  1. Hey .... IDEA!!! Who can convince the relevant authorities to turn Sizwe Infectious Disease grounds into a mtb park?
  2. Excuse me, but if you didn't see her, then you weren't looking. Funny how everyone here treats it as a big joke, but if you were on a bike and she turned in front of you then said 'oops, sorry I didn't see you,' she would be crucified bu everyone. Look and ye shall see!!idrive2008-09-10 06:59:48
  3. In Edenvale, in the Greenstone area we used to have mounted police .... but it seems that their horses bolted a long time ago. That area's not safe anymore!
  4. Thanks, I didn't see that. Why not merge this thread with the other one? idrive2008-09-02 13:13:22
  5. ....... so what's happening. Is he riding yet? I really think some feedback would be nice considering so many of us were willing to help!
  6. I've joined them for the MTB ride a few times and its worthwhile. Nothing like riding through Sizwe grounds in a bunch and not having to worry about safety. ...... but they only do the mtb on Sat!
  7. a simple good value tyre is Maxxis Crossmark ....... but it isn't the best in mud, but how much mud you gonna find in the Cape at Epic time?
  8. The start of a race is the start ........ not when someone decides it suits him/her to start. 100 m starts at the gun .....
  9. On the motorsport side I think its left to various organisations. I know Nicole Capper and Pierre Tostee are involved and do send out releases after events. They do a good job too. Nicole is the wife of Brian Capper who dabbles in mtb every so often and Pierre is also a cyclist, based in Durban. I've never seen anything about karting and maybe mtb works the same way. I'll see what I can find out.idrive2008-08-23 10:21:49
  10. I tried doing a bit of PR a few years ago for Yolande. I din't bother with the usual cycling media, but rather lifestyle mags. This was done as a favour simply because I thought she was getting a raw deal from IMC/Mongoose in terms of exposure. Nobody was interested in using the copy although I do recall a pic being used in a motoring magazine somewhere, but because her name sounds fast. Besides the Super Motards, Mr Price is also involved in karts, sponsoring a couple of KZN based drivers. I'll see them all next weekend and find out who is doing the PR. Unless the kareting guys see cycling as a big threat!!
  11. My point: It's pointless trying to sue whoever erected the see-saw. Yes, it is municipal land, therefore it really is council responsibility, but any legal action could have serious implications for anyone making use of the spruit or any other municipal/council land - even Northern Farm. I grew up in Parkhurst and it was like an extension of my backyard. Yes I do feel for the victim and his family, but we all take risks and once in a while one of us gets hurt .... could be you or me next!
  12. The Citizen also carried the story today .... one of the inside pages. My take, remove illegal structures, then demolish informal settlements as well. I hit an unmarked traffic circle at night in Bedfordview and did R10 000 damage to suspension and wheels, 'Ek kroek jou really' metro council said tough 'look where you are going!' so I didn't bother fighting for it even though there were no street lights, warnings etc
  13. I couldn't care less because I'll be dead and the last time I died I never knew anything about it!
  14. We live in a boomed off area and seeing as though I'm on the outside, me and 4 houses who back onto a piece of veld, we put razor wire up. Two weeks later it was gone!! Now squatter camps will be protected from xenophobiacs (whatever!!) by razor wire.

Boet ....... turn the bliksem fans and aircon off!!
  16. a set of Magura Julie brake pads (for one wheel!) R220.00 or front and rear R440.00 Brakr pads for Nissan Sani are just under R380.00 .... no wonder my wife don't understand why I tell her nuthin!!
  17. Hey, I'm a media contact. I'm on the transport side and could do something to create awareness in the trucking industry. Especially with the 94.7 coming up! I once did a story about the Cape Epic ..... we did talk before, but I changed all my details. PM me
  18. I've suggested it before, but why not have a forum specifically for routes?
  19. Why do entries start so early? I would love to do the Sani2C but as my job revolves around motorsport, I can't plan to do an event until the motorsport calendar has been released.
  20. I grew up in Parkhurst, one house was across the road from the spruit then the other house was three houses away (near Pirates) ...... that was sold for R90k. We used to ide the Spriut 40 years ago. Even ride to Zoo lake through the stormwater drains. One we lauched a raft in a storm and went all the way to William Nicol, but I think only two of about six of us stayed aboard. Fear factor - nah, we stared danger everyday and survived. The best was a foofie slide from a bluegum tree!! Why cant the close of the spruit, make it safe again. In those days houses had their gardens right to the river, no fences, no nothing!!
  21. Well, I live in the east and there's no-ways I'm going to drive 50km to Logwood, N/Farm or even 30km to 4/Ways when I can ride on tar road for 10km then ride on dirt fo 40, 50 70 even 100km. I've given up putting a bike in a car to go cycle!
  22. I buy local and if its not available I go without. I've still got a camera lens floating between JHB & CT .... courier company lost it!!
  23. ....... but that's the whole point. It won't be such a disruption, it could attract more participants as people are on leave. In major centres like CT, DBN, PE, Nelspruit, Sabie etc it could work very well and generate a lot of awareness. I think it should be done so as not to antagonise other road users, but create awareness so anyone seeing it stops dead in their tracks and says, "My goodness, look at those thousands of cyclist!" Imagine 1000 cyclist in Ballito, Camps Bay, Tableview ...... or 5000 cyclist with the roads to themselves in Sandton.
