  1. Yup .......... and my friend who had one ear bitten off by a piecost, held a piece of plastic over the hole in the floor for the entire flight!
  2. What about organising a series of 'cycling awareness' rides in all major centres during December. Cape Town one weekend, Durban the next and so on or all on the same weekend. It gives plenty of time to organise without emotion and it could get a huge amount of publicity.
  3. see this ........ http://www.bikeradar.com/mtb/news/article/new-york-policeman-filmed-attacking-cyclist-17822
  4. Totally irrelevant if you ask me. Are they tested in Saffrika or on the mushy surfaces of 'Mud Island'?
  5. Looks like he's the mane oke .........

    2009 Raleigh

What a pargetic bunch the average South African cyclist has turned out to be. In 14 pages there is so much stupidity its scary to think these twits are sometimes in the same bunch as me. I guarantee most of you wouldn't be able to tell what bike you're riding if it was devoid of branding and furthermore, you wouldn't feel a difference between a top end frame and an entry level frame if they had the same groupset and were set up the same. Get a life ....... oh dear, heaven help us if this is your life!
  7. is there anything on at HNP this weekend? or any local (Gauteng) mtb race this weekend?
  8. I have to agree ..... mine behaved like a 'cuckoo clock' but Ziggy Stardust sorted it!
  9. I bought a road bike from Great White, deal done with no fuss. Cash handed over & bike collected ....... but I still dunno why I bought a roadbike!! I'm pretty sure 99% of people here are honest (like you and me) and there will always be someone who knows him/her.
  10. Results might not be important to a lot of people, but then why enter a race. Save the money and simply ride your favourite route. Being competitive by nature and the fact that I'm chasing personal goals, I only enter events that have proper timing. This race was advertised as having Winning Time as the official timekeepers so I made the effort of wearing my chip. With an electronic chip results are captured each time a signal is received over the mat. With a manual timing it relies on someone capturing data and perhaps explains the gap between myself and a mate who sprinted up the hill and crossed the line almost side by side .... he beat me! Either way, the results are captured and should be available almost immediately. Another gripe is that the results don't have positions ...... so did I finish in the top third of the field or not? Very shoddy end to an otherwise awesome event.
  11. Here's my gripe. A race isn't a race unless there are results. In this day and age of electronic communication methods surely it is possible, without much effort of publishing results almost as soon as competitors have crossed the line. The Medscheme Walkerville race charged us an entry which was made up by taking into account and costs of various suppliers like medical and timing. So why, over 24 hours later aren't they able to publish a set of results .... not even on the winning time website? Anyone know an email address for Medscheme's marketing director?
  12. I thought you weren't allowed outside assistance in MTBking.....
  13. Sell the story to Steven Spielberg .........
  14. er............ why not try Pro-Bike ditrect
  15. Sat morning would suit me for Hillcrest as I have to be at Idube in the afternoon ..... where do you meet or where do you ride?
  16. Thanks linnega ..... I googled it and I reckon I'll spend Friday there. I thought it was a lil old quarry.
  17. I'm off to Durban and have got all day Friday to go riding and a few hours on Sat morning. Looking for something simple between Hillcrest & Lion Park area ..... I don'ytknow Giga Gorge and don't really like lap type routes.
  18. I agree, but in Neotel rider's defence: Why did he skip the robot? Maybe he was already committed, maybe the synchronisation or settings on the traffic lights were out, maybe he heard a big truck behind him and thought he'd get flattened in he stopped suddenly ..... could've been many other reasons? Maybe he didn't wave because he needed all his hands on the bars. Good on you for looking before you pulled off ..... I wish more people were like you.
  19. Thanks Madmarc I used to ride at Sizwe but got chased by a couple of hobos at the bridge under the N3 then almost got mugged at Greenstone. I ride on my own as I'm usually busy at weekends. This weekend I'll be in Durban but I'll try join you on 5 july .... I can see Karaglen from my kitchen and remember O'Hagans well!!
  20. I'm in Edenvale and am getting tired of riding around the flat miele fields near Pomona, Bredell and Bapsfontein. Why not start compiling a list of MTB routes for us East Rand people. I ride a lot from Finish Line Cycles, often towrds PTA round the back of the Engen 1-stop on the R21 or out to Petit/Bapsfontein. Sometimes out near Fly-Inn. Nice 50-60km route if you want and its easy to get to from Crystal Park area.
  21. Wanted to do Sabie Exp ..... but got no friends
