  1. Petrol's come down so the price of bikes and milk will follow suite!!
  2. Motocross ridets use a 'mousse' ........... bit like a hi-tech perma tube. There are some ball type things inserted into tyres or tubes which help with balancing issues. Now go to sleep!!
  3. what they chargin ..... still the rip-off R50?
  4. Well all the plans are in place, accomodation organised and on top of it I turned down an important awards function because I was going to do the Pilgrims Rest race this weekend. But, without any fanfare or big announcements it has quietly been cancelled. I don't know when the decision to cancell it was made, but to find out at such short notice is just very rude.
  5. I SUPPPORT MY LOCAL SHOP (Finishline Cycles) BECAUSE I GO IN. LOOK AROUND, TOUCH, PICK IT UP AND THEN BUY IT. IF I HAVE A PROBLEM WITH MY BIKE I TAKE IT IN AND THEY FIX IT AS THEY SOLD IT TO ME. I HAVE A GOOD RELATIONSHIP WITH THEM AND DON"T WASTE VALUABLE RIDING TIME SURFING THE WEB IN ORDER TO SAVE A BIT OF MONEY WHICH HELPS LOSE A FRIENDSHIP!!! Yes, I know I was shouting!!!
  6. Stupid childish comments like this can undo all the good work done so far. You'll be surprised how many people see website forum stuff so how about engaging the brain cell before putting finger to keyboard.
  7. Hey, I'm sure an old disused mine would be ideal. There's all those levels and an open cast mine would be better for spectators than the shaft variety ...........
  8. PG Glass?
  9. I did consumption tests on a Toyoto and with 1 bike on a towbar mounted rack it was 8% worse than with nothing. Route was just uinder 150km of highway and done at 05:30 each day. i.e no traffic.
  10. I also do pics (see Citizen on Monday 17th), but I deliver and if I take on a job I make sure I'm able to do it. .... otherwise I starve!! I also don't think the prices are expensive, but the quality of the image concerns me!!
  11. Forget the prices. I tried ordering from their site ....... but just got some stupid error message. I sent an email and the reply I got was that I should phone them " "Please would you contact us so that we can assist you telephonically? We apologise for the inconvenience." I couldn't get through and believe it or not but I got the same treatment after trying to order a pic from the Crater Cruise and I even sent them the thumbnail of the pic I wanted.... I havent bothered phoning them again. As for the prices, a decent camera costs R15k and a lens will set you back the same, then you need a laptop and photo editing programme, flash cards, batteries, chargers and lots of hours to process images (assuming they work in RAW). But I was very surprised to see them doing mugshots at the finish of the 94.7 and not using fill in flash despite it being midday ... There's 3 pics I want in total 1 from C/Cruise and 2 from 92.7 both in digital format which could be emailed so there's no postage or print cost involved but seems like they don't want my money.
  12. Lets hope the Courts do their bit ....
  13. FACT: It is illegal to ride two abreast (or 3,4,5 or 6) so the argument about taking up as much space as a truck is stupid. I agree about a protest ride ........ all motorists should meet at Arlington and it will start from there, at least 300 cars and bakkies!!!
  14. A first aider is exactly that. Trained to give 'first aid'. Sure he/she checked pulse or something, but what if it was within parameters layed down or 'within spec' as us mechanically minded folk would say? There were over 300 medics ranging from ALS, ILS and BAA on that event with 27 or so ambulances and response cars from Netcare and MMC. On top of that there were over 100 physio/massage people I'd say that's enough .... These medics cannot force someone to stop...... only we can decide whether or not to continue.
  15. I have shortness of breath whenever I ride a hill and how can you blame 'first aider' for allowing him to continue. Surely if he felt unwell he should've stopped! Sorry, if it's short and blunt, but please get the full, and accurate, story before you post.
  16. My time was about 15 min slower than when I looked at my clock when I crossed the finish line and stopped with beeeeeg cramp. Someone told me to keep moving, but I couldn't...... only later did I discover the finish wasn't really the finish and I'm really very annoyed with that because it is SHABBY, WRONG and DECEITFUL. I mean they could have had the mat before the finish if they couldn't have them under the gantry because of the magnetic field stuff or whatever GGGGRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!
  17. In this day and age of electronic communication I really don't see the need for any number collection. For ALL races why can't we buy a number board from CSA and use it for mtb or road. It can be mounted on the frame of a bike like the big roadies or on the bars like mtb. Then have someone scanning it at an entrance to starting pens to check if you've paid an entry fee. If you havent paid an entry confiscate the board. My sister in law eventually collected my numbers for me as I was away, but she said 'twas a huge mission getting there. WHAT PURPOSE DOES A NUMBER COLLECTION SERVE?
  18. I only get back from CT on Sat night so I'm just going to arrive at the start with a printed number thing they sent me, my timing chip and then ride. Why on earth do we have to waste time with number collection ...... huh???
  19. Two things: 1) If my wife cycled and watched her R4000 device bounce into the grass without stopping to pick it up I'd deduct it from the divorce settlement. 2) If I was following her (your wife) and she didn't bother looking for it then I would have a Garmin. Sorry bud, but if you can't be bothered to pick it up why bother asking ....idrive2008-11-10 06:48:51
  20. I'm amazed this got no mileage .............. Trek have announced that New Zealander Justin Leov and South African Andrew Neethling will head their new downhill team. A third, female, rider is expected to be revealed on 1 December. They will ride the new Trek Session 88 DH. Leov had a successful 2008 season and finished sixth at the World Championships - the best ever performance by a New Zealand man. Neethling finished in sixth place at this year?s Canberra World Cup round and in the top 10 on the technical Schladming course in Austria. Team director Martin Whiteley said: "With the first round of the World Cup in South Africa next year, we are thrilled to have a super-competitive South African on the team.
  21. Mistakes do happen .... we've all made some during our life. Bottom line is that he didn't stop but at least he did show genuine concern etc unlike the f#&kwits who couldn't care less whether a driver, cyclist, rider is dead or alive. However, if he was over the limit, on a cellphone or lighting a cigarrette then I have no sympathyidrive2008-11-02 02:29:17
  22. Johannesburg stretches almost 100 kilometres east-west from Randfontein to Nigel, and some 60 kilometres north-south from Midrand to Orange Farm. The contiguous built-up urban area is listed as being 1,300km? (502 mi?) in land size, which is by far the largest city in Africa so whereabouts in this sprawl are you based? idrive2008-10-20 16:02:06
  23. My biggest gripe is that cyclists want the rights of pedestrians i.e proceed through red robots etc, yet want to be respected as fully fledged road vehicles. Rules are simple and the main rule governing all our traffic laws is 'keep left'! ...... and this is perhaps most applicable to cyclists: Hindering or obstructing traffic on public road 319. (1) No person shall willfully or unnecessarily prevent, hinder or interrupt the free and proper passage of traffic on a public road. (2) Subject to the provisions of the Act or any other law, no person shall place or abandon or cause to be placed or abandoned on a public road any object that may endanger or cause damage to traffic on such road. idrive2008-10-20 06:37:26
  24. ........... buy local?
  25. Remember Haeseman, Hiscock et-al crashing at Rifle and setting fire to the veld causing huge problems?
