to do that but it is not difficult, just practise one or twice riding up and down your street and you'll have it down.
  2. get 2 x 750ml bottles. That will give you the same amount of liquid as carrying 3 x 500ml. You really shouldn't need more than that for a 100km road race, unless it is very very hot. I seldom drink more the 750ml on a 3 hour bike ride.
  3. Seeing as you say you are very fit it sounds to me like you're just lacking cycle specific muscular endurance rather thna strength. The only cure for this is to ride more, don't gym, don't run, just ride.
  4. Out of interest how did you reach this conclusion?
  5. There is a UK website - cyclesurgery - selling Assos stuff for 50% off for today only. Hence my question and my need to purchase ASAP without trying on, otherwise I would do as you suggest. I opted for the XXL over XL as everything I have read says size up when buying Assos. According to the sizing guide the only difference between the XXL and the XXXL is that the XXXL are a bit wider. Length is the same. I definately don't need wide. I know people coming to and from the UK all the time so they will bring me the gear. No VAT. No import duty.
  6. Hello, I want to buy some Assos bib shorts off the net. From what I've read their sizes come up pretty small. I am currently torn between the XL and the XXL but can't decide. I am 195cm/87kg. Looking at their sizing chart I beleive I will need the XXL but I don't want to mess this up as the are very expensive. Unfortunately there is no where near by where I can try some on. Anyone of a similar size to me rocking Assos? What size? Thanks
  7. thanks gents.
  8. essentially nothing I guess so if that is what I have to do then I will do it, I am not trying to cheat the system I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something with the licensing thing. i.e. open seeded batches were for unlicensed riders and VA/VB etc were for licensed.
  9. Thanks for the help. I come from a tri back ground so am not new to cycling just to bike racing so I'm not concerned about whether I will be able to hold my own or not, I just want to know how to get there. At the moment I can't be bothered to enter any of the big races because I don't want to start in Z group as I will not enjoy myself. I guess, essentially what I want to know is if there a shortcut to the decent batches, A/VA whatever by becoming licensed or do I just have to suck it up, enter as many races as I can and ride at the back until I am able to "earn" my place at the front?
  10. Hello, I'm new to bike racing and am confused over how the seeding at big races like the Argus, 94.7 and Amashova works? Specifically what you need to do/what makes you a racing vet and allows you to race in VA/VB/VC? Is this done purely on having ridden in seeding events and getting a good time like it is with qualifying for A/B/C etc. or do you need to have a racing license to race in the vets categories? Is this the same as a CSA membership or something different? Thanks

    SL4

it's beautiful but a bike like that deserves better bottle cages. How does it compare to the SL3? I'm still on the 2 :<
  12. I got some as a gift, I beleive they came from Cycle Lab.
  13. Hey thanks man. You guys have thought of everything
  14. Is it just me or does anyone else think it would be nice that if you clicked on a post in the "Lastest Forum Posts" box/window thingy on the left hand side of the page that it actually took you to the latest post in the topic rather than to the first page of the topic? What is the general consensus? Moderators/Admins any chance of sorting this out?
  15. This is potentially controversial and a bit of a hi-jack.... I had a couple of colleagues down from JHB for a meeting the other day (I am in Durban) and while in the car travelling to the meeting we were chatting about cycling and both of them said that they did not feel JHB was any more dangerous of a place to cycle than Durban or Capetown. They said it was the sheer number of cyclists on the roads these days in JHB that accounted for proportionately so many more accidents. It does seem to me that JHB has a much higher number of accidents than anywhere else or at least I hear of more. I very seldom see anything being reported in Durban but most weeks will see something JHB related on this website. So, do we think it is down to more reckless/inconsiderate drivers in JHB or is it purely down to volume or perhaps both? Based on what I read on here I would be very wary about where and how I cycled if I lived in JHB. Heal strong to the injured riders!
  16. apart from breaking numerous rules of bike photography such as valves not at 6-oclock, chain not in the big ring on the front and small ring at the back etc. it looks like a nice ride. I do however hope you can ride it fast as otherwise I think you might look a little silly.
  17. I wish they would spend some of the money they're making from the high price on R and D to make their products taste better. To me it's hands down the worst tasting energy product out there. Particularly the gels...
  18. @Garfield - I just read your post. If you are in so much pain that you are considering taking pain relief before you start I would seriously reconsider doing the race. You might do yourself some proper harm. If you're just being a girl about the whole thing HTFU and get on with it. It's an ironman and it is supposed to hurt.
  19. In 2010 I took a couple of Nurofen about 20km into the run to help get me through. Worked wonders as I was able to continue running whereas had I not taken them I would have almost certainly had to walk the last 20km. This year I had a couple of Panado in my pocket on the run for just in case. Didn't need them though. I would highly recommened making yourself a little medical kit to keep in your pocket on the run cosisting of painkillers, vaseline, plasters and some sachets of salt (for cramp).
  20. Like a water pistol full of pepper spray. Awesome.
  21. Thank you for proving my point. I see you're also KZN based. I look forward to meeting you at an event sometime, if you're as smart, funny and edgy in real life it will be a riot.

So not a PB course then! Definately not shelling out R5000+ to go and do it then. Next year I want a sub 5 HIM and EL is clearly not that place to get that.
  24. I'm with the OP and Pain or Shine on this one. I have never belonged to a forum with the level of aggression that there is on here. There are a lot of people who do seemingly nothing but post one line answers belittling people and just stirring ****. An example of this was that I posted an advert for a cassette the other day and in the description put "rear cassette". Someone actually went to the bother of posting some rude and sarcastic remarks in my advert about and the fact that you don't get front cassettes so why did I describe it as a rear cassette. I mean honestly, the mentality of that! You have got to be pretty sad and pretty bored to be bothered to do a thing like that. Anyhow there are some pretty decent people on here giving some pretty decent advice as well and I think it just has to be a case of ignoring the people you don't like and just getting on with it. I do.
