  1. I'm a big believer in the free market principle. If you like it an want it and the price is right - you'll buy it. If none of those criteria are met then you won't buy it. What the classifieds doesn't need is emotion. All this oh he took too long to respond, oh he changed the price, oh he has been online and read my message and not responded, oh he changed the tyres and price drama is unnecessary. This isn't Days of our Lives. You want it buy it. You don't want it don't buy it.
  2. Will do. So far stiffer rear end than the Madone but softer front (and overall). Mostly thanks to the super wide but quite shallow down tube methinks. I also went tubeless. It arrived with tubeless valves installed and tyres already seated. I added 40ml of liquid and used a floor to pump to inflate. Super easy. Overall I was super impressed by Giant's out the box readiness. Lots of little added extras. Damn fine price tag for an Ultegra Di2, carbon wheeled, Advanced Pro framed bike too.
  3. Out with the Madone and in with the new 2021 Giant TCR.....
  4. You may have all my likes for the day! Post of the week!
  5. Is that anti cyclist anti caravan anti anything that will get my ratings up Clarkson on a South African made bicycle in a pub? Awesome!
  6. That about sums it up. Human beings have value over here. Great for that inner peace - bad for prices at restaurants, cafes and anything that requires humans :-)
  7. Indeed. People keep asking me to compare and the closest answer is "exactly the opposite to everything in SA". The weather being the worst opposite!
  8. This is what to cool Dads ride over here :-)
  9. I get the feeling the average South African would be horrified to see what Europe considers an "ebike". In cummuterless SA an ebike is a carbon duallie dripping in XTR - over here it's a 20kg steel frame with a powered front hub (shimano STEPS if you're rich).
  10. You're starting to get a little paranoid now....
  11. I guess this one will never be on the mountain! https://www.cyclingnews.com/news/mondrakers-grommy-is-an-electric-balance-mountain-bike/
  12. A niche version of a niche sport - I'm a big fan!
  13. I'm also pretty sure the evergreens planted in concentric rows around the facility are to arrest the blast wave in case of an "uncontrolled energy release".....
  14. Yes it will. If I remember correctly when you go into your training programme on the menu screen before you start your latest FTP score is somewhere near the bottom right. If you change your FTP manually it will also adjust the programme difficulty. You can even adjust the programme live - there are two tiny buttons under the instruction on the top left when you are training - you can use them to make the power a bit easier or harder by adjusting it 1% per click (there are some limits on how much you can adjust it).
  15. You can go and have a look at some of the older bunkers on the current routes. It's pretty interesting - thick doors, angled walls to direct an uncontrolled blast upwards, lighting installed outside the rooms to prevent ignition.
  16. Agreed. If I had to hazard a guess I'd say early gravel bikes mainly used Cyclocross tyres where the max UCI imposed width is 33mm (or 35mm or that is the range - I forget). Once manufacturers realised they could sell enough >35mm they started making them. My feeling is the early limit was due to lack of availability rather than choice.
  17. For those looking into cheapish gravel bikes Cyclingnews just published this: https://www.cyclingnews.com/features/best-budget-gravel-bikes/
  18. I am really enjoying this "new" trend towards gravel bikes and comfort. As a bike fitter I've fought with people for years that comfort can be fast but came up against a brick wall of SLAMMED STEMS ARE BEST AND MAKE ME LOOK FAST :-) The trend towards smaller saddle-stem drops/less aggressive set ups and the corresponding WOW THAT FEELS AWESOME feedback has been great. Long live gravel. Viva viva!
  19. Daaaamn. When did you stop drinking the a Coolaid and start swimming in it?
  20. Ahhh come on Patch - you aint that fat or that old :-)
  21. I reckon it is a reflection of the times. There also used to be a time when okes used to love telling other okes in graphic details the things they'd do to the women in the nearly Lady Pro thread. Tons of lockeroom talk too. That has stopped. Either exactly the same people inhabit the hub and we've matured as we've aged or men as a whole have become a little less bro.
  22. Never! Some things in life just cannot be allowed!
  23. I have really enjoyed watching us hubbers mature. It used to be cool to call anyone gay then it got a little uncomfortable so we made it ghey and thought that was ok. Now we're all mature and realise that it really doesn't matter who anyone shags. Look at us all grown up and stuff.
