  1. Thanks, I havent ridden it yet, so setup still needs to happen. Plan to have the bike for a good few years again, and this seems like a good one to have.... although I was very tempted to buy one of these nice (edit - italian) carbon frames flying around lately and build a bike up.brianj2008-06-04 05:25:23
  2. since i sold my 10 year old trek 370 (steel frame) to a colleague desparate to start riding, I have been on the lookout for a nice bike for the road races. Still planning to mostly MTB but will be nice to have a nice ride for 94.7 etc very pleased with what i found...
  3. coming back to this... would it have been the right thing to do if the cop/lead car 'intercepted' the other car? interesting quandary for the driver.
  4. keep it (and the oil stains) off the couch!
  5. I have seen 2 mx bikes on the spruit once, in the section between the NS by the scout hall and Bryanston Drive, but it looked like they were passing thru. This was during the week of the public holidays.
  6. good thing! well done. in my (limited) experience, the soap is the key thing - if the tyre can slip nicely into place without disturbing the liner, the seal will be good.
  7. Have ordered a few times, the only problems i have had was with out of stock items.... vey bad communication from them in this regard. Best stick to in stock items. No problems with thise and they clear customs quickly - all papers in order.
  8. Good stuff, Thanks
  9. I am looking at going to visit a professional as well, but am skeptical. I have picked up a knee 'overuse' injury and there is nothing materially wrong with my knee, so the doctor has recommended a podiatrist. I would like to find someone that specialises in bike setup, preferrably MTB. By professional, I mean someone with a medical type of qualification. Cany anyone recommend anyone (in JHB) ? Sorry for the hijack, but i think its the same question (maybe)?
  10. cant comment on their service.. but I thought it was a bit itrresponsible of the sole agents to run out of yeti derailieur hangers before the sani2c (or at any time, actually)
  11. topeak mini morph - best for mtb with tubeless conversion. no reason why it should be good for road too.
  12. cant see what has been removed? only parts added in town....
  13. was using shimano, never had a problem except that they dont like dried mud and small stones... then I broke part of the clip off in a fall. now am using crank bros candys (egg beater with platform)... I hope I dont have the same issue with the sidi shoes, but am very happy so far. the release action is more natural - just my opinion.
  14. Looking through the results, there are results for only about 400 teams in the adventure and about 450 teams in the race. I thought about 550 teams started each race... Did that many people bale? Or is there another reason?

    Yeti

and thats if they answer their phone or you can find the new shop. good luck!
  16. good article, thanks!
  17. I would be interested to see what the load distribution would be between front and back wheels.... 30kg is brobably not that far off for a 75kg rider / bike combo on level surface. I dont think the test is practical either, but at least there is some attempt being made at quantifying this.
  18. Thanks for all the replies, they have helped firm up my thinking... Incidentallly i did research the issue a bit, there are 2 measures out there: - measuring the 'run out' distance a tyre will run with a consistent rolling start (consistent surface and pressure) - measuring the drag force with fixed load and standardised pressure (this is probably more scientific) The results of such a test look like this one I found. It looks like there is up to 15% variation in the drag force apart from the one outlier. The pic is reference so the work can be googled for more info..
  19. the decision is already made - crossmarks - but thanks for the opinions / options..... I will be doing my 'anti rain dance'. back to the question, is there a measure of resistance?
  20. hey all, going to change tyres before Sani... the bike came with maxxis Minion DH tyres, and they have definitely made the training tougher. Going for a Crossmax which should be easier going across most (reasonable) terrain. Is there a standard measure of rolling resistance? i.e. should i expect things to get 1% better or 5% better? here's hoping....
